It warms my heart, to read the universal dislike/vitriol, against this quali format, on Twitter. Probably the only thing you'd get all F1 fans agreeing on.

he's a strong believer in all publicity is god publicity. it's still making huge amounts of profit.

it's like Hollywood, we know the movie sequel will be bad, but we cant help watching it.

Only way this format works is having unlimited tyres
What I didn't twig when this was all first proposed is that you have to go out early AND you don't have unlimited tyres
So you are forced to put your best lap out there at the start
