Might get that monitor.... purely because the bird they've used is absolutely amazing!

HI there

The 223BW is an absolutely first class screen. Its what I was using before this 24" model. In comparison the Samsung maybe has ever so slightly better colours due too its dynamic contrast settings and magic bright stuff. Its viewing angles are not great but thats the same for most TN panels but if your looking head on at it then its not a problem.

The 223BW will display 1680x1050 better than the 24" on offer here as thats its native resolution.

However if it was my money and I was deciding between the Samsung 223BW and OcUK 24" then I'd buy the OcUK 24" because 1920x1200 is a far better resolution to work with in windows and the viewing angles on the 24" are much superior.

Heres an interesting one. Are any of the monitors that are 22" on offer from OCUK, a PVA type monitor?

Hi there

There are no 22" VA type panels unfortunately, they are all TN. I've been begging Samsung for months to do a VA version of say the 226BW but guess they are not hearing it.

Also guys can I just say I'd never recommend or push a crap product on OcUK or these forums.
I've recommend this 24" to you all because its actually something I'd buy myself and be pleased with.

OK fair enough its not got the build quality as in the casing as say a DELL, but the panel inside this monitor is on par with those supplied in the DELL's and BenQ 24" models. However it still looks good on the desk as it is glossy black but the cheaper plastics used for the casing do make it lighter, I believe it only weighs 6-8kg and is very easy to move around.

For those of you who don't want to rush in then thats understandable so what I will do is also put this on our weekly offers on Wednesday, I can't obviously do the price as low as our weekend special price as that would not then make it really a weekend special but it will give those of you who decided to wait for reviews to get it at a discounted price again.

Can anyone confirm whether this panel can be turned dim without sacrificing the IQ? I hear some PVA panels look washed out when the brightness is turned down.

Hi there

I am using the one on my desk at 30% brightness and 65% contrast as thats the settings I like best. I found it too bright previously but I am using it for desktop work and sitting rather close to it.

Ordered mine.

I am very unsure though about the monitor, if I don't like it for whatever reason I will send it back I guess. THe main thing for me is decent black levels and of course easy to switch inputs so I can use it on my 360!

Gibbo says its good, and he doesn't really steer people wrong from what I have seen, so I will hope for the best :)

Hi there

Yep I'd happily spend my money on one and am tempted to buy the parents one for Christmas. Out of the box its too brights and the colours look over saturated well this one did but I just tweaked the brightness down to 30%, contrast to 65% and used 54% Red, 48% Green and 50% blue and the picture now looks fantastic and very natural. :)

HI there

You see guy told you it was good. I'd never recommend a crap product.

Yes I agree the blue LED on the front is too bright, but I've fixed this one with a black marker pen to DIM it down a little. :)

Those who purchased on Weekend Only got themselves a bargain, enjoy it. :)

Hi there

What is that toolbar programme your using as its like the Mac OS but on a PC, what is it, is it a free download?

HI there

If its not too much trouble it would be appreciated if you guys can add/submit reviews of this product to the OcUK website please.

I have been following this monitor since last Saturday since I intend to buy a 22" (or now a 24") for Christmas. It would be nice if you guys help me out with a few questions before I decide for this monitor.

Given that I use my PC mostly for playing WoW (or other RPGs), very occasionaly I play FPSs, watching DVDs and browsing the net......

1) How would this monitor compare in terms of picture quality with say a Samsung 2232BW Pebble (which was the monitor I was going to buy before seeing this)?

2) Having a reclining chair at my PC I tend to lean backwards and look up towards the monitor - since the base doesn't have any height adjust ability - anyone thinks this will a problem for good picture representation at such angles?

3) Does the monitor take any external lcd arms?

4) Sorry if this question has been asked before but since my card is an 8800gts will I be able to play games at 1680x1050.

Thanks for all your answers.

Hi there

1. You may preferre the Samsungs colours, but may not!
2. This 24" is far more appropiate as viewing angles are vastly superior to the Samsung TN based panels.
3. Its VESA complaint so if the arms can attache via that then yes.
4. 1680x1050 no problem for a GTS, even Crysis is acceptable.

Hi there

For those who are moaning for whatever reasons, here are some facts!

OcUK does weekend specials from time to time, this is not the first time and when we do these we promote it heavily via most forums including general discussion to make sure people get to see the deal. This deal was posted in monitors, graphics, general discussion and motors.

The deal was also posted on the front page of our website and within the latest news section as well on the site. So it was very clearly advertised and made clear it was a weekend only deal.

Now OcUK was not trying to promote an unknown product, we already knew it was damn good as I actually got one out myself, put it on my desk and tested it and am still using it as I feel reluctant to put it back as its so good.

So what I actually did was inform this community about what was an absolute bargain, I tested it and confirmed it was a VA panel, I took photos of the unit in action from various angles. This is not the action of selling an unknown product, this is the action of me informing our customers what a fantastic product this truly is and that for the period of WEEKEND ONLY it will be on special offer.

So the price has not been hiked up at all, its at the original price its always been sold at which is still incredibly cheap as OcUK could easily sell this panel all day long at £269+VAT with no issues.

The people that know me on these forums know I won't recommend a product unless I believe it is good and would actually buy it myself. Thats why so many people over the weekend lept in and purchased these because they knew they were onto a good thing.

I made it clear the price would return back to normal on Monday but extended it until Monday midday to give some more a chance to get in on the deal.

I then also for those who did not want to leap in head first said I would offer the monitor again at a slight discount on This Week Only which will go live in about one hours time, it won't be as good as the weekend special for obvious reasons but it will be a damn good price for what is a fantastic piece of kit.

Thats all I have to say on the matter!

P.S. Thread title updated!

HI there

Anyone confirmed HDCP compliant yet?

Its now on TWO, it won't be going any lower for a long time, after speaking with DGM today in regard to demand, they can literally only supply us about 300 units per week which is hardly enough to meet the current demand.
