**Baddass' Ultimate TFT FAQ and Reviews! (20" and Above Models)**

welcome to OcUK :) ANY of the ones in this thread will be fine for you really, just have a read thru the ones on the front page. the popular ones are Samsung 172X, LG1710B, LG 1720B, Hyundai Q17 and now the cheaper Hyundai L70S. Any of those will be great as will any others which ppl come along and recommend really tbh. just find one which u like the LOOk of and the price suits you and u should be fine. they all have great specs and many even use the same panel. once u've found one u like the look of, check this thread for opinions and make sure it sounds suitable for you

not that im aware of, they all use TN film panels, whereas some of the larger ones use VA and IPS panels for instance

well no not really. nowadays colour reproduction can be very good on the more recent TN panels. However, if you're a SERIOUS photo editor, then i would say get a larger model with an IPS or VA panel, or just stick with a CRT. At the end of the day, the colour on TN panels is still very good, just depends on how fussy you are about it all

2 TFT's, 1 TFT, or CRT?
Its realy hard when your new at this. I will be gaming and photoshop so people keep saying a CRT. Are TFTs going to be catching up with a CRT anytime soon?

well i think most ppl will tell you that modern TFT's are perfectly fine for gaming. The sharpness, brightness, vividness of colours and the "feel" of a TFT can make gaming a treat! Modern TFT's using 16ms and 12ms panels are perfectly fine for gaming as any owners of them will tell you.....just look through the comments by users in this thread!!

go get yourself a TFT! You know you want to! they are just so much cooler than CRT's!!! :)

as to whether you want to get 1 or 2, then i would probably start with 1 really good model as opposed to 2 slightly more average models. Get one of the top 17inch or maybe even 19inch models and then if you like it, get another one in the future.

If it were my money spending on a TFT now, i would go:

17 inch (my preferred size really at the mo) - (in no particular order really) Samsung 172X, LG1720B, Hyundai Q17+

19inch and bigger (if i were stretching to a larger screen) - Viewsonic VX912......possibly some of the others, but prob not if i was a serious gamer....for gaming, i would personalyl stick with a 17inch model,

hth a bit!

the L70S is brilliant, and has a very good quality VGA connection to make up for lack of DVI. the only other deciding factor might be the look of the TFT's imo

well the L70S is a nice monitor and is on more of a budget range.

my personal favourites at the mo for any 17inch TFT's are: Samsung 172X, Hyundai Q17+, LG1720B......have a shop round and see if u can get them. if you're def buying from OCUK, then perhaps look at the Viewsonic VX715 too, but i would personalyl try and track down one of those 3 i listed if you can, theyre beauties! :)

EDIT: regarding DVI and lack of, read the front page of this thread about it, rather than me rehasing the same answer as there

I see this ones on offer now to !

Too many choices

nice, but id go for the G model with DVI aswell if it were me. Planning on adding the Sharp to this thread soon, but there are still a few TFT's which are top of my list ahead of the sharp which i would get instead if it were me

well the L70S is nice too, but no DVI on that one. if you're running dual, then get a TFT with DVI so you can run one on both. on a budget, the Sharp, Hyundai L70S are my two tops. if you wanna stretch a little more then Samsung 172X, Hyundai Q17+ and LG1720B are my tops :)

ive seen the Lg1720B for £275 ish, but again, no DVI on that either.....

just done a massive rehaul of the main content of this thread to include new models, new info and links, and also remove all the older models from the page which are no longer really relevant.

thanks for that

reading through them both, they seems to have quite contradicting views to one another even though it is the same TFT, just one has DVI and one doesnt!! lol, oh well, at least there are some views on it which might be useful to ppl

there are a couple of 19 inch TFTs available now which might be suitable for gaming if you are interested. The hyundai L90D+ (very new) and the Viewsonic VX912.......

moving to a 17inch TFT you prob wouldn't notice much size difference from your CRT anyway, as your CRT is prob only a little larger than 17inch viewable anyway, and prob the same resolution.

All the TFT's covered on the front page of this sticky are great, but the Samsung 172X is one of my favs at the moment. Alternatively you could consider the Hyundai Q17+ (same 12ms panel as Sammy anyway) or possibly one of the TFT's using the 16ms AU panel instead. Performance between the 16ms AU panel and the 12ms Samsung panel are very similar so dont be put off by the specs on paper. Tough choice, but there are a lot of nice one to choose from :)
