You'd think it would be simple wouldn't you, go back to the old system until you come up with something less rubbish but clearly not you just keep with the current broken system blindly hoping it works!

The longer it goes on with no change the worse it is changing the rules further and further into the season. If they'd have changed it after 1 race no one would have complained now it's turning into a circus where you could see it going 4/5/6 races before anything happens.

Seriously?

For ***** sake! Didn't work in Australia. Didn't work in Bahrain. So it's not going to work in China either.

Maybe, as the promoters asked for it, they're going to wait until the promoters beg for it to be changed back?

BBC report hints that teams are thinking over a proposal to combine multiple laps to decide grid.

Didn't we used to have that and it quickly got abandoned? Combining 2 laptimes?

The last method wasn't broken, why on earth are they hell bent on changing it?

The current system fails quite so badly because they've combined it with the existing progressive elimination system (Q1-Q3). To make it work go back to a 60 minute session and knockout every 2 minutes after the first 20 minutes.

If you want to mix the grid up a bit, why not have a time trial model? Give them 1 lap each. Or have a system where they get 2 shots at, first running through in reverse championship order; then in the order set by the first laps.

Basically anything you could think of would be better than the current mess.

World Superbikes does a 'Superpole' method where one rider/bike does their hot lap and that's it. If they make a mistake, tough. Works quite well as so,either it really mixes the grid up!

That sounds like the similar system that F1 did with single lap qualifying. While it made for good tv exposure for the sponsors, and probably put the emphasis on the driver's lap, it wasn't that interesting to watch on television, IMO.

Is Todt, Ecclestone and to a lesser extent Charlie Whiting, deliberately trying to destroy F1? That's certainly the way it looks. They broke qualifying which was working well and now they point blank refuse to go back to the old system. Madness!! The new rules for next year don't take into account the drivers opinions so is unlikely to change anything for the better. It's sad to see the only sport that I enjoy be flushed down the pan the way these idiots are going.
