Bargain 182

Is there really £1500 worth of parts in a Clio without an engine? Where are they all?

Usually all the gear hidden behind the door cards and in the linings of the seats...

Wow, is 1500 not a bargain for a 182 anymore?? things have seriously changed since I left 14 months ago. The cheapest were around the 4k mark!

Some places will do the belts and pre-tensioners for 300 if you ask around. I'd love a 182 out here :(

How come you are so confident?

It's a high mileage, old, French car that you paid £1600 for. Surely it's cheap for a reason?

I mean it's unlikely that I will sell it and the belts snap and they come back. Obviously I am going to tell them there is no proof of them being done, and that they will need to be done.

That's not a bad price, if I struggle to sell it as it is then I'll service it and get them done.

Interior, Wheels, Spoiler, Skirts, Bumpers etc

Gearbox, suspension components.

Anyway I really don't think it's going to come to breaking it :p

In my experience, whenever you advertise anything for sale you should do so in the most positive light and make it appeal to as many people as possible.

Would it not be a better tactic to sell the car ready to go with everything already done? If I was buying that car I'd want answers as to why things hadn't been done on time. I'd then begin to wonder why these hadn't been done on time. Has the previous owners not looked after the car and stuck to the service schedules?

£2k isn't a lot of money for a car but it's still a lot of money to write off. I'm sure people wouldn't want to take the risk being in the position you could be if the engine components do fail and you are left with a car to sell as parts.

True, I'll do the bits which I can do myself first (bodywork and wheels). Advertise as it is and see what response I get, if it doesn't sell I'll do the belts and service it.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but it may be worth asking Renault to check to see if they have any records of work done for the reg. I'd be very surprised if the cam belt hasn't been done as it should have been changed at 72K miles or 5 years (over 2 years ago). I'd be more concerned that the aux belt hasn't been changed recently as it should be on its forth belt (3 changes).

Done this before looking at the car, spoke with the local renault garage and they said if the work was done elsewhere there is no central database or record.

It should have been done by now for sure but there is no way of knowing without history/proof so I will be telling the buyer this then it is up to them to get them done.

I was tempted by one of these cars, which is why I posted up the more expensive one...... the dearer one would tempt me more.

Well I've decided to use the car for a while, have put it on my private policy. Will stick to the cheaper cars for the trading. Thanks all for the advice.

Unfortunatlely my step mum who I live with has been diagnosed with cancer :( So I've sold the car in order to cut down on outgoings and help out as much as possible here.

Here's a few pictures of the car finished for anyone interested -

I put it up for £2395 on Pistonheads, someone came and viewed it the same day and we agreed on £2150 in the end. Would have liked to keep it but got more important things to worry about at the moment :(

Thanks, just needed a quick sale, at £2395 it was the cheapest 2005 model up on Pistonheads so it went straight away.

We have cut down to just the one car at the moment and looking at possible options on the Motobility scheme for her. Fingers crossed they think they have caught it early and they are getting her on treatment straight away.

Of course the history was lost at auction, how incredibly clumsy of them. I'll tell you this, there is no such thing as a bargain 182
