Batman Arkham City - Thread

Only the Steam version had save file issues the Origin, GFWL only versions work just fine in DX9 since day 1!

Wrong, all versions have the save issue. Retail and steam versions, even the xbox 360 has save issues, the 360 patch is still in testing. Not everyone gets it though, some people never get it. Some get it when an achievement pops etc.

EPIC FAIL

The great news is that the patch is now being uploaded to our digital partners servers, this process may take a day or 2. However it means that the PC patch will be avaliable for you to download this week.

Thanks
SarahMay

We're chasing this now,as soon as we hear it is live we will let you know.

SarahMay

We are just waiting for the greenlight, we need our patch to be scheduled in alongside any other content that goes live today (for other games).

SarahMay

Hi,

We remain confident the patch will be out this week. We have the wrapped files back and are checking them.

SarahMay

Hi all,

We have received word back that the patch is now waiting to be put live on STEAMs servers, due to server scheduling we have been advised this is likely to happen tomorrow.

We will confirm this tomorrow.

SarahMay

Hi,

We believe the G4WL patch may be a day or so later but are waiting for confirmation, apologies for the inconvenience.

SarahMay

Hi all,

We are sorry to inform you that unfortunately the planned PC patch has failed one of it’s final technical tests and therefore we are unable to upload it at this time.
We have been working round the clock to generate this patch and to release it as quickly as possible, but the one think that we will not do is send out a faulty patch that will only create further technical problems and frustrations for you. Upon encountering this problem we have immediately set to work to fix the patch and will have more news for you regarding it’s release as soon as we know it. Once again we apologise for this further delay and thank you for your support and continued patience.

EPIC FAIL

I'm not sure epic even begins to describe this farce. Already uploaded to Steam servers, waiting to be released - oops, no, the patch failed entirely and we will never release it nor was it uploaded to any servers, we'll start working on it asap, promise!

Give it few weeks and the message is this: they have begun on working on a new title and unfortunately can't give any more post-release support to Arkham City but they are always looking to improve their post-release support in the future.

Still waiting to play the game I pre-ordered six months ago..

I heard back from ea and wb about my activation issue and apparently it's cropped up with quite a few of the origin sales since the 50% deal started. Good to hear the patch is still broken, I'm still waiting to load it up.

Are you really going to risk it? Sod that I don't want to lose my save :)

To be fair if you back up after every play it's not so bad. I went through the savegame loss twice having got to a very high completion level (~90%) so i certainly know the pain. :p

Third time round it was backups every single time and i finally completed the damned thing!

this is £12.49 on origin atm, im tempted by it but are there still problems with the game? saves etc?
also, is it wise to wait for the GOTY version to arrive instead or is the DLC pretty weak?

Saves problem only applies to the Steam store exclusive Steamworks version or pirates who try to run a hacked version. Origin version is fine as long as you stick to DX9 only with no PhysX for now its perfectly playable & 100% is possible.

DLC is good if you like combat/predator challenges as thats all it is plus a few new challenge maps & new characters (852 challenges in all including the main game). Nightwing DLC is the best of the bunch but each DLC pack includes news maps/characters/moves.

For £12.49 its an almighty bargin considering its £39.99 on Steam (which is a broken saves version).

Just want to add that I have put in over 100 hours on the retail version (same version as Origin except for the dvd check) & never ever once lost any save data so AFAIC its 100% rock solid & stable. Some trolls like to state otherwise but its simply not the case as long as you use a GFWL online profile like your supposed to & not avoid registering the game!!

Again this is wrong, you lose same games on all versions of the games, Even the retail disc versions.

Pirates don't have the save issue as they use an offline profile so GFWL does not hash the save.

This is all false and you know it, not EVERYONE gets the save game bug, only a few. IF YOU HAVE A PIRATE VERSION YOU WILL NOT LOSE YOUR SAVE. Pirates win again, offline profile = save game is fine. It is the ONLINE profile that is the problem, the way GFWL was coded in and the way achievements pop. If you get an achievement do not exit until you have gone somewhere and let the game save again.

I will say it again, not every single person gets the save bug, so you are one of the lucky ones. Stop spreading rubbish before reading up on it.

can you backup save games from windows live though? just incase it does have a wobbly.

thanks awpc, so the dlc are just challenges then? nothing added to the story?

Nope no story DLC all challenges only. The actual main story is only around 3 hours long (less if you know what to do) but there are a huge amount of ingame collectibles/riddler puzzles etc etc then the 852 combat/predator challenges (less challenges if you do not buy DLC). You will easily get around 30-40 hours minimum out of it & 100 hours plus if you want to 100% everything so value for money is excellent.

But yep you can backup the savefile its called: save0.gsd & stored in:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\WB Games\Batman Arkham City\SaveData\GAMERTAG NUMBER ID

As long as you use the same gamertag you registered the game with & do not change the name of it all you need to do is keep a copy of that save0.gsd file its really that simple & only a 289kb file at that so tiny. There is a load of misinformation around about how BAC is a savegame killer but that only applies to the Steam version as it uses both GFWL & Steamworks & Rocksteady did not do enough Q&A on that. All the other non Steam versions are just fine. As I said earlier I put in over 100 hours on 2 different PC's (just copy that 289kb file across) & even had crashes whilst the game was even saving (before the first patch fixed the issue causing them of hyperthreading CPU on 32 bit OS) & never ever once lost any save progress of ingame data.

Just PM me if you need any help but I am sure you will be just fine anyway ;) Rocksteady may have a patch later this week which fixes DX11+ PhysX slow FPS but I am not holding my breath for it anyway! DX9 looks pretty good anyway DX11 adds so little this time anyway your not missing much.

What on earth is wrong with you?

Hi,

The save file problem has occurred on both retail and STEAM versions of the game, but not everyone has been affected. Fixes for it are included in the patch.

SarahMay

Did you not read anything I said? You need to stop spreading wrong information about the game.

They've just released the patch, all 135MB of it. Won't have a chance to have a play with it tonight as it's a bit late now.

Release notes:
We have just released a patch for Batman: Arkham City PC that provides fixes a variety of DX 11 issues, as well as fixes for a few other non-DX 11 related issues. The DX 11 fixes will apply for the majority of players, however, some specific Steam users will experience issues when running under DX 11.
With this latest patch, Steam users with the following Windows Operation Systems should avoid running the game under DX 11 until further notice:
- Windows Vista 32 bit
- Windows 7 32 bit
Users running Windows 7 32 bit or Windows Vista 32 bit should ONLY use DX 9 settings until a future patch that addresses this specific issue is released. We are actively working to address the remaining issue tied to DX 11 for users running 32 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7.
Major fixes that this patch addresses are listed below.
- Performance / hitching issues have been greatly improved for running in DX 11.
- An issue with players running out of Video Memory or encountering a Rendering Thread Exceptions has been address. This was primarily affecting 32-bit Operating Systems.
- A progression block after defeating Ra’s Al Ghul has been fixed. This was issue occurred primarily on lower end computer setups and described as Batman not readying his Reverse Batarang.
- A crash that occurred when scrolling between the Character Bios and Arkham City Stories has been fixed.
- A crash that occurred when selecting “Press Start” immediately when available at the Title Screen has been fixed. The issue was described as crashing/hard locking around the DLC (Downloadable Content) check.
Thank you all for your patience.
