Batman Arkham City - Thread

Is anyone else having freezing in cutscenes, the game will play ball for hours but a cut scene more than 10 seconds in to one and it freezes my whole pc with a sound loop, really frustrating and I can't work out what it might be.

Also MSI OSD is showing that it's using 4294967296% of my GPU

I get that.

And the new drivers do nothing to stop the stuttering you get when PhysX is set to high, even if I dedicate a GTX 560 to PhysX.

It's got to be the most pointless thing in the world. A GTX 560 dedicated to PhysX sits there doing bugger all for most of the game other than running up my already expensive electricity bill. Then when the game calls for it to do it's party piece, and it stutters and coughs like an asmatic chimney sweep using about 25% of the processing power available. Only to produce effects that could be done CPU side because that's clocked at 3.8 GHz, has 8 threads and sits there doing just as little as the GPU that's already failed to do it's job.

In fact the whole game never uses more than about 50% of anything availablr to it in my PC while I'm playing yet can still drop frame rates enough for me to notice.

delay for 5 weeks for "polishing"

My arse.

Some guys with body armor need to be 'dazed' with the cape move ('b'), then beat the living brown stuff out of them bashing 'x'. But I think that's later in the game. The normal dudes, you just beat them up, it takes a while.

That's a way to get bigger combos btw.

And I get much better, more consistent frame rates without DX11 on crossfire.

Game is unstable all the time if you only use 2 CPUs it will be better but I had 1 cutscene I had to skip it would never ever go past it. Just hit b on the controller twice to skip I think.

This game is optimised for Microsoft's DirectX 9.0C, a dual core cpu @ 2.5GHz is recommended. There are known sound issues in windows xp and 2 gb ram is ok but more memory results in smoother playing experience, this is from the read me file.

Since Batman is based on a modified Unreal Engine 3 graphics engine, by default Frame Smoothing is enabled, and the values set keep the framerate between 24-62 FPS by default.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/11/23/batman_arkham_city_performance_preview/HARDOCP - BatmanAC - 24-62 FPS cap

I have tried this and i have seen an increase of 60-70 FPS in places on default settings.

Started this last night, it is alright so far.I get a bit of stuttering otherwise it is ok.

Much like the first game though, i still think the movement and camera are a bit clumsy. Also, though i really liked the first one, I did get a bit frustrated at how linear it was, hopefully this will be better in that respect.

Oh and one thing that REALLY annoys me in games which has been happening in this so far is when you get different conversations overriding each other, a couple of times i have began to overhear a conversation between to henchmen only for The Joker or whoever to also start talking as part of the story which means i can't hear either of them:mad: VERY anno.ying

woops wrong thread :o

Really loving this game so far, every thing maxed out (apart from physx and dx11 and AA set to 2x) at 1080P, running very smoothly, only minor parts where there is a wee bit of micro stutter, put that down to the game though, graphics are much better and lighting is very good.

The combat feels great and enemies seem to go down a bit quicker than the last game I find. Love the multiple counter attack as well! :D

Story so far as expected is great and a great intro, although thought it was a wee bit silly the start that no one caught on:

that bruce was batman as he easily took care of them whilst in handcuffs! More so surprised penguin didn't realise that considering he was leeping from building to building etc. without the suit, lol

And quite nice breaking the game up a bit with regards to playing as cat woman.

At first I wasn't keen on the open city, but starting to like it more now.

Currently I am on freeze/penguin part now in the lab just after run in with joker for first time.

Can see that this will take me a long time to fully complete as some of the tasks (riddle challenge) I don't have a clue how to do yet! :o

After the way the PC version was released without proper QA they should let PC owners have at least 1 pack free (I doubt WB Games will do so though).

Funny you mention QA as I've just finished the game and for some od reason watched the credits. There must have been about 150+ peoples names listed in the credits associated with QA, not just from Rocksteady but from Nvidia and Warner Bros. I have no idea what must have gone on there but for that amount of people not to find any of the problems you'd expected them to be receiving a P45 in the post after this fiasco.

Still none the less was an enjoyable game but no end of useless dlc is going to add any longevity to this game, same as the first.

I'm having fun, it is pretty much exactly the same as the first game, i like the Catwoman bits too. It is a repetitive game though(as expected tbh) so i have to play it in little bits really.

Getting great performance in DX9 mods as well.

Those credits are just for the console versions I think Nvidia do the QA on a TWIMTBP title but obviously here they dropped the ball. The game was obviously rushed out after 2 delays for thanksgiving in US now the waiting game for the patch(s) which according to someone with GPU contacts @ Anandtech its going to be within a week & is down to a know DX11 bug which will make us all happier how they release a triple aaa PC game with a known DX11 bug

A lot of PC QA on games is outsourced nowadays (usually to somewhere in canada/far east where labour rates are much cheaper) more often than not the companies doing this do not get credit for it either so no way to know who did what.

Doesnt Hugo Strange know that Bruce is batman? that was the whole point of having him arrested at the start... In one of the cutscenes Im sure it proves this

EDIT: If I remember correctly he says something like "its much easier to catch bruce than to catch batman" not word for word but you get the picture

I started playing the game last night. I dont seem to be able to play the game smoothly with all the settings totally maxed out. its not unplayable, but there are some noticable slowdown moments. Guess its cause I only have one 3D card, when maxed recommends having two. Guess just below max graphics will have to do :p

I restarted it and dropped from dx11 mode to dx9 and it still stutters a bit.

I think I might leave it a while to see if it gets patched.

Same problem. Widespread looking at the amount of threads online about it.

Particularly bad when gliding? It only drops from 62, to 57 but it feels MUCH worse.

ATI user?

I am running ATI EF 6048x1200 and DX9 is an awesome experience. Even while turning in the city streets, I do not get stutter.

DX11 on the other hand... sheesh!
