BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

yup, same, mine finally arrived, and after a nice mid afternoon nap (student :p ) i switched it over. frankly, i had concerns it might be a touch to big. its just immense sitting infront of me. about to load up ut3 and give it a blast. first impressions, definately too wobbly, but will first try something, padding, something soft and absorbant underneath the base to see if that helps, if not, i'll buy a cheap stand for it. need to clean up desk, move some stuff and try it another couple of inches back, but because the stand is quite deep i can't push it back much. i htink because of the sheer size it needs to be further away than my 20" was.

will be very good for watching films with that extra size when sitting back, but feel it might be a little too big for general use.

it is a great quality screen though, at least for video and general use. about to test gaming side of it. the led is insanely bright, before i even turned on the computer i had a temporary 4 post it notes stuck on top, because 1 barely touched it. its changed the nice blue to a dirty pink though, need better coloured postit notes :p

i know i've got some black electrical tape around here somewhere, just gotta find it. getting quite fed up now with the amount of led's on computers. every single case should come with a standard no lights setup, and a ultra bright blue led keep a room glowing in the middle of the night model. my antec 900 , router, chargers, just so many pointless led's.

drunkenmaster - What kind of stand can you get to replace the existing one? Is it easily done?

And is the "Wobbliness" that bad?

It has VESA (VESA MIS-D 100) mounting holes so you can buy any VESA compatible stand. I don't find the wobbliness any problem at all but I have a sturdy desk (which is on a laminate flooring with concerte underneath). I can imagine if you put it on a smaller desk it might wobble a bit more (especially if the desk was on carpet with floorboards underneath).

Apologies for the quality, I'm not the best photographer :)

Having 3 screens is just fantastically awesome, I can have everything open at once, it really is a joy to use. Still need to buy some monitor (speaker) stands, then I'll be chuffed (they're on the floor at the moment).

Oh I see!

Can you show me an example of any of these VESA compatible stands?

They are available from a well-known auction site.
In the search words put in "vesa stand".

You could even wall mount it. Type in "lcd wall".

The problem I forsee is that the stand you buy (to replace the one that comes with the monitor) might be just as bad.

thats about it, i knew it was supposed to be vesa standard holes so should be able to get a stand for it fairly easily. what i really want to find is one that lets it sit further back. as in, i guess an extremely heavy base that couterbalances it so the monitor can be off centre, so its pushed further back. most stands are set so the monitor lies roughly in the middle of the base so it doesn't topple. i have a fairly deep desk, its one of those huge ikea jobbies.

it only wobbles a bit tbh, not with every touch, but no wobbling would be better, now and then when i really hit a key hard it wobbles noticably more and i think that will get very irritating. the wanting it further back is because, it just feels to big at the moment, needs to be ever so slightly further back to really feel comftable i think.

but then i'm also heavily favouring my left eye today, whacked in contacts as normal and my right eye was insanely painful so left the contact out for most of today, so i've been doing everything one eye'd. its insane how quickly you get used to it, and since i put the other contact back in when i make an effort to think about it, i can see how much i'm favouring the view from my left eye right now. like my brains almost ignoring what my right eye can see. brains a funny old thing :p

EDIT:- also worth mentioning, height adjustment, i think its not a reason to not buy, its not needed at all. tbh, if it was any higher it would really just but, because its bigger, too high. the top of the screen is at the same height as my older 2005fpw dell, but the bottom of the screen is 3 inches lower maybe as i had that set quite high. if you moved the screen up you'd find the top of the screen simply too high and your neck crained up all day long.

In that case, why not get a stand that sits on the floor. This way you guarentee that the monitor wont topple over or move at any time. The arm of the stand will sit behind your desk (or if possible you can drill a hole in your desk, where the arm will come through). This will give you something very sturdy. Its a lot of work though.

The stand cant be "that" bad, surely?

I think you can also get VESA stands that clamp to your desk which may allow you to position the display futher back than a desk stand. It would also remove the need for a heavy base as it's anchored to the desk.

Yup,

I like that a lot :)

That light looks utterly stupid

any decent ideas on how to cover it up apart from tape?

Are there any black stickers you can use to cover up the logo as well for a complete black frame?
