*** Battlefield 1 ***

How dare they make games, films, books or other forms of media that have anything to do with historical events
.....

I'm not going to decorate my living room like a nazi party rally, and celebrate every death on screen. Its a bloody game!!! Seriously what is wrong with people these days.

Cant wait for this, just hoping the trailer and be replicste2in the main game.

 really !!!

I understand what happened in the Great War and it was far from pretty. But if you don't like that, don't buy it.
I take it that means you won't subscribe to the podcast :p I get that it's just a game but don't understand why the developer felt the need to open this historical can of worms other than in the interest of lining their pockets. There is nothing tactically or strategically glamorous about this war but I bet EA are hoping it makes some sick kill streak videos on YouTube.

I think it appalling that not only are a games company going to make money off the back of the unmitigated human catastrophe that was the first World War, but that people will even enjoy playing it.

I recommend anyone who wants to play this listens to Dan Carlin's historical podcast series "Blueprint for Armageddon", a brief and engaging history of the war - if they can enjoy the game after that then they are messed up.

Might I suggest you stick to your podcasts and leave fun to the professionals? Video games clearly aren't for you.

Hilarious. I hope you enjoy the game about millions of people dying tragic painful deaths while I play other games that aren't so morally vacuous. At least I'm getting considered responses in the PC games thread.

I'm slightly less interested in a WW1 game than I was an alternate WW1 game. Will have to see some gameplay as well first.

Stringy: War isn't nice. So you could accuse ANYBODY that's made any sort of media about any war as doing it to line their own pockets.

Meanwhile the rest of us are able to separate the reality of historical events from their various presentations solely as forms of entertainment.

Is this a wind up?

Just received an email about this and really it sure what to think. The last good WW shooter was COD WaW which I loved. Will have to wait for more trailers I think!

D Day was horrific for those involved. Thousands died taking those beaches. Their sacrifices were made in the name of freedom and their country and paved the way for the liberation of occupied Europe. Those casualties would be the first in many millions more during the liberation of Europe

And yet battlefield 1942 and Medal of Honor allied assault were some of the best games we've ever seen.

This forum obviously isn't for you. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Mate - seriously I would never say I'd condone all the deaths and casualties from real wars but there has been hundreds of games based on real events in life such as WW2, drug trafficking, modern wars and even total war games depicting battles from many centuries ago. doesn't mean we all think it was right, its just media and video games. I take it the dam busters is an offensive movie?

Or the world war in colour documentaries from the history channel? Or was COD 1 or COD 2 offensive as well - as they sold in the millions. Sadly, we love to re-live past events - even people recreate in huge fields past battles for pleasure and for history to re-live these events.

A game based on WW1 is no more offensive then a game based on WW2 or a game based on a potential future war in space like the new COD game due this year.

I do understand WWI was a dreadful war, but then so was WWII. But I still play the game knowing its not meant to be offensive - its just a game based on a historical event.

Trailers with no gameplay do nothing for me anymore.

If my experience with recent Battlefield titles has taught me anything, this won't be in a playable state til well in to 2017 and it'd be better for my pocket to wait for a cheap deal on the Premium bundle.

Thank you for the intelligent and considered reply, lacking in any sarcastic tone or 'witty' remarks to sign off. I'm going to agree to disagree (seemingly with everyone) on this topic, just the money grabbing utilsation of WWI as an entertainment genre when it had previously been more or less left alone doesn't sit well with me.

I'm out, feel free to continue to poke fun and slate my opinion as I won't read it.

Every game is a money grab, they aren't doing it for charity.

I would imagine you're the type that rips into games like GTA whenever someone goes on a rampage, because you know, it's all the games fault.

I take it you don't play any games with violence at all then? Given how many people are shot and killed every day, surely it's wrong to kill people in video games? You must feel awful playing GTA. How about games like CoD & Battlefield which simulate war, do you feel terrible playing them because loads of people have been unnecessarily killed?

No? I thought as much. Please take your pity party elsewhere, your double standards are not welcome here.

From a single person. One. Not two or three, one. Singular. Just thought I'd point that out. I suspect the rest think you're an idiot and haven't bothered responding. Sadly I am unable to resist, despite sharing their opinion.

You don't get to play the victim card when you set the tone for the discussion in the first place by acting appalled by our "morally vacuous" taste in games and other entertainment.

Is this a wind up?

Must be. We all own products that people get stood on to make. Trading their sanity and health for cheap western world electronics etc. Can't see how someone could get upset by a game while the stuff they own is at the expense of others less fortunate.

The fact that he's gone to the effort of posting in both the PC and console forums says a lot really. Bored child syndrome.
