Battlefield 3 RETAIL Performance Thread

Daaaamn, I'm still getting horribly long load times between maps, often accompanied by a black screen freeze on map start or a crash to desktop.

5850, tried drivers and reinstall, clock speeds, no luck so far.

Final 11.10 is out today, though its just a whql of rev3. Amd are seemingly aware of existing bf3 issues and working hard to sort it, so I wouldn't be surprised to see 11.10 cap1 out inside this week.

Why below stock? If his card crashes at stock (if it is actually his card causing the CTD), then there is definitely something wrong with the card

I dont have any probs with other games just this so made a profile on afterburner just for this game.

To be fair this game puts more load on gpu than a stresstest:eek:

I'm having major lock up issues and having to hit the reset button. Anyone using a 5870? If so have you had to reduced your core speed?

Saw my dad playing this a bit last night - 460gtx 768mb

Game kept hanging for a few seconds every so often, then would carry on as normal.

Ive had a few lock ups on Crossfire 6970's.

Temps are fine on both cards and CPU, possibly a driver issue?

I'm hoping it's not the realtek sound card punkbuster issue that plagued Bad Company 2 :(

I have just manually set the fan speed on the card so will see if that makes any difference.

I get a looping sound lock up (brrrrrr type sound) and have to reset my machine.

I get the same, I also get a black screen with a few lines near the top.
This is with Crossfire 6950s (low temperatures), using AMD Catalyst 11.10 Preview Driver 2. (No additional caps).

What sound card are you using? Not on-board is it by any chance?

I've been using my 5870 on it's own last night since i had better performance running it on max settings than crossfire, was a bareable 25-35fps, even smoother with motion blur turned off.

All weekend i've been trying to run this game on max with my current setup, i'm getting very close.

PS: I also read that forcing v-sync and triple-buffering on in CCC and turning v-sync off ingame makes the game run better, something to do with the v-sync in BF:3 not working properly.

For what it is worth -

I have crossfire 6970's + Asus D2 Xonar sound card.

I had terrible issues with the in game video options. When I set Ultra and any kind of AA traditional not post. It would hang the game and then it would take 3 -4 attempts to start the game again with it just sitting on black screens etc.

I switched of AA - installed the latest cap 4 11.9 app profiles and running preview driver 2.

Not had any issues since. Starts up every time. The only thing I would say is I had to dial back my overclock on the GPU's by 20 mhz as well which stopped some crashes.

If you are overclocking your GPU's dial them back to stock to test and see if that stops your problems.

I'm using a 5870 @ 1ghz/1200 and the lowest i get is around 40fps on caspian 64 man, average fps depends on map but it's usually around 50fps i would say.

My settings ingame are all set as follows

Everything set to ultra except for shadows and textures (they cause major slow dows and stutters as 1gb vram isn't enough)

Deferred AA off .

Post AA on high.

Motion blur off.

AF 16X

HBAO on

FOV is set at default as i can't get used to 90 for some reason.

Tesselation is set to 2X in CCC, all others left at default settings.

Onboard audio.

11.10 preview 2 drivers (preview 3 caused BSOD's, crashes etc.)

Does that actually do anything? I know the 5000 series are pretty crap at handling tessellation, and i would be interested to know if it improves things by setting it to 2x.
