Battlefield 3 RETAIL Performance Thread

get afterburner and check gpu usage while ingame, brother had the same issues with his 5850's on a tricore at 3.5ghz, gpu's were only being used around 40-50% problems went when he got an i7 and now both run at 100%

should also ask if your on a p35 board or not?

Yeah, suspected it.
Just a shame/strange that I get absolutely no gain from the second 5850 in BF3.
yet on 3D mark 11 my gain is 100%, Metro 2033 almost maxed playing nicely and Bad Company 2 maxed.
Guess I can't compare a benchmarking program and these games to BF3.

GPU usage with one card is 90+%, with crossfire they average not even 50% each.
VRAM usage goes from about 900 with one card to 1800 crossfire.
Oh well, heat even with an aftermarket cooler prevents me from really getting anymore from my B3 Q6600.

hi all. the game is a bit jerky for me and i wanted to ask your advice.

im running a phenom 2 940 @3.4ghz
4gb 1066 ddr2 ram
6950 1gb

Im running it on my lcd tv (75hz) upstairs at resolution 1280 x 1024 getting a solid 75 fps but it feels really jerky. it isnt when i play it in 1680 x 1050 downstairs its smooth.
Is it because my philips tv is a widescreen and at 1280 x 1024 its stretching it to fill the screen or something like that?
I want the pc upstairs away from the kids but dont really want to change my monitor. surely if im getting 75 fps it shouldnt be jerky should it????

Maxed out with a 5870 on my 20" Samsung Sync Master @ 1600x900, had to dig it out again as i want to run this game on max.

BF3 uses more CPU than 3dmark and the games you tested i would say, leaving nothing left to power the gpu's. I'ts a bit crap tbh cos i was going to get another 5870 but it looks like i will need a new cpu too :(

you never said what mobo you were running?

I have a massive problem where my 560Ti and i5 @4.4ghz run every game at max settings at 1680 x 1050, the beta fine too.....but not the retail version. I have tried various drivers and rolling back. You'll see it goes all weird and tries to catch up on itself, really annoying and means I can't fly anything or drive anything. Nor can I play big maps.

It starts with my trying to spawn... and it not responding, but catching up. Then when I shoot the gun you can see what happens.

Mostly happens on larger levels or when I come into contact with a vehicle - mostly of the flying variety. Then goes nuts when I try to respawn.

Any ideas? Settings are at high, with no HBAO, AA, V sync. Have tried a mixture and these settings run most of the other maps with only some stuttering, but still ruining this game for me after spending so much on my pc already.

Would changing the overclock make a difference maybe?

I would try a clean install Booner, it might be a few corrupt files causing it.

Does this mean downloading it again? or can I uninstall and reinstall?

Try the uninstall/reinstall first, also it might be worth just temporarily resetting your overclock just to be sure it isn't anything to do with that (overclocked memory etc).

My friend bought a ATI 5570 1GB GDDR3 and it runs at the "low" setting, 1920*1080 at a constant 30fps. He's got an i5 2300 and 3GB of RAM. If he ran it at 1280*720 I'm sure he could hit 50fps.

I have a ATI 5830 and I run the "medium" setting, with 2*AA, 1920*1080 at around 50fps.

Sorry, didn't want to leave a huge detailed message, did that on another forum!
I have a P5Q Deluxe with 8GB RAM.

Anyone tried the game on a GTX 460 1Gb version? Is it playable at 1920*1080 on high?

Rest of the system is i7, 6GB ram, SSD

With a bit of overclocking it should be playable at a mixture of High and medium settings. At the same clock speeds a GTX460 is around 10% slower than a GTX560TI so use that as your baseline from reviews.

I've got the preview 3 + CAP4 installed.

Currently stuck everything on low with max AA/AF (still looks awesome) & running at 60fps constant (according to Fraps)

But the game feels very jerky like it's skipping frames? Is this a known issue?

Thanks for the help Spooky.
Think I'm gonna try remove the second card completely, and see if it reduces the strain on my CPU/PSU even more than disabling it.
Then try get steady settings in BF3.

Try 11.10 Official ATI with latest CAP.

Made all the difference to my 5830.
