He darted right and clipped his rear wheel on the front wheel of another car. The frame by frame analysis suggests he may have been avoiding debris. It was quite a hectic start.

Not sure as he seemed to turn into the debris on the slo mo :p

It looked to me that he was slightly faster than the 3 in front and had nowhere to go left, so tried to go right around Magnusson but it was quite a sharp turn across. He either misjudged or didn't see the AT behind him

With all of the excessive safety regulations they've brought into F1 that in some cases has had an adverse affect on the racing all this shows is that no matter how far you go you just can't stop freak accidents in an inherently dangerous sport. The car snapped like a twig.

Yeah but there would have been many, many more accidents and possible deaths without all the safety regulations. You'll never stop accidents completely. It's all about damage limitation.

Albon pit radio - Ok, News that's just come through. They've done the red flag countback to SC line 2, so that means we're P5. Bottas is in front of us on the grid again. Just a new bit of information. Bottas will come through in front of Ricciardo and you on the formation lap, alright.

Lecerc pit radio - So they decided the position at Safety car line for them was the most sensible point to decide the starting gridagain. On the grid, you will be on the right you will be right, right behind Sebastian, On the left you will have Stroll.

but where's the line in not damaging the sport too much and keeping drivers safe? if you don't want drivers dying ban F1, simple.

Also people praising current safety, I would call a car snapping in half and bursting into flames on impact a total failure of the current safety standards. Do you accept that freak accidents will always happen or go even further in castrating the racing aspect of the sport towards having even more safety?

Just dawned on me the medical car guys had open faced helmets, as they went running straight at a fireball. Fair play.

At the start like that, you're focusing predominantly on what is ahead of you, and it's pretty manic right there.

Hell of an accident to see. Reminded me of the fatal accident of Francois Cevert, where the barrier had quite literally sliced him apart. Thankfully modern safety stopped that entirely. Good to see he's getting away with minor burns and broken ribs from a fireball like that.

Norris radio - Just to confirm, I overtake two of these two cars in front of me, before the line?

Pit - That's correct. We're going to overtake Ocon and we're going to overtake Gasly and hold position behind Ricciardo

Ocon radio - What is Norris doing? Guys can you hear me?

Pit - Yes. Go ahead.

Ocon - What position am I in as Norris just passed me?

Pit - You are P8, Norris is P7. Daniel is P6.

Ocon pit radio - Ok. Be more careful with rear slip out of turn 13 this time please.

10 second penalty for Kvyat - causing a collision

For those saying there should be tyres everywhere, just look at how much of the track has armco.

We really saying we put tyres instead of barriers on straights and the inside of turns?
