Bargain!!!

assuming the OP can manage it all himself

Got the above, that'll do won't it?

It's cheap, but it isn't a super amazing bargain as you or the OP suggests, and that is most people's point.

You can buy a working one with below average mileage from a trader for £200 more: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...quicksearch/true/page/3/radius/1501?logcode=p

You also assume that nothing else is wrong with the car, something the OP has no idea about either as he's been unable to test drive the car.

£100 was the right money for this car given the damage.

I've left a message with the seller of that car to arrange a viewing. Hopefully they'll still have it with any luck.

you're just guessing it needs £200 of parts, when mine snapped a cambelt (twice  ) it took me less than 100 to fix it both times and that included giving it a service. £200 in parts is likely the worst its going to be.. and theres always the option of a 2nd hand head.

It is a guess, but an educated one.

A head set is going to be no less than £50, lets say 8 valves are going to be over £30 for eBay cheapies - more if you source them locally. Cambelt kit £65, Auxbelt £10. All these prices assume you eBay it or have a very good trade arrangement locally and that is £155 before you add oil and filter and all the other little bits like valve grinding paste etc.

£200 is almost bang on the money.

Why would i be going to eBay and paying through the nose for parts?

"Heyyy youuuu guys, I just bought a Ferrari F40 for £500 with 10 months MOT"

"Wow, bargain, good deal, etc."

"Yeah good eh! Only thing is, it's missing the engine, gearbox, suspension, and it's not actually a Ferrari!"

Ok maybe slight exaggeration, but it seems odd not to mention the cambelt, if only to add context to the OP.

My spend is completely irrelevant. My friend runs the place, in fact I get a bigger discount (established when pricing up the Clio belts and service items) than my friends garage opposite who buy 90% of their stuff from there ;)

Like I said, maximum discount :)

Yet you reckon £60 for a cambelt kit?...then again, you don't know if its 8v 16v petrol or diesel do you really?. Points for effort though mate...
:)

Why doesnt he know that? If I know that, I'm pretty sure that Mike does, given he's more into Clios than I am.

(It's a 1.2 RN 8v, btw - the only engine they offered in a 99 Clio RN).
