*Batman: Arkham Asylum*

I really turned a corner with critical strikes..

Essentially I used to mash square repeatedly whilst attacking, and switch to triangle when countering. However, I always found that during long combo chains (20+) Batman would sometimes throw a random punch in to thin air and break the chain.

Suffice to say whilst trying the 40+ combo I was getting annoyed :D

...then it hit me. When you get a 5x combo going (might be longer) just tapping square ONCE and pointing in the general direction of the inmates will initiate critical strikes. Doing this you can take out a whole room much quicker.

Also looks cool.

Some of the fighting challenges are unbelievably hard. Only managed to get 3 medals on Sewer bat so far. I jsut don't see how people are getting the scores they are. Even if I managed to get perfect freeflow and not get hit on every round, I still don't see how I'd get it.

Does it make a huge difference in score to different techniques? IE throw, ground stomp, etc, etc?

Also, hate that I have to button mash in this - e.g. I can see a thug is about to hit me but have to hit the "Y" button several times to make sure he is blocked cause sometimes the timing is just off. Think it's just too much friggin slow mo.

Another annoyance is the % completion it shows you. I though this was for the story mode, so though I still had ages to go, suddenly to find myself at the end of the game - which just felt too easy...

Really is an awesome game though.

A multiplier of 8 gives you 3500 points, a 9 gives you 5000. On every first round of a Combat challenge you can get near about 10k (usually 1st medal).

I always do round 1 as:

counter(triangle), 1 hit, cape stun, jump, 1 or 2 hits, batarang, jump, hit, takedown/throw, jump, hit a few times, jump, other throw/talkedown, jump and hit a bit, batclaw last 2 people or so, hit one of them while they are stunned to get batclaw strike, and then ground takedown for the last move.

Sometimes I end up throwing someone out of the ring or onto someone else which, I think, increases the combo by 1 more, and I will end up doing a critical strike as well.

I think the above will get you about 4-6K in normal points, 500 for not getting hit, 1k freeflow bonus and 2000-5000 in variation bonus.

I only have Shock and Awe Extreme left and 1 more medal on Rumble in the Jungle extreme. 2 days ago, when I was button mashing I had much more left to do. The fighting is quite slow paced tbh, so go slowly.

I think I am too old and slow to get things like that right :)

Though maybe with some practice.... will try varying my tactics tonight. I tend to basically stick with block, hit/kick, ground pound and takedown.

Struggle to keep the freeflow on anything past the first round, and hardly ever manage to get perfect knight bonus.

I'm just about to go down the sewer area tonight to get to the croc man, just at the entrance of it, right after the cutscene where croc man kills scarecrow

How far in the game am I? Got long left?

If you time it right and you already have a high combo going then when your down to the last 3 or 4 guys I tend to just use the quick batarang to knock them down then perform the ground take down on them one at a time which can net you a massive score increase. I tend to not use the batclaw as it seems to have a mind of its own when you do the quick fire (sometimes it fires off in the completly wrong direction breaking your combo chain).

Im having prbs with those stupid combos in the challenges, i always get hit at least once, some of my groundpounders for some reason land outside the combo and the counter attack is soo slow i hit triangle and it doesnt counter attack.
Think my best combo so far in the challenge is 30, thats not in the titan 1.

Only 1 medal left to get on Shock and Awe Extreme Got 25k need 30k for 3rd medal. The trick is to use the Batclaw to disarm all the buys with batons early on and always use the Throw power up to throw people out of the ring.

Edit: Done it, all Combat challenges, 3 medals :)

How do you actually perform the throw? The little guide says A + X and a direction (360) but everytime I try it next to an enemy Batman just dishes out a punch.

btw, Really great game

You have to 'buy' the throw ability when you level up and get an upgrade point.

I always use the Batclaw immediately. It's an easy 3 hits and you can usually counter the 4th so almost straight away you have 5x and can grab and throw someone out of the arena (the electric gates in intensive treament = fun), follow that up with some more punches an instant takedown and a batarang and it's time to land some ground and pound.

I found the hardest part was keeping the goons away from the walls and ammo caches, and stopping them cheap-shotting your combos

Congrats on the 3 medals

Finally got the 40x combo achievement last night! :) Also got 16K in round one of rumble in the jungle in that round. Have to say, now that I have done that, I have made the game far more frustrating for myself as I typically get around 3

Have been playing with varying my fighting tactics without much success. Will stick at it for a bit more though.

Ta :) Started the game on hard now and it is so easy :). After hammering the combat challenges for the last week, no enemy seems to pose any challenge. You get clusters of 4-6 to fight at once which is easy peasy compared to combat challenges.

Gonna platinum this today/tomorrow, I think, just in time for the DLC on thursday.
