Bahrain Grand Prix 2014, Sakhir - Race 3/19

The exact same was being said in 2009 after Brawn had a ~0.5s car advantage and Red Bull caught up by mid-season. Obviously there's more of a gap this time, nearly 6 times in fact, but it's by no means impossible for it to happen. There's another 15 races to go yet :)

Like you've said yourself it was 0.5 second gap! However, I guess we don't know what performance gains teams will get over the season with the new regs so I guess we can't say anything is impossible. Of all the teams on the grid I think it will be red bull that manage it if it does happen. Their in season development has tended to be very good and it looks like they have the chassis but need to find more power.

Not only was the gap smaller, Brawn could not afford to develop the car to the same extent as pretty much any other team.
Merc has no issue with funding or personnel to develop.

Remember in the takeover Brawn had to get rid of a huge amount of people.

I think it's more likely to be another merc team. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with RBR now, other than PU and I don't see with development freeze how they can't get that difference back.

But in reality it looks like the teams behind will help Merc, by fighting between themselfs and no clear 2nd team. Meaning 3 or 4 teams will be taking the 3rd place and scraps when Merc mess up.

I guess it depends on whether they can make changes due to 'reliability'

I don't think there's any real difference.
I'm happy for one team to dominate as that is what F1 is most seasons. Even going back decades it was usually one team out in front.

The difference is that Merc are letting them both race were as red bull told their No2 driver to hold station.

Merc has new side pods when they come back to Europe and colder races, the car will be even faster :D

The only teams that can catch them are McLaren\Williams\Force India

Said all last year, it's not about the domination or the championship, it's about the racing and how good it is. Vettel rarely raced anyone, he had no competition upfront and Webber could very rarely challenge him either in qualification and even less so in races. On top of that they weren't allowed to race, but everyone up and down the grid saw less action, boring overtakes. It was 99% of the time someone qualified out of position or people on diff tyre strategies getting in each others way, a faster/newer tire passing a slower one easily or a slower guy holding up everyone with no one able to get past.

For me, each race is individual and I remember good races, forget the boring ones. either way I either enjoy watching the race or not. Who wins the title is aside from that. A title win is a memory of a podium after the final race and a name recorded on a piece of paper. With football I watch 38 Arsenal games a season, I either enjoy watching those games or not, if they win the title at the end of the season or not doesn't change the 6th game I watched at all, it was either good to watch or not.

Titles are meh, points are fairly meaningless. As yet I don't think at any stage Rosberg has out driven Hamilton yet has a lead through a stupid £1 part failing completely beyond his control. This individual race was unpredictable, the fighting between the Mercs was fantastic, the fighting between 3rd to 10th(at least) was brilliant, a few big contacts thrown in(see Lotus do have a place in F1 still). It was a great race to watch. if Merc win the title by 250 points, or take grid penalties for all the last 8 races due to needing new engines or something barely score a point and Red Bull take the title by 100 points, either way THIS race was great to watch.

That is all I will care about, the race I'm watching, if it's good or not. Vettel alone, nor RBR was the reason for the past several years being boring. Webber being cack and RBR not allowing racing were a huge factor, but up and down the grid was boring fights, far apart, with a specific boring type of racing.

What a fantastic race that was. It's great to see some racing for once and the duel between Lewis and Nico was brilliant. Merc are in a class of there own at the moment, the others need to play catch up quickly.

Unrelated, but was enjoyable to watch.
Why can't we have drivers bad mouthing eachother anymore?

PS. A few months earlier, Senna declared on TV that he wanted to drive for Williams, for free.
R.Denis responded by giving a £1m/race deal, making him the highest paid driver in F1 history.

Why? Nobody is really being hindered by it. If teams do fuel save its only for the first part of the race. Mercedes even managed to go balls to the wall for 10 laps at the end and not come close to the fuel limit.

For the most part, the 100kg limit seems to be easily achievable for all teams.

fair enough, i thought they were close to the wire normally

being neither biased toward nico or lewis i cant help but think lewis would have got past nico if the roles were reversed. hopefully it happens

i approve of this post

i think mercedes gave a lot to the sport by letting them race, it absolutely wasnt risk free and could have easily ended with 0 points and 2 peed off drivers

I've just watched the highlights..

That battle was epic. Mega credit to both drivers and Merc for letting them go at it. Proper balls to the wall racing. Still shocking how massively far ahead they are. The constructors title is over and done with, and it's a case of which one will claim the drivers title.

Ya'know what, just watched the highlights again, gave me goosebumps, haven't had that since Canada 2011 on the last lap.

So hat's off to Hamilton, that was superb racing and defending, and to Rosberg as well, to the both of them, fantastic clean proper racing...This is why I love Formula 1. :D
