So I used a vpn to sign up to F1 TV Pro. Someone said they only needed to use VPN to sign up for the subscription. But when I fire up the F1 app on a FireTV stick, it doesn’t show me FP1.

Im guessing you now need a VPN to watch also?

If I use the F1 app on my iPhone, it’s the same as the Fire stick. As soon as I enable a VPN connection, it then lets me watch FP1.

Check https://support.f1.tv/s/article/2022Can-I-use-F1-TV-when-travelling?language=en_US

It depends on which VPN country you are in when you sign-up. If you sign-up with a USA vpn then you'll get only the basic package if it sees youre located in the UK (i.e. VPN off), so you're better off signing up within a EU country

EDIT- but this is assuming UK still counts as EU after Brexit. I'll need to research that further

Indeed. Ferrari has been known to be kind on its tyres over the last few years and I heard a few comments about the degradation being higher than expected. Could be in for a very good race.

Ferrari will start the season strong and fall off the pace…. Or so I think.

Hulk and Mag had a good showing. I think both have a good chance of out qualifying their team mates, despite the lack of testing.

Not sure what's going on with McLaren. They did do some soft tyre runs, but I wonder if they where focusing more on the race, given the problems they faced in testing. Doesn't look great for them at the moment, but we'll see tomorrow.

The Alfa and the Alpine were a surprise. Ok neither were close at all to the top two, but Bottas put in a decent lap. Would be hilarious if he's battling with Lewis (unlikely). And Alonso with a sniff of decent car could be a source of entertainment.

If the Ferrari and RBR are equally as quick, I can't see Ferrari beating RBR over the course of a season. Max seems to have more dogged determination than LeClerc, who makes a fair few mistakes, and to top it off Ferrari are one of the worst teams not he grid when it comes to strategy, plus Sainz will challenge LeClerc more than Perez will Max.

Yes, a fake car. The aero that results entirely from the floor and body are the areas they're now suffering from.

Every other team launched their cars in Barcelona and have made only minor iterations to their designs since.

Absolute rubbish.

The RB is now a totally different car to Barcelona.
Totally new floor, and totally new side pods.

If you are calling them "minor iterations" on the RB, then so are the new body panels on the Mercs, as underneath the body panels was exactly the same in Barcelona as in Bahrain.

This season, the pecking order is going to do a fair bit of settling out. Particularly in the midfield, McLaren were a huge disappointment today as were Aston.

Cannot see anyone running away with anything this year.
There will be so much development, and so many changes throughout the year, things will not settle down till last third/quarter probably.

Looks to be big swings with cars in the sweet spot of setup which seems to change a lot with the temps, hope so as even within races we'll see fluctuations of speed until they get on top of it.

There is something about the Merc that looks fundamentally wrong, it seems a complete bag of bolts to drive! Nice idea to go so left field with the no-pods but it might be one of those designs that just is at odds with what is needed to go fast, balance.

It'll be nice to see Ferrari/Redbull close and I hope Max does not get an easy ride this year, he needs to mature and he needs to learn to win fairly and start being the driver we hope he can be.

Can't wait for tomorrow. F1 back and plenty of rugby to watch, nice Saturday. Think the Red Bull looks a stunning bit of engineering, along with the Ferrari. However Ferrari will inevitably fall apart as a team and make multiple poor strategy calls. Red Bull will out develop them too.

We're doing the F1 fantasy league at work. I've gone with:

  • Verstappen
  • Sainz
  • Alonso
  • Gasly
  • Lando
Then Alpha Tauri as my constructor for now. Boosted Sainz this week.

Voted Red Bull would be on top and it seems that my armchair genius was correct for race 1. Goddammit.

Seen none of the cars in action as a Freeview viewer. Tomorrow night, C4 highlights and the Coulthard / Webber RB fan show. Ugh. I will likely revert to R5 audio.

Dearly love Lewis to avenge last years shenanigans; although way to early to predict; I seriously hope the 2022 racing gods its anyone but Red Bull!

I would never write off Mercedes but if it were the case, and I had to pick and a none UK driver, Ferrari, and Sainz, always love the way the guy carries himself.

So it’s a new season and there’s a lot of cool stuff going on. New rules, new driver line ups and new car designs.

But tonight in FP2 the coolest thing in F1 so far.

The Alpha’s rear lights.

Like frickin’ Knight Rider. So cool. :p
