Band of Brothers or Pacific?

When I watched the first The Pacific for the first time, I couldn't help but be disappointed because I had compared it to BoB.

After a second watch I enjoyed it a lot more because it is different to BoB in that it relentlessly displays the horrors of war and how it can change people (in this case, the three major characters).

There were a couple of disappointing episodes (Melbourne, Iwo Jima), but as soon as the focus turned to Sledge, The Pacific became top notch for me.

Band of Brothers is still better because:
1) The story itself and the characters are much more interesting, and you got the interviews from the war vets themselves, which was fascinating.
2) It focuses more on the cameraderie of war, so you get to know and care for the characters, so when they fall it hits you. I just didn't care about Robert Leckie and Basilone or their stories.
3) The story follows the European Theater which was much more relevant to us.

Edit:

Just thinking now, had HBO done The Pacific in 2001 and Band of Brothers last year, would they have turned out any different, assuming they used the appropriate technology at the time?

On the 4th episode of pacific, its good but like others have said its nothing on band of brothers. One thing that really annoys me is every battle so far has been in the dark (not saying that didnt happen, it probably did more than daylight but..), its almost like they just couldnt be bothered to make realistic battle scenes so just did it in the dark to cover it up a load of crap actors shooting at trees to make it look good. Band of brothers battle scenes (although happened less) were far better and realistic.

Oh and like others have said, no character development really, the main guy is alright but the rest i dont really care for.

the battles they are showing happened at night (like basilone earning his medal of honour)

wait till episode 8

I've watched Band of Brothers five times and plan to watch again some time in the future.
I watched The Pacific once and am not interested in watching it again.

BoB is in a totally different league to Pacific, so much so that if I didn't know the same people made Pacific then I wouldn't have guessed it and would have thought it was just an inferior rip off riding on the coat tails of BoB.

I never get tired of Band of Brothers, I love it! I haven't watched Pacific yet though, so I can't comment. It is something on my list of things to watch, although BoB has set the bar rather high, not sure if it can compete, but we shall see.

Just ordered BoB there actually as it's been ages since I seen it. :D

And to weigh in, I would have needed to have seen 'the pacific' but people who have seen it close to me, didn't suggest it was anywhere near the gripping television BoB was.

On ep 9 of the pacific, its got very intense and really does show the horrors of war, both this and band of brothers which ive watched through both for the first time recently have made me realise how lucky i am to live how i live today.
