Baroness Thatcher has died.

All the left-wingers celebrating the death of Margaret Thatcher conveniently forget the fact that the reason she was able to win three elections was because the British people thoroughly rejected the left wing alternative. The left couldn't cope with rejection and has been whining ever since.

Greatest prime minister this country has ever had. God bless her soul.

The bitter ones are the ones who are still ****ed because she closed the mines; a decision which she got right. Don't forget at the time the mines weren't making a profit and we were effectively paying to keep them open. The miners were also demanding up to a 30% pay rise whilst literally cutting off the flow of fuel - damaging the rest of the economy.

A woman who had the balls to make the tough calls when no one else would. May she Rest in Peace.

Not the thread to argue on here but closing the mines wasn't the only choice. Same with the steel and shipbuilding.

I won't pretend to be saddened by this news, but I can't be as crass as to celebrate the death of another human being either.

All I can say is that if somebody is going to provoke reactions as strong as this (celebration of death) then it just goes to show how strong of a negative impact she's had on the lives of many (mostly northerners).

If she was still around you wouldn't be paying half your wage to benefits. The last 3 Prime Ministers we had have hurt the working man much harder than she ever did.

Jason2 everyone has a right to say what they thought about her, right or wrong it's their opinion.

Of course they do, but posting that you're happy she's died just doesn't seem right in the head to me. I'm trying to approach this from a neutral point of view rather than swaying left or right.

This thread will go, or perhaps already has gone, in the direction of people arguing over whether she was right or wrong and then end up getting closed.

It's amazing how divided a thread can be.

Indeed.

My great grandfather was a miner - I don't see her as a figure of hate. She privatised a dying industry, people need to get over it!

Societies uneducated need to think for themselves before spouting rubbish because an opinion has been passed down from generation to generation.

Being only a mere 29 years old ;) I was never really old enough to like or hate her at the time. Now however some of her grand policies are really coming home to roost, such as selling off the utilities, selling off the council houses, pushing the financial sector and destroying our heavy industry which is making me retrospectively dislike her. She did have the biggest balls in government though!

I blame the intervening governments for not reversing some of her bad decisions even more and making it worse - I really will shout with joy when Blair/Brown kick the bucket!

PS I hope she doesn't get a state funeral, that definitely needs to be privately funded! Joking aside I think there may be riots!

RIP Maggie.

No matter what you think about her, she achieved a large amount, and was our first female Prime Minister - something that mattered more when she achieved it.

You may agree, or disagree with her policy, but ultimately, she achieved more than many ever will, and worked harder than most of the population to get to where she did, and for her country.

As a side point, there's no point posting here saying 'I don't have anything nice to say so I won't'. That's pretty much just as poor form.

I hope the mods keep a close eye on this thread as there will be an influx of blithering mongrels who are over the moon.

Seems that the mods have abandoned the thread. Usually they're pretty good at monitoring these sort of threads, not today apparently?

Not at all. And I'm not going to delete certain posts, they're already out there. Anyone that oversteps the line will be dealt with accordingly.

I've amended the thread title also.

It doesn't have to go that way. People should be able to express their pleasure or displeasure, personal opinions shouldn't be formed on others as it's a highly emotive subject and a divisive subject.

~some will be pleased
~some will be saddened
~some will get on their high horse about people being pleased someone has died.

As long as it doesn't turn in to a tit for tat thread about her decisions then all is fine no? As long as there are no personal insults or celebrations that over step the mark then all is fine no?

Wow, am I the only person who neither hates nor loves Thatcher ?

MW
Nope. My opinion is neutral, despite being 'working class'. I can see through it, some people just have opinions engrained from a young age.

There's absolutely no need for all the hatred, I'm sure she had her strengths and weaknesses like most in power.
