Bahrain Grand Prix 2013, Sakhir - Race 4/19

The major thing that annoys me about this race is that there's nobody there! One large grandstand down the straight, another after turn 2, and then nothing for the rest of the lap.

F1 should go to countries where the 150,000 seats sell out, not where the 5,000 seats are filled with the Royal family and their mates.

I agree tho I thought it was 40K + last year

Formula 1 tyre suppliers Pirelli will not use their soft tyres at the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend after concerns about how quickly they wear out.

Were they planning on bringing the softs? So does this mean the compounds will be Medium and Hard?

Yeah, 5,000 was just me exaggerating the figures to make a point :p

" Formula 1 tyre suppliers Pirelli will not use their soft tyres at the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend after concerns about how quickly they wear out.

No driver managed more than seven laps on one set of soft tyres at the Chinese Grand Prix last week.

"Bahrain is one of the most demanding tracks of the year for the tyres, mostly because of the high ambient and track temperatures," said Pirelli's motorsport director Paul Hembery.

"We expect about three stops per car."

Tyre degradation is expected to be reasonably high during the race in Bahrain, the fourth grand prix of the 2013 season.

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel leads the drivers' standings after three races, with Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen second and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who won in Shanghai last week, third. "

... Must be medium and hards, doubt they'll bring the supersofts :D

Lol.

When you look at it in isolation 7 laps on a race tyre is utterly stupid. It would require around 8 to 9 sets to get through a race distance!

Doesn't this play into the likes of Mercedes hands, not going to have Vettel or anyone else with a late chase to the finish line on quicker tyres. They won't get 1st but gives them a good chance of a podium finish if the car stays reliable in Hamiltons side of the garage.

So far Hamilton is doing what Alonso did at the start of last season. Consistent high points finishes/podium. If Mercedes can develop the car so he can get a few wins, he might be in with a shout in my opinion (though i concede it is probably unlikely).

Watched the classic 2006 bahrain gp earlier and it made me lol when MB said "Brilliant pit stop by Renault"... the stop was about 6.5 seconds.

Just goes to show how much they've improved in 6 / 7 years and indeed before that.

Kimi is falling into this category far more than Hamilton. I am a great Hamilton fan, but I really doubt he can pull off WDC this year :(
