*** Battlefield 1 ***

I don't have the new DLC. Can someone enlighten me please?... New character on the intro splash screen - bird or bloke?

I don't know whether this is my PC or the servers, but on some days I can play BF1 multiplayer and it will be perfectly smooth and the perfoverlay CPU and GPU graph will be extremely smooth on all maps and I'll think that I don't suffer from the problems mentioned by others in the thread. On other days, such as yesterday, this graph will be a spiky mess on all maps resulting in lots of stutter and yet I haven't changed anything. Surely this is an issue with my computer as server lag shouldn't cause the graph that monitors CPU and GPU performance to go crazy, should it?

I have an I7 [email protected], a Palit GTX 1080 and 32GB RAM. I have big stuttering issues with the Witcher 3 since getting my 1080 and 1440p Gsync monitor BTW (this is mostly resolved by exiting the game and going back in). Other games are fine and when BF1 decides not to misbehave it's probably the best performing and smoothest game that I own.

I just solved my very similar problem tonight. I changed the frame rate limiter to 60FPS (to match vsync-on and my 60hz monitor). This instantly stopped all random stutter I was experiencing on Amiens. It was a solid 60FPS after that wth not a single drop. I wasn't expecting this to work as I assumed Vsync would have taken care of all that. Apparently not.

Anyway, I imagine if you have a 120hz+ monitor it might not work if you then want to limit frames to 120fps. I have a feeling that the stutter is related to the CPU choking whilst trying to keep up with the GPU or something.

Lol, so apparently it's a lady. I was struggling tbh, the farmer's fingers were making me think twice.

I wonder how long before there's some kind of drama about having or not having "non binary" gender characters in a game. I seem to recall there being some drama about one of the cod's bringing in female characters, and then with bf1 you had those other tools bitching about NOT having female soldiers on the initial release.

The reason there was no Females in the initial release of BF! was simple, they were ironing the soldiers uniforms, that fact seems to fly over the heads of some feminazi's.

:p

So now i've got 30 hours in this, these are my thoughts...
  • Too much fog, a little weather effect is good especially when random, but the relentless clockwork-like fog is a pain in the arse.
  • Balancing is the single worst of any shooter I've played, been in countless games of 32v10
  • Poor medic class, the majority of weapons are so difficult to master that it drives people away from using what was one of the most used classes. Some weapons don't even have enough ammo per clip to down 2 enemies.
  • Distinct lack of trenches.
  • Poor DLC, ignoring any performance issues some are having the maps are generally poor, they're all pretty much the same, some snow, some hills and some run down buildings.
  • Fairfight is absolute garbage, go back to PB. Yes it catches those with a 200:1 K/D, what it doesn't catch is those using damage multipliers and wallhacks. I've seen more 'hackers' in this 30 hours then I had in the previous 500 hours of BF3/4.
  • An overall lack of weapons, most classes have 3-4 base weapons and a further 3 variations of that weapon, OK I know there wasn't vast amounts of weaponry at the time but it feels like little effort was put into it.
  • As cliche as it would have been, this game would have been better suited for WW2 era, christ they could have just used BF1942 as a base line.
Overall I'd give this a 7/10 on the MP side, I'll continue to play for now and see what happens in the future. Its quite embarrassing for Dice that it has so many issues given the **** storm that was BF4's first 18 months of life.

I absolutely HATE the fog, its the one constant weather effect that crops up on just about every map time and time again, in the server options there's actually an option for "always fog", so presumably someone at dice has a huge hardon for this gimmicky weather effect. On empires edge 9 times out of 10 when one team gets the utterly useless Dreadnought behemoth it rolls in accompanied by fog, so torpedo boats can sit close by and hammer it to death inside of 5 minutes hidden by the fog.

Regarding the WWII setting, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what Dice have planned for the next game, so that's probably why they wanted to do WWI this time around. Plus it's not been done in a AAA game before AFAIK.

Funny, I've got some of my best scores, best KD ratio and highest amount of kills using the medic class. If you haven't already, try the M1907 and the 8.25, plus the new Fedorov Avtomat is dangerous once you get used to it. The support class is the one I really struggle with. Other than the BAR variants and the Huot Automatic I find a lot of the guns awkward to use, particularly in any close-range fights.

Agreed the fog can be a complete PITA, it does always seem to roll around when a juggernaut is in play...

Personally, I found the medic weapons difficult at first but after some practice, I love the Cei-Rigotti & 8.25.

I personally like the medic weapons but you need to stay at medium range, they aren't very useful at close quarters.

Selbstader 1916 has 26 bullets per magazine and my aim is terrible so that's what I like using :D

Issue with the Rigotti is it takes too long to reload.

Mondragon have as a faster reload speed.

EA are now looking into the EU BF1 server lag problem.

I just wanted to say thank you very much for submitting all this information - I'm sorry if you're experiencing issues, since we all love to play our game in peace and running perfectly smooth.

Unfortunately I won't be able to give you an instant update about how things are, but be assured this information is collected and forwarded to the relevant department.

So no ETA at the moment, but wanted to give you a quick update and state that this thread and information you submit is indeed helping!

Hope to see you on the Battlefield soon!

I'm not saying that the medic class is absolute garbage, just that the learning curve for predominantly single shot rifles deters people from playing as medic, such to the point when I've been medic, almost everyone skips back to the spawn screen giving no time to revive.

The Federov is a good fully auto rifle, but man what a grind to get it, something like 50 kills with the rigotti trench. The auto mode on the Rigotti is pointless too, first shot hits, then sprays in any direction apart from the target :p

Enjoying support quite a bit, MG15 LW if I'm on the move, lewis supressive if I'm held down, backed up with an ammo box and HE mortars.

Yeah DICE acknowledged it in the battlefield_live subreddit. It's European servers (I checked with several knowledgeable EU players to make sure it wasn't UK only), and it may be specifically the ones hosted in Ireland (Which means it's Nexus's fault).

Update:
DICE_jjju_ said:
The game netcode is ok. It's just the server machines can't keep up with the player demand. I guess for now if you have such issues just look for another server.

This means one of 2 things:
1) An admission that whichever part of EA is responsible for running the servers has been cutting back on the resource since the release (when there were ~4 times as many players and the lag wasn't that bad.)

2) The updated DLC maps consume a lot more server bandwidth (CPU/memory) than the old maps and therefore the number of instances of the server than can be run on one piece of hardware is less (You may get lag while playing an older map because other server instances on the same hardware are running the new map and consuming more resources..)

Or maybe both..

My guess is either under spec'ed severs or a network issue either capacity or traffic management. Unless they have accidentally ruined the games netcode but the US servers seem ok.

It used to be fine until now so something has changed.

Got to love using the flame thrower elite and dying because a bayonet charge can propel them through the flames to stab you, get the kill and survive.
