Battalion 1944 (ww2 game )

I haven't played Battalion yet, but it looks way too fast and twitchy compared to how my rose tinted clan day memories of vanilla 1.4 patch CoD was. My youtube suggested I watch a phantasy CoD video (mp_railyard) which seemed to be modded with sprinting and a silly reticle when you shot someone, so if they've based it on that sort of experience then I'm not surprised some of the original cod players are a bit confused.

I never did Cod 2, it was a console mess of horribleness (my god the maps were awful). I'd echo the above posters comments about how no-scoping rifles seem to be over powered, and this is coming from someone who only ever used rifles for a good old 1 shot kill. Its not the fact they are a 1 shot kill, can't put my finger on it from watching the footage. The accusation of large hit boxes is something I label at the new cod's, but I don't think Battalion is guilty of this.

Meh....maybe I'm just old now.

That said, I think the games looks a lot of fun, I hope it does well.

Its great to see they already taking on feedback and ready to update/improve the game. They will never please everyone. Wartide game mode is getting much needed improvements, while I like the mode right now I do 100% agree with the community feedback.

Post Beta - What We've Learned

Thank you for a nostalgia filled beta weekend! Despite beta bugs, our players were gracious, understanding, and supportive of Battalion's bright future!

Battalion 1944 is coming to Early Access on February 1st 2018 at 17:00 GMT we hope to see you all there day one!

If you enjoyed beta and buy the game on day 1, please leave us a review and help get Battalion to the front of Steam!

Beta Overview

Overall the beta was a huge success! We were able to test match making with large numbers and expose the issues. Our opinion is bugs are a good thing, because it means we can fix them. We cant fix things we can’t see. There were definitely issues, but we’d like to remind everyone that this is an early access game and to remember ANY game at release, not just early access games. As far as Battalion’s stability goes, it was very good for an early access game. We’re now committed to preparing for our first major update: The Stability Update. You can read more about our roadmap here: www.battaliongame.com

We saw some incredible fragmovies over the weekend, and we’ll be regularly sharing some of our favourites in our Steam Updates. Along with weekly highlights from HattonGames!

few clips i gathered during the weekend, not much but atleast its something games insanely good, cant wait to start competing when early access comes out (1st february) https://www.twitter.com/elwzoy

And finally, congratulations to “DRUNKKZ3” for being the highest competitively ranked player on Sunday, when we tested our elo rankings. He played an impressive 25 games in just a few hours!
Now it’s time for some updates and changes we’ve made based on the feedback from beta players.

UPDATES
M1 Carbine – Ironsight Update
As usual, we debated this change internally before we even reached beta. We wanted to see how the players felt about the M1 Carbine before we went ahead and made changes. Players often said they found the default classes powerful with a high skill ceiling however, the ironsight on the M1 Carbine was regularly commented on as being invasive and ‘in the way’. It wasn’t a lot of work to make that change so this will be in for Early Access

Coastal – Lamppost Jump Balance
We all love a good jump spot, so we didn’t want to remove this one that players found. However, we did want to make it more fair. We’ve removed the first tree, so that players are not shooting through a tree. We’ve also removed the railings from the top of the arch, making the player in the jump spot much more visible than before. The route you take to get on top of the lamppost is the same, but now you’ll be more exposed and visible than you were before. Do you think this is a good compromise?

Wartide – Future plans and Intentions
We’re very aware that Wartide is needs tweaking. Our biggest issue with Wartide is that it is a negatively progressing system meaning; you are always losing cards instead of a positively progressing system like Counter Strike where you are constantly being rewarded. You are not the first to identify these issues; luckily, we anticipated balancing issues back in November and began work on designing improvements to the mode. Yesterday on the Monday following the beta we made the decision to pursue our improvements. Whilst we aren’t prepared to disclose what they are yet, we are happy to say that it is a big rework of Wartide, but the core value of team shared economy and physical pickups will remain in the mode. However, there are many juicy details we will be holding back until our first major update…
It’s important to mention that we NEED people playing the mode in its current state so that we can gather the data and balance what we currently have. The additions will come in due time, however we need to make sure we see the positives and negatives of the existing system playout, before we make any large changes, the same way any major studio would. Rest assured, the devs are on it.

We saw a huge amount of people play the game over the weekend. First and foremost, we’d like to apologize for underestimating how many people would want to play the game. Battalion is a lot bigger than we’d expected, which is an AWESOME problem to have! But we’d like to explain some of the matchmaking issues below and how we intend to fix them, just to keep the community in the loop!

Issues; be aware that most studios don’t acknowledge issues publicly. We’re doing this to let you know that we are making improvements and keep the community in the loop. We ask you remain patient with us as we work towards improving the game

Players not accepting matches
25% of the time, when a player alt-tabs back into Battalion during an accept period, the accept button will not show. Resulting in players not being able to hit accept. We are working to fix this

Not enough servers
We have two types of servers, that Bulkhead and Square Enix Collective pay for. Bare Metal & Cloud based servers. The bare metal servers are literally sitting there, ready to go. However cloud based servers have to be requested from our server provider ‘Multiplay’. These cloud based servers can take sometimes up to 10 minutes to allocate! (Usually 3-6 minutes) However, during beta we saw issues meaning they weren’t correctly being allocated. Not only have we fixed this, we have also improved the way we allocate servers and we have also ordered more bare metal servers, so that players won’t have to wait to be assigned servers, EXCEPT during peak times. Once the game settles, we'll be able to predict exactly how many servers we'll need during peak times.

Server locations
Currently, our match making does not detect the best location for all players in the match. It picks a server and that is it. This is something we are working on, but it takes time and we wanted to get the game in players hands before we continue work on improving server detection. Currently our EU Servers will be based in Luxembourg, a central location for Europe. While the US will have one location in in West, Central, and East. We’re also adding servers in new regions, this will be announced soon. Server locations will be improved and is only a temporary measure as we roll out Battalion improvements over the next few months.

So thank you for continuing to support us, we're actively working on improving all aspects of the game, yes. Including animations!

See you on February 1st!

Good to see they're being realistic and open about the changes needed, especially to Wartide.

I'll happily be putting my £12 into this the minute it's available.

if you played cod 2 or watch the phantasy cod 2 rifles video i posted a couple of pages ago you will see how cod 2 was. i like you mainly played and had servers for cod 1 / uo. played it to death still my fave fps games of all time. i was in the >Mugs< clan. you may of played on our servers :p

railyard was a great map i know what mod you talking of also there was no sprinting in cod 1 you swapped to pistol . sounds like a awe mod.

while i get what you saying cod 2 was also big for many people. i prefered the original games before cod 2 but i did like rifles.so played it a lot for rifles only. the rifles were one shot kills. so you had to be fast and accurate and tactical.it was never meant to be a arma or red orchestra one thing i never get when people try and compare or bring realism into arguements.

so battalion is very accurate to how cod 2 was.

i dont think everyone will love battalion it will favour better players but that is no different to csgo or any other game that can be played competitivley .

i wish cod 1 uo was remade but i cant see a massive audience for it as you had to be more accurate but you need sales for games to get made and if you think about it battalion / cod 2 works probably better across gaming platforms. so more sales so makes sense.

the game is great fun and the pricing is right at £12. that price alone should make it very popular. still think why cod never just made a re released cod 2 game.could have tweaked cod 2 and stole the thunder with little work.funny thing is cod 2 is still not that bad looking.

will be interesting to see if battalion make a modern warfare game or dlc to complement cod 4 :D

There's a very good chance you'll see modders making a CODUO style mod for Batallion considering the devs are happy to support modding and encourage it and there's already plenty of requests for some of the old vanilla CoD & CoD 2 maps both the original maps and the modded ones I wouldn't be surprised if eventually we see everything the original 2 had

also for those that want a competitive game similar to cod2 and cod 4 promod.

My supervisor at work played CS: Source competitively in the past, i told him about this game, he checked it out and he's bought it, so you're not wrong there as he was waiting for something like this to come along.

Changes to Mid-Air Accuracy
We’ve acknowledged that beta players felt the time to kill was to low and that corner strafing/jump peaking was too common. Previously in Battalion, weapons were 100% accurate in the air. We have now added another layer of depth to the game, to reduce the amount of ‘flying around corners’. Whilst this is still a valid strategy, it should no longer be always the most optimal way to approach a gun fight. This effects the snipers & kar98 most of all. For an amount of time when a player is in the air, they will no longer be able to hit perfectly accurate shots. This change is ONLYapplied to horizontal movement (X & Z axis), if you stand still and complete a regular vertical jumpshot, you will retain 100% accuracy. This change has been applied to the following weapons at different levels of inaccuracy.
  • Kar98 Sniper (Extreme)
  • Springfield (Extreme)
  • Kar98k (High)
  • STG44 (Medium)
  • BAR (Medium)
  • Thompson (Minor)
  • MP40 (Minor)
Have to say I'm not a massive fan of this change, there's something hugely satisfying about hitting a shot with a K98 mid-strafejump - removing the accuracy takes away something that made Cod2 rifles (& the Cod4 scopes) so fun to use.

I didn't play the beta as much as i'd hoped, but it was very enjoyable. Seemed a bit easy to pin the other team, but i'm sure this is an issue they will resolve.

The changes make sense, i've not played enough to feel like I have enough of an opinion to agree/disagree....etc

What I do like (and they could just be talking bs) is that they seem to want to build the foundation before anything else, something I feel is absolutely key, even more of a shocker is that I find myself completely agreeing with everything shanks says on this! :p

Tbh I do kinda agree with the change. The Beta was far to easy to pull of this level of shot, I think it needs to be more skillful.

well phantasy did highlight in cod 4 promod that when you jump through the air and pull the shots even on target it didnt always get it right.

will have to try it more to see how if fairs.

what ? i didnt play it on pc :p you do know i was involved in many of the biggest clans in cod and people who ran the leagues and platforms to do with cod :D

had servers for cod 2. played it on clanbase, twl, edom. you may not know that so it doesnt really matter. dont need to debate about playing cod.

server prices for dedicated servers are up now not to bad.

https://www.multiplaygameservers.com/game-servers/battalion/

maybe have a ocuk server or two.

You know dg I don't think you ever really played COD2 on the PC, so will leave it at that.

People could say the same about you :P not only did you get the game types wrong you're one of the only (if not the only) person who thinks battalion has no resemblance of cod2.

Now I agree the maps have nothing in cod2, but the movement, gunplay is pretty like for like. Probably more so with the recent changes, however will need testing.

64 players on mohaa used to be great, EVO server, The Hunt map on Objective.

Will be nice if there's some good clan servers to join apposed to just match making all the time.

YES. I'll be watching this closely.

I have just reinstalled COD2, I forgot how good it was despite it being quite old now. Still lots of players and great fun and all works perfect in 3440x1440, 100hz :)
