Bahrain Grand Prix 2010, Sakhir - Race 1/19

A fairly dull race really, but then that's modern F1, far too hard to overtake

Well done to Alonso, really don't like him but as soon as he got past Vettel and put in the fastest lap it was obvious he was going to win comfortably, and he did deserve it with the first corners and pace once he got past Vettel,

Shame for Vettel, he would've won without that exhaust,

Hamilton did well, apart from getting stuck behind Rosberg and losing a lot of time, after that he was matching the top 3 for pace consistantly, and beat Jenson fairly comprehensively.

Looking forward to Melbourne, hopefully it'll suit the McLarens better than here :)

i think banning refueling has worked in the oppisite way as to how they wanted, instead of drivers having tires go off, their just going slower to maintain the tyres.

Need to change the aero rules, reduce downforce by at least 50%, make the cars wider and give them bigger tracks. More mechanical grip, less aero is whats needed.

What would be the point in making the cars wider? And making tracks wider is just not possible. Any more loony suggestions?

Listening to Jenson it's pretty much as expected. They were conservative on tyres to see how they would play out and he needs more time to get the car set to his liking.

By comparison it shows you what a superb job Alonso has done to fit in with that sort of pace. Once Alonso gets settled and they start to make the car to his liking Massa will be the no2.

Surprised myself by getting incredibly pleased when the Ferraris overtook Vettel. Never thought I'd dislike a team more than I do Ferrari, but here we are.
Let's not judge the season on this race though, we knew Sakhir was probably going to be boring. If Fred wins the next two or three though then maybe we are in for a dull season.

It will only start that way until they find the wear limits of the tyre. They all took it too easy and the tyres held up better than expected. They will start to push limits, F1 drivers rarely go slower than they need to. I think they teams played it too safe.

I doubt that will last.

First half of the race was dull but the second half was better but still nothing special. Alonso did a stunning job in a new car and team and think Massa will be worried his nightmare will be coming true :p Hats off to Lotus, they probably learned a lot today.

Interesting to see Alonso has changed into the Sponsor friendly race suit for the post race interview which he refused to do for McLaren.

Holy crap, it's worse than ever.

For the least few years F1 has been one of the most boring motorsports going. And this years rule changes did nothing to help.

Need to change the aero rules, reduce downforce by at least 50%, make the cars wider and give them bigger tracks. More mechanical grip, less aero is whats needed.

You haven't followed the sport much recently then? You do know they've done all that for years but the teams just make up the difference again, its just how it is. Making the tracks wider won't make much difference (apart from it never happening anyway for just F1) as they will still just use one line through each corner. Not sure what giving them wider cars would achieve.

Best driver in F1 + best car in F1 = race win. Pretty much a no-brainer really.

People forget that apart from MS, Alonso has won more races and championships than any other driver currently in F1. But unlike MS, Alonso is at the peak of his powers.

I would love to have seen how Vettel would've coped with Alonso all over the back of him, had Vettel not had the problem he did, but we shall have to save that for a later day. My gut feeling is that Vettel would've been able to win today's race as overtaking isnt easy.

Hamilton - fantastic result for him. He also showed that he is going to do to Button, what he did to Heikki in 2008 and 2009. Exactly as I predicted. Why JRS believes that Button has any chance against Hamilton is beyond me. Unless he is just baiting me. :D

Button - a lot of people are saying that Button needs time to adapt. Well, Alonso didnt (he won his first race, as did Raikonnen in 2007) and I dont believe Button will either. What you saw today was Button's true pace and roughly 2-3 places behind his team-leader is where I expect Button to finish in most races and the 2010 championship. I still say that he is one of the best No.2 drivers around and McLaren will do well to keep him. My belief is that McLaren's biggest points totals will come by keeping Hamilton and Button together. Hamilton won't have any issues with Button, as long as Button stays behind him in the race/championship.

Rosberg/MS: I actually expected MS to beat Rosberg today, so I am surprised that Rosberg managed to stay ahead of MS. Rosberg did well and will go home with a smile on his face, knowing he beat MS fair and square. I still maintain that MS will finish in front of Rosberg in the points race, come the end of the year. What you are seeing is not the pre 2005 MS; instead you are seeing a driver who, at 41 year of age, is well past his best. Take note: even past his best, he is still better than most of the drivers on the grid. As the season progresses, I fully expect to see Mercedes/MS move forward. MS and Brawn are not idiots.

Barrichello: I was surprised that some people on here thought that he was going to go past MS. Barrichello was MS's whipping boy. MS used to beat him at will and I never once believed that Barrichello was ever going to beat MS today.

I still feel that there are going to be lots of ups and downs this year and Ferrari won't have it all their own way. Its a shame that Button won't be able to fight on track with Massa, which is what I was hoping, but I am confident that at some point Hamilton at least, is going to be involved with some serious battles with Massa and Alonso. This seems inevitable. By rights, we want to see the best drivers competing for the leading positions and I think we are going to see that this year.

One thing is for sure though: Red Bull and Ferrari, at this point in time, have the fastest cars and Vettel is definitely on form and is the real deal.

Not exactly thrilling, but I didn't expect it to be. Hopefully now the teams can use today as an extended testing session and the next race will be a race instead of a fingers crossed endurance exercise.

Its possible that his boss asked him to do it, in a very loving manner. Its amazing what you can get people to do if you say it to them in the right way.
