On that note,

I think Mercedes will be fairly happy with that today. They aren’t a million miles away based on qualifying.

Worried about Verstappen, Sainz and LeClerc fighting it out. Verstappen is aggressive and I’m not convinced the Ferrari drivers will be experienced enough to back out to live enough day. This season is going to be epic.

The problem may arise from the fact they wouldn’t have been fighting him from the slower Ferrari over the last few seasons. Now it’s seemingly faster I can’t see them yielding as easily.

I think (really hope in fact) Max realises his style will not work this year.

Damage to floor from bumping and barging his way through did not make as big a difference on last years cars, as it will this year, when so much more downforce is from the floor and ground effect.

Yep! I can see fireworks. I like Sainz the most out of the 3 and hope he might be the least hot headed.

Fully expect Hamilton to maximise the performance of that Mercedes. It might weirdly be his most impressive season even if he doesn’t win.

Yeah it's going to mix up more I feel, I expected Verstappen to be on pole by a second, he will probably win the race, but you never know.

Red Bull's advantage looked biggest on short runs with the softs. I expect Ferrari to be stronger in race than quali.

Wow f2 now completely forgot.

Thanks for the reminder! I was so busy putting dinner in the oven I totally forgot.

Plus Sainz has incredible pace on longer runs.

Anyway, hands up all you guys who were adamant you were done with F1 at the end of last season who just watched qualifying :p

I’ve skipped it all so far, but I’ll try the race and see how it goes. My excitement levels are non existent currently. Sky contract needs renewing soon, so I’ll decide then.

Did RB do something wrong in qualifying to justify the amount of whinging going on in this thread or are people just perma butthurt about last year?

I wouldn't know. I haven't watched F1 since at least 2016/17. As I honestly started losing interest in the sport because of the type of behaviour running through the sport. Plus overall you could predict who was going to be the winner from Q1 to the race.

Oh and Crofty is still annoying. Another reason I had stopped watching because of his artificial hype.

Red Bull are just a horrible team with horrible leadership.

I started to really despise Red Bull slowly over time since the Istanbul Webber/Vettel 2010 incident and they've shown they are a horrible team. Every year their infantile antics gets worse and worse.

Never know someone to generate so much hate as hamilton does.

I'm hoping max continues his aggressive driving style and learns the hard way you cant race like playstation with less experienced drivers not avoiding every lunge he makes.

Sainz wasn't even allowed to fight with Max under the old race director's jurisdiction. :p

Well that was interesting. Should have put a £5 on Leclerc to win the WDC this year, it’s do-able if Ferrari don’t drop the development ball (which I think they will).

Seeing Merc so far down wasn’t a surprise after testing. I’ve not subscribed to the whole “sandbagging” thing… but that car looked like a handful before they turned a wheel in qualifying.

Hopefully they can suss out their issues and we can have a true 3-way fight for the title. Gutted for K-Mag… he put in a great lap to get in to Q3.

I'll be honest, the big difference seems to be the engine. It cant be a coincidence that is the two Ferrari powered bottom teams that are suddenly in the midfield and close to the Merc...

As surprising as it is, it feels like Mercedes have suddenly got the weakest engine and Ferrari have created a rocket ship of one. Pretty embarrassing that they have dropped the ball so much on the component that was their main strength for all these years.

I mean look at Williams, McLaren ad Aston Martin. They all look rubbish, and i think it is only the aero/chassi on the Merc that is keeping them in the game against that Ferrari engine.

I said earlier that i would be shocked if this was the case...well colour me shocked!

Diddums. Born with a silver spoon all his life. He showed his true colours when he slapped Bottas after causing a crash.
That's one incident of bad behaviour I've ever seen from him after a pretty nasty high speed off where he felt the other driver had caused the collision. I'm not sure how you've come to the conclusion that's showing his 'true colours'.
We all lose it now and again and regret doing so when the red mist has lifted.
