Battlefield 3 RETAIL Performance Thread

Running 2x6870s in CF and an [email protected] and i'm getting around 80FPS average with most settings maximum (MSAA off) 1080P

However, the game just 'feels' laggy, I can't put my finger on it. I did have real bad stutter using CAP3s but now they're gone it's much better. Also tried the CAP4s but they were pretty terrible for me also. Using the 11.10 preview 3 drivers.

Doesn't seem anywhere near as bad in single player, in fact it runs pretty much flawlessly. In MP though, it feels laggy, like input lag, hard to explain.

I'm hoping it's not the realtek sound card punkbuster issue that plagued Bad Company 2 :(

I have just manually set the fan speed on the card so will see if that makes any difference.

I get a looping sound lock up (brrrrrr type sound) and have to reset my machine.

I only got BF3 installed last night but it played no problem. Late to the party but I've been away since Thursday.

I was getting those type of lockup's on BFBC2 and it took me a while to sort the problem out. Even clean install's of various versions of Windows 7. Every time I thought I'd sorted it it would BSOD.
I finally sorted it last week.

I'm running 6870 crossfire setup.
The problem is software the monitors temps etc in the background while the game is running. Apparently these conflict with Punkbuster and the game locks the computer solid.

I use MSI Afterburner to set a fan profile on my system. The only version that doesn't crash my system is version 2.0.0 I've tried all the others including the latest beta and they all crashed the system.

If I use the latest version of GPUZ 0.5.5 this crashes the system as well.

I reverted back to Afterburner v 2.0.0 and Fraps 3.4.6 last week and played for 3 hours with no problems.

Had a couple of hours last night on BF3 with the same software running.

So if you are getting BSOD with the sound looping try turning off your monitoring software and see if the game runs ok.

I found allot of supposed fixes, ill post them up in a seperate thread tonight unless someone beats me too it, such things include dropping memory speed and some custom movement config as well as others, might be worth a punt

I'm also using Afterburner (latest beta as I'm checking VRAM usage), everyone else with lockups also using Afterburner???

I don't have any monitoring software running. :(

Saw my dad playing this a bit last night - 460gtx 768mb

Game kept hanging for a few seconds every so often, then would carry on as normal.

What dirivers? Ive gone back t o 285.38 and stuttering/sudden drops have now stopped that were happening with the 285.62 drivers

Exactly the same here. I've also turned hypterthreading off, so dunno how much that has impacted the overall gameplay.

How do you turn that off. Working fine now though so might just leave it.

Yeah if it's fine just leave it I guess. But you can turn it off in the BIOS. Can be named "Hyperthreading" or "HT". Just have a look around the CPU/Chipset settings. :)

If HT is causing problems I'm surprised they didn't add an option in the config files/screen to ignore the logical (Hyperthreaded) cores, there used to be in WoW you could tell the game to use only Cores 1,3,5 & 7 therefore it didn't automatically choose 1,2,3 & 4 (in which case you'd have 4 threads spread across 2 physical cores in stead of 4 physical cores).

That's what I'm getting, pair of 5850's at 775/1125.

Think I could tweak the settings at all? Getting stead 50-60 fps, gets a bit choppy when it gets busy though, not often. :(

My spec is in the Sig..

I am getting the odd stuttering whilst playing this... not sure if its lag within the game or dodgy drivers... Is there a quick and easy way of finding out ??

I had the HT issue, stuttering in game (not particularly massive but certainly noticable). Having turned HT off, its got much better.

Most likely both mate, things are still being sorted it out.

Well, had it running beautifully on Friday/Saturday with all ultra, 2 x MSAA and no Post AA, and V-sync enabled.

This is at 2560x1400. There was very occasional stutter, but nothing problematic and fps ahrdly ever dropped below 60.

Then, I was having some other issue with my drivers at desktop when pc started up, and had to re-install drivers. Fixed that, but my performance took a dive. Tried all sorts, and finally had to resort to not using the hdmi for audio.

My setup was such: I connected my gpu to monitor using displayport, but used the hdmi out for 5.1 sound to my receiver. Windows and ATI have no way of specifying that this hdmi connection is for audio only and not both video and audio, and so though had 2nd desktop, even though 2nd was not used. Been running like this for a bit without hassle, but now suddenly giving issues yesterday.

If I just use the onboard spdif out, performance is back to normal again. Very smooth with settings above.

But I want my 5.1 sound back :(
