Batman Arkham City - Thread

Just finished the main storyline. Got loads of things to do on the side as I just ignored them. Took a good 13 hours. Unlocked the game Friday night!

Overall, very enjoyable and a brilliant title. Generally looked nice throughout in dx9 mode.

Does the game "stop" once the main story is finished or does it allow you to carry on with side missions post end game?

Looks like it's littered with side missions and things to do. I will probably do the main line quest and do the little bits after, there's too much to do otherwise.

Very accomplished game, as its predecessor. Doesn't like my crossfire setup, I hope it gets sorted.

£20 for DLC!!

I only paid £18 for the full game.
Welcome to the world of publisher DLC tactics ;) They just announced more DLC as well for 20th December. Jokers Carnival, Iceberg Lounge & an all new Batcave :D

So in all thats 4 DLC packs with predator & combat challenges + additional achievements + additional challenge only characters with various skins. As well as 7 Batman Skins DLC on 6th December. The challenge packs are 560 MSP each or £4.79 on current exchange rates. Batman skins has not been priced yet so it will either be 560 or 800 MSP or £4.79/6.99. All in its around £22 worth but if like me you bought the Robin edition thats 1 less to buy. After the way the PC version was released without proper QA they should let PC owners have at least 1 pack free (I doubt WB Games will do so though).

You can carry on forever but after completing all the missions it just becomes an open world combat simulator as nothing else to do. If you start New Game+ it remembers your upgrades from the 1st playthru as well as progress on the 440 collectible riddler challenges but you need to start some side missions from scratch but the game is completeable without doing them all if your not interested in achievements for doing so. Story only takes around 3 hours to do the rest of the content is challenge maps & side missions/collectibles. All in its around 100 hours of SP content/gameplay.

http://www.geforce.com/News/articles/nvidia-geforce-290-36-beta-drivers-released

The new NVIDIA GeForce 290.36 beta drivers are now available to download. Recommended for gamers diving into Batman: Arkham City , the drivers also add official support for Ambient Occlusion in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Furthermore, a Battlefield 3 fix is included to combat the random appearance of triangular artifacts, a SLI shadow bug is stamped out in Crysis 2, and Settlers 7 corruption is eliminated.

I want to buy this game but after what you said about crossfire not working I might hold off for a bit.

Think I'm going to hold out until DX11 gets patched and can run with acceptable performance. Is there any further updates as to when this might be expected? Find it shocking that it was released in the state it was tbh. Especially so, given the delay. Twice.

I've been fine on my 6950s  only problem's been the DX11 stuff which is unrelated. I had to do a driver update to 11.10 at first to sort out a couple of initial issues, but happy days otherwise :)

Not yet, but the DX11 stuff isnt really a huge improvement as far as I can tell. I've been playing on DX9 and it's a joy :D

Only non-subtle difference i noticed between the two was the massive framerate

I had to turn off dynamic shadows in DX9 to get it at a constant 60fps. Was around 40-60 with crossfire 5870's with dynamic shadows for some reason. Don't like my fps jumping like that.

Anyway, like I say I waited long enough for this so hopefully the patch isn't too far away and solves the majority of problems.

I will give dx9 a go, but I can't get crossfire working in dx11, and I get massive stutters. I'm running 11.11 (the latest auto update).

How do you find enough goons in one place anywhere within the game to manage such high combos?!?

With my crits, i'm 2 hitting a lot of the goons as soon as I hit a 10/15x multiplier, then I run out of goons to knock out.

Specific points in the campaign.

Not out in the streets randomly.

The fight where Joker joins in was the one I got 100x with Batman on. And the bit just after you kill Joker, play as Catwoman and go after Twoface is the bit I got 127x on.

With the new beta drivers the DX11 stuff still doesn't work.

With 32x AA and DX9 I get 55-60FPS all the time.

With 32x AA and DX11 I get 30FPS when standing still, but if I moved the mouse it would drop to 2FPS.

With no AA and DX11 I get 60FPS when standing still and if I moved it dropped to 15FPS.

Also MSI OSD is showing that it's using 4294967296% of my GPU
