**Baddass' Ultimate TFT FAQ and Reviews! (20" and Above Models)**

no it wouldnt be the same, you would be converting between analogue and digital and thats just what the straight VGA to VGA connection does anyway,

if anything it would make it worse as theres even more conversions being thrown in!!

just get a DVI-D cable, can be had for about £15

a 19inch panel using a IPS or VA type panel would prob be the best as they tend to offer superior colour repro and viewing angles, when compared to TN film panels. most of the decent 17inch panels will use TN, but once you get to 19inch u will see the other panels used. they arent as good for gaming, but for colours they are better

working on a 19inch TFT guide as we speak, so if you wait a couple of days it will be up online, to help u decide which one to get and to tell u a bit more about the diff panels used :)

Prime, tbh i havent heard of the Sharp panel and personally i would be inclined to leave it alone and go for one of the many excellent and now very affordable models covered in the sticky, inc LG1710B and Q17+

backslang.......sorry for the delay in it. Ive been working on it all last week or so, shoudl hopefully have the last bits tidied up 2moro and will make sure the Sharp and Viewsonic u mention are at least up and covered by then if i can :) hard to find much info on the Sharp tbh tho, as not many ppl on here have it (if any!), might be a good bargain at that price tho, ill post the new info asap :)

EDIT: Ok ive emailed u with the info so far :D more info and full guide will be posted soon, almost finished it all!

EDIT EDIT!!: well i did email to one in your trust, but it bounced. email me in my sig and ill send u the info again!

have u noticed that THG is the only place which raves on and on about the Hydis 20ms panel? and i think most ppl will tell you that they arent always the most impartial place on the web ;) ignore them, they make a good general point, that quoted times dont matter much, its just a guideline of panel tehcnology......at least you know a 12ms panel is generally going to be up to date

the Sammy 172X is a fantastic TFT if u can find it, as im sure anyone who owns one will tell you. as i've said before, for real use, i doubt very much you could tell any difference in preformance between the 20ms Hydis (not even used anyway), the 16ms AU and the 12ms Sammy panel . Maybe in some tests they might show different, but in real use, inc for games, i doubt you could really tell. if the 12ms panel is so bad then why have manufacturs like Hyundai taken it on to use in the Q17 and the L70S?!?! its a great panel, and so is the 16ms AU. If you're worried, try and see a TFT in action, thats really the only SURE way you could tell if it is going to be suitable for your needs

why o why did they produce the 17" version without dvi output

ps does the DVI really make that much difference?

no not on that model at all really..........check the comments on the front page of this thread :) fantastic TFT. DVI doesnt make much of a difference if any on a lot of models, and this one has a superb VGA connection.....def worth considering it imo

Panel wise they are going to be very similar in performance

BenQ uses the 12ms AU panel, Samsung 172X uses the Sammy 12ms panel. The 172X has DVI and is a lovely looking model. personally i woudl go with the 172X as its very nice.......

have a read of this review, i reckon it is prob the 12ms panel as used in the Samsung 172X, havent heard of a Sammy 15ms panel tbh, they have a 16ms made panel. Either way it will be nice anyway :)

welcome to OcUK :)

personally i would go with either the LG1710B or the Q17+ out of that list. Proven to be excellent monitors and well established as two of the best u can get. out of those 2 tho, its a very tough choice. you should have no problems at all with those 2

i would personally stay clear of the Samsung 710T and the Sharp, but im sure they are great too.....just not as great as the Q17 or the LG

i wouldnt bother waiting for the 8ms panels tbh, they will prob be a bit more expensive and the panels around atm are fine anyway in terms of performance.

Its nice to find a friendy forum when it comes to tech stuff, been on a few where the peeps are so anal and not very friendly :(

no problems. this is the best forum in the world. ppl are always helpful and friendly. any more questions, just ask

17inch TFT's are exactly that, 17inch viewable. a 19inch CRT however will have anything from about 17-18 inches viewable.......

not sure on a release date but should be soon. info on it here

will be added to the front page of this sticky once some users on OcUK have it and have made their opinions on it.

ive just added the L70S+ to the front page as it seems a popular one at the moment, anyone want any other popular ones added too?

what you're experiencing is common on a lot of TFT's. Its leakage form the backlight which occurs around the edges of the screen as you explain. some TFt's its worse than others. If it is really bad on your Q17, then perhaps return it, esp if it is worse than on your Dell 17inch TFT.

tbh out of those 4, i like the Lg1920P, but it migth be worth either spending a little more and getting the Viewsonic VX910, or even better, the VX912.

if u dont wanna stretch, then perhaps just consider one of the better 17inch models around, for the same price as a low end 19inch, u could get a high end 17inch (and have the same resolution, and better performance!)

ok can someone reccomend a decent screen for around 200. Thanks. i don't know how to diferenteate between models really

Hyundai ImageQuest L70S+ is by far your best bet imo. see the first page of this thread for info on it, but it's about £217 with VAT from OcUK

read the first page of the thread! there's loads of info on the LG1720B there. but to summarise, they are as good as any 17inch TFT around at the mo really for games and for DVD's./ uses the 16ms AU panel as does a lot of other TFT's

no, again, read the front page of this thread. this is covered in there and from ppl's experiences, the 1720B is a fantastic monitor with a great VGA connection

the 1730B i havent seen much on, but pretty much the same spec as the 1710 and 1720 but with different design

well i personally prefer the look of the Viewsonic. plus, VS are a well established provider of TFT's as well. only problem is it has an older 25ms response time panel. prob not an issue anyway, but something to be wary of perhaps.

the Sharp is nice too, newer 16ms panel (prob 16ms AU panel, havent looked into it tbh) but there arent really many Sharp TFT's around. its a tough choice for sure

around that kinda price mark u could also consider the Hyundai L70S which is fantastic too (on the front page of this thread)
