I didn't watch qualifying but am surprised that both mercs went slower in Q3, did they just have bad runs or are they saving tyre sets after realising they can't get anywhere near pole?

Poor George, you can see he’s devastated.

Up against the best of the best, couldn't match his pace all session, and fluffed his final run. That's gotta hurt. I still think we'll see a lot more from him this season, but he's in for the fight of his life. Being beaten by Hamilton is one thing, getting trounced is another.

Welcome back Ferrari I guess, see if they can stick the landing. Not too surprising with RBR, Honda put a crap load of effort into that engine and RB have always been pretty strong with nailing aero.

Hope McLaren can get on top of their issues.

Followed duff orders from the team in last lap.

Went to hard on out lap as team told him, then got to first corner on flying lap, and had no grip.

Little mistake, will be forgotten and learnt from, he will be back on the pace.

Agree, it adds nothing. Can't the mods step in so we stick to productive F1 chat?

On that note,

I think Mercedes will be fairly happy with that today. They aren’t a million miles away based on qualifying.

Worried about Verstappen, Sainz and LeClerc fighting it out. Verstappen is aggressive and I’m not convinced the Ferrari drivers will be experienced enough to back out to live enough day. This season is going to be epic.

I think Ferrari are going to be hard to beat without other teams bringing upgrades.

This is where RBR will struggle because they have a fast car but not a solid driver line up.

Its all about Max, and whilst Perez is steady - I think the combination of Charles and Carlos (who are both really hungry) will outclass RBR. If Merc fix their issues I can see it being a 3 way fight and in that scenario I think George is likely going to be a better performer than Perez too.

That being said, Haas and Alpha are looking like they might have some legs too.

I’m looking forward to seeing some actual racing tomorrow to see how the new design works in reality. Who knows, maybe Merc have pulled an epic Troll and will overtake everything in the field tomorrow

he was pretty similar to Lewis throughout the sessions I thought (until the end).

I reckon Mercedes will be happy with that as Bottas was nowhere near Hamilton at times (see Perez as well).
