*Batman: Arkham Asylum*

I'm going to buy this tomorrow, which I'm astonished by because it's the first comic/superhero game I'll ever buy but it just looks and sounds so good.

My question, though, is which console is it best played on? I'd prefer to get it on the PS3 but if it's better on the 360 then I'll plump for that instead.

Cheers.

Depends, I got it on 360 because I prefer achievements to trophys, I just don't care about getting trophys because I don't think the trophy system is very good. (yet)

Graphically/performance wise you don't have to worry, both are just fine in that department.

There is some free, extra, Challenge maps on the PS3 version (you play as Joker instead of Batman on about 8 maps) and you also get a "virtual" Batcave in Playstation Home.

There is some DLC due next week, but I think that is on both platforms.

Apart from that, not heard of any specific gameplay/graphics differences, (I am sure if there were any people would have mentioned them in this thread, by now).

I've seen some videos, looks alright you do get some different tools to play with on the predator challenges, but to be honest it looked annoying to play as him, instead of detective mode you have to constantly switch to some glasses instead to get a similar mode.

I haven't heard anyone talking about the joker maps, are they any good? What kind of stuff can you do with him?

8 Challenge maps, 4 combat, 4 stealth. You play as the Joker and he has only 3 (different) items. Specs (like detective mode, but you can't keep them on, game would have been better if Batman was restricted like this), Chattering teeth (I assume like Sonic Batarang) and a Gun with 1 bullet (no idea what that is for).

Not played them yet, until I complete the normal challenges. (1 more medal on Rumble in the Jungle and 3 for Shock and Awe left!).

Hmm, just watched a Joker combat challenge and it's pretty much the same gameplay experience but with different animations, doesn't look quite as good as Batman fighting imo. Will have to find a stealth video.

Here is the Predator one (not embedded it in case it is too spoilerish). Predator mode looks harder as Joker, but you don't have any medals to earn so, easier, in some ways.

Yeah that looks a little better, more focussed on time than type of takedowns. I wish they'd put a bit more thought into the gadgets though, the gun seems a bit dull, the teeth are quite cool though. Also the noise when you put the glasses on may be the most annoying I've ever heard in a game! Personally I'd rather have more Batman challenge maps *prays for the DLC coming up to be good*

Joker also seems to have moves that differ in range/speed etc so to get the higher points you do need to 'work' Joker slightly differently too - doesnt seem just a simple reskin of the batman model with a few different animations for the same moves...

ps3ud0

Some of the fighting challenges are unbelievably hard. Only managed to get 3 medals on Sewer bat so far. I jsut don't see how people are getting the scores they are. Even if I managed to get perfect freeflow and not get hit on every round, I still don't see how I'd get it.

Does it make a huge difference in score to different techniques? IE throw, ground stomp, etc, etc?

Also, hate that I have to button mash in this - e.g. I can see a thug is about to hit me but have to hit the "Y" button several times to make sure he is blocked cause sometimes the timing is just off. Think it's just too much friggin slow mo.

Another annoyance is the % completion it shows you. I though this was for the story mode, so though I still had ages to go, suddenly to find myself at the end of the game - which just felt too easy...

Really is an awesome game though.

Streeteh made an excellent post a few pages back detailing good combat/scoring techniquies, but yes it changes your multiplier and you also get a massive bonus for variation.

Will have a look :)

Don't think I will go for 100% in this game though - mostly because of the riddles. Kind of decided that when I thought would go have a look for them, and when I was where the map was showing me 2 riddles were, I looked for ages and couldn't find a damn thing. I just knew it would be a waste of my life.

It's a pity, as just once it would have been nice to have 1000 GS for a game :(

The riddles are quite easy once you have the maps, although areas with verticality can be tricky (DAMN ELEVATOR AREA :p) it's the combat challenges that are going to stop me getting 100% I think.
