Bahrain Grand Prix 2013, Sakhir - Race 4/19

Can see vettel running away with this. Can someone tell me, why did they cut all those corners put of the track from 2012? I think it was corners 17-20 perhaps??

Lewis tyre blow out was caused by some metal said Pirelli, so I guess the suspension failed and took out the tyre.

Mercedes qualifying quotes say:

A piece of debris on the circuit caused a left rear tyre failure which led to suspension and gearbox damage. He qualified in fourth place in spite of these setbacks and will start tomorrow's race from ninth position.

Pirelli have also said that Van Der Garde was following Hamilton and suffered a 10cm cut on one of his tyres as well.

From what I've gathered, the tyre was still intact and inflated when Hamilton stopped in the pit lane. It had delaminated. The problem was the debris caused the tyre to overheat, which caused the adhesive to fail, which caused the tread to come off the belt, which then broke the suspension and damaged the driveshaft and gearbox.

Hopefully Mercedes have some pace in the race.

I wouldn't put money on it. I fully expect Ferrari, Red Bull and Lotus to be faster over the full race distance. Mercedes still have issues with tyre wear, in comparison to the other top teams.

Alonso for victory, ahead of Vettel, I think. Rosberg 4th or 5th.

Just use this site, it has it all every year...

Thank you.

With only 3.5 race weekends held so far, it's a little early/unfair to infer anything from the results so far, this year.

...but last year's stats are interesting.
1. Kimi and Grosjean were even in qualifying, but in the race, Kimi was way ahead.
2. Kobayashi and Perez were fairly even last year in both qualifying and racing. Koba effectively got fired. And Perez got a drive with McLaren.
3. Hulkenburg was good last year, out performing Di Resta over the season in both qualifying and racing. Some people on this forum suggested that Hulk was more deserving of the McLaren drive for 2013, than Perez. I'd agree with them.
4. The biggest hammering was taken by Massa, at the hands of Alonso, though we must remember that Alonso was given preferential treatment throughout the season.
5. Glock vs Pic: Glock almost matched Alonso in terms of hammering his team-mate.
6. I have to mention Maldonado who battered Senna in qualifying. Senna really shouldnt be in F1. Statistically, Maldo is certainly a good driver.
