*** Battlefield 1 ***

You should know by now that at the end of the day, that isn't going to change and things are only going to get worse especially when big AAA titles like this are involved.

Yeah if people continue to throw their money at developers/publishers who do this yes.

There should always be official servers for those who want the broad range of the experience and you can rent your own - though if a map is so hugely unpopular it isn't included on most server rotations you might struggle for active players - but then it probably empties servers fast when it does come up so its a bit of a lose, lose.

Which they are/will.

One thing to remember is that the consolers won't be complaining at this, so immediately PC gamers are in the minority, and people wonder why it keeps getting dumbed down.

I wouldnt be surprised if at some point in the series it just doesn't get released on PC anymore, it would save them a fortune in development costs and I can't see them even trying to cater to the pc market anyway.

It isn't actually that bad - most of the headline games at the moment the PC player numbers are similar to the xboxone and a bit behind the PS4 - though the combine console numbers are 3-4x higher than PC.

Whilst in South Africa yesterday, I purchased BF1 ultimate for 1349Rand (£70), when i got home from my short trip it's shown up in My Games and My Orders but is marked as "processing". Anyone who've done similar trips know if is this is normal?

I might not be as old as you but I am old enough to have also played all the BF games so I'm fully aware of PC gaming being consolised more each year. You should know by now that at the end of the day, that isn't going to change and things are only going to get worse especially when big AAA titles like this are involved.

As I said, I tried to avoid the official servers because of the retarded balancer and as you touched upon, no admins to handle cheaters.

Again... I don't want all control eliminated but there has to be some limitations to avoid this ****:

8M2PUSuh.png.jpg

Fast vehicle spawn breaks the gameplay completely (especially for air combat, which is a big issue if you have "pro" players on), especially on bf 3 when the vehicles are so OP. I'm pretty sure DICE didn't intend on having the attack heli, jets etc. up 24/7...

I also paid for the game and I want to play certain maps i.e. tehran highway for sake of argument but... I can't find any server that has it in map rotation so what do I do? Just accept that because some guys/clans paid for a server that I have to play what they want despite them not actually being the developers/publisher/owners of the game?

Would server/clan owners seriously not rent a server just because they can't:

- change the spawn speed for vehicles to instant
- have only 1-3 maps on rotation
- add an auto kick for VIPs
- exceed 2000 tickets
- add some ridiculous k/d limit of 1

?

I think as long as they can do everything else i.e. name their server, kick/ban/spectate people then the majority would still quite happily get their own server.

Again... I don't want all control eliminated but if DICE are keeping custom servers then they need to start adding limitations to what server owners can do.

And as i said they are servers that have a community base. This is getting hard work.

Those servers are full because they are clan/community run.. Which means they have forums where the community/clan discuss what type of server they would like the most.

They then all chip in with money towards the:

Server
external server for procon scripts
forum
domain name
full access to pbscreens.com

the list goes on.

They are paying a lot for it so why the hell cant they do this.

Again why would a community pay for a server they can have little control over ? they wont which will leave us with loads of official servers and very few dedicated ones.

They are renting that server because that is what their community wants.

It probably took years and years for those guys to build up a community where they can still keep a BF3 server populated.

If they were unable to do the things they are doing do you really think the server would be full with the same set up as every other server ? (no)

There are still communities playing BF2 BF2142 (well soon anways) quake old cods you name it they are running because they can mod it how their community wants.

I have a little cod graph i am doing for you showing what happened to the COD community once it fell under the console control police.

Nexus, that pic, what are you highlighting from the server list?

And that is precisely why it won't change :p Too many people play the mugs game of pre-ordering and are happy to bend over for companies even when the game is released in an awful state or/and they have been lied to completely i.e. no mans sky, watch dogs, far cry 3, ACS unity etc. etc.

See that is the problem...

"though if a map is so hugely unpopular it isn't included on most server rotations you might struggle for active players"

Most people in bf now choose the crap spammy maps i.e. lockers because you just get all your **** players that want to sit in a corner and get a good k/d with high points... I'm surprised that there weren't more metro bf 3 servers on my list as last time I checked I had about 6 3000+ ticket metro servers with at least 7 people in the queue lel... So much for the BF community being all about the vehicle warfare and big open maps eh? :p

I don't mind some maps being removed as you're right with regards to people leaving when a highly unpopular map comes on, I just hate seeing a ton of servers only putting 1-2 maps on rotation, which are "usually" something like lockers/metro.

So much for the BF community being all about the vehicle warfare and big open maps eh? :p

Probably a good percentage are COD refugees who prefer COD4 style gameplay and given up after MW2 and BF3/4 CQB maps are about as close as it comes any more to scratching that itch.

And as i said they are servers that have a community base. This is getting hard work.

....

Again, I am not wanting servers with no control.... As already said, it would be an awful decision and I am fully aware of the damage that it would do to the BF community.

I am just saying that if DICE/EA allow custom servers, I would like to see "some" limitations put in place with what has already been discussed....

Once again:

Would server/clan owners seriously not rent a server just because they can't:

- change the spawn speed for vehicles to instant
- have only 1-3 maps on rotation
- add an auto kick for VIPs

If server admins aren't happy that they can't do the above then afaic, good riddance to those clans/owners.

Probably a good percentage are COD refugees who prefer COD4 style gameplay and given up after MW2 and BF3/4 CQB maps are about as close as it comes any more to scratching that itch.

I wouldn't even consider lockers/metro to be satisfactory enough to scratch that itch I would much rather play hardline or/and battlefront :p

Once again:

You sound very nieve. If a community want a 24/7 locker server (which i hate) that is their choice because they are paying for it. You are not forced to play on them are you ?

The image you put up of those BF3 servers is an example. The people are playing on what they wanted and paid for. If you get rid of that then the BF3 player base as it stands would drop through the floor.

which would then kill off BF3 totally.

I get you see it as a bad thing but my point is you do not have to play on such servers.

Again it is the community that that server has built up which makes this game special.

Take that away and you have no clans no communities which this game was orignally designed for.

This is when the console control Police got stuck into COD

Now some decrease will be due to same old game year after year. But i can tell you as soon as activision removed (real) dedicated servers PC gamers had enough.

Back then there was a massive out cry but maybe now the younger generation will just say "oh well that's the way it's going".

To be fair, its not just the younger generation that will say 'oh well thats the way its going'. I've been gaming for what will soon be 4 decades and I also have a oh well thats the way its going attitude. So its some of us old folks too :D

I guess i am stuck in my ways. I just never thought Dice would go this way. They gained so many players from the COD community with what they did to their PC player base.

How about we set up a SOF2 server together and just have a laugh :)

Nope but the problem is most of the BF community are brain dead considering the amount of locker/metro servers thus I and the other BF veterans are left with crap server choice therefore it is affecting us in some way as we are left with poor server choice for various reasons and as a result, it has killed the game for myself and others, maybe not the majority but it is still extremely frustrating.

Again, I am not doubting that not having custom servers will majorly affect the game community and longevity although for COD, I'm sure that there were a lot of other reasons for the declining player base i.e. no dedicated servers at all and relying on match making thus cheater galore, same rehashed game (which actually got worse for everything) etc.

In fact, just having a look at the stats site for bf 4 and hardline, there are more console players (not combined) than PC players despite consoles having controlled/fixed servers

And battlefront has more players on console than PC too and the servers are fixed/controlled for all platforms.

Only BF 3 on the PC platform has more players online than consoles but those are the old gen consoles so I am sure that if bf 3 was on the newer gen. consoles, we would probably see more console players there too.

So surely if custom dedicated servers did play a big part in an active community and the reason for there still being a player base on PC, wouldn't the numbers for all the above games be considerably less on console and much higher on PC?

EDIT: As for quake, 1942 etc. I would say the reason they are still fairly active isn't just because of custom/modded servers but more so because of how pivotal they were in PC gaming era.

And this just came through:

Time to rip the game apart only for them to not listen again... :D :p

Just received an email to do a survey "Share Your Thoughts on Battlefield 1"

Dis gonna be gud. :D

Pretty much said in the options what i thought,The game was crap.

I like how they didn't ask if you were intending to Pre-order or buy on release :D..That would have been a FAT NO.

I do totally get what you are saying. I never enjoyed the type of servers that you described but they are there and it gives the game a player base.

You seem to think if those servers were not there that they players on them would play on normal servers. You have already called them brain dead so they wouldn't they would run off to something like dirty bomb.

I have already spokn to a few fairly big EU clan leaders (who run pretty normal servers some with sniper limits on hardcore and so on) and they have stated they will not be renting servers.

Think about it. These servers will now be supplied by EA there is no way in hell EA will allow an admin of a rented server to kick/ban anyone (forget badmins for a minute) so it will be very similar to official. Stuck in game with a cheater which has to be reported to EA to investigate :(

It is strongly rumoured that people that rent a server won't even get a choice of what 3rd party company is supplying it.

I get your hate for certain servers but, if EA.DICE are actually going down this route it is sad times for PC.

bad time to have a mid life crisis. thanks EA :(

PS on my way to the survey to let off some steam :)

You're beating a dead horse boys. Despite having a few good games with Haz the beta was not enough to make me pre order. I tend to agree with others here that the guns are not as fun and the gameplay is a little lacking. I wonder if this will go the way of SWBF and Hardline?
