Battlefield 3 RETAIL Performance Thread

I'm also getting microstuttering on GTX 480 1.5GB, I've opened GPU-z, checked VRAM usage on that and it wasn't even close to my limit. Got it on preset High. How weird.

Can't get it to launch (black screen) with trifire enabled, single card is fine. This is with all drivers/combos, i.e. 11.9's with/without CAP3, same with 11.10 ver 1, 2, 3.

Love having spent money for it to be useless :D F1 2011 no xfire support at all, Rage no xfire support, BF3 no trifire support?

:(

Running on the settings below.

Gpu's at 750/1500/1674, averaging about 80fps with the odd dip down to the mid 60's, feels a bit stuttery, max vram usage going by afterburner is just over 1200mb.

which cards have been running BF3 better ATI or Nvidia?

Both about the same from what I've read so far, although there has been reports of stuttering with crossfired 6950/70's.

We experienced stuttering and jerky behavior with Radeon HD 6970 CrossFireX. I wouldn't say that it is "MicroStutter," it is outright "stutter" or a "jerky" feeling as you play. As you move through the map you can see and feel that it is not smooth, not consistent, and you can visually see this as you are walking. There is a lot of straight line walking during the first few minutes of the map, and it is very easy to identify and breaks the immersion of the gameplay. We started with the GTX 580 SLI and experienced smooth gameplay, and then when we installed HD 6970 CFX to compare performance the constantly laggy experience was immediately noticeable.

The jarring behavior is so bad that it is distracting to gameplay, and is not a configuration I would use if I were playing BF3. After having used both GTX 580 SLI and 6970 CFX in this first mission, I can easily say GTX 580 SLI is the better experience and what I would use when playing. AMD has a lot of work to do with CrossFireX, while the performance is there, the smoothness and consistency is not even closely competitive with SLI configurations. Now, it could be a simple in-game graphics option that is causing the issue, but it is something we will have to look at closer as we play the game more.

Im playing at 2560x1600 ULTRA settings and getting solid 60 fps (vsync on), But did have to increase page file and Vram is on the limit.

Could do with 12gb of ram and 3gb gtx 580 cards :D

Quick irrelevant question: I have a ATI 5970 and BF3 struggles at ultra (or high with AA) at 2560x1440, i'm considering upgrading but can't decide between a few different cards.

3GB GTX 580, 2GB 6970 or 6GB 6990?

That game doesn't use more than 2.5GB RAM according to Windows Task Manager, how much memory have you got? I've got 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz

Im also playing at the same resolution and was wondering the same thing. I have a 5870 at the moment along with 4gb RAM and a Q6600 @ 3.4 ghz. My worry is that my card does not have enough VRAM for this. If thats the case, same question as you, what card should i get :)

I get micro stuttering only on the big outdoor maps like Caspian Borders, it cant be a VRAM issue because it uses the same amount of VRAM as other smaller maps like Siene Crossing.

EDIT: If I lower Texture and Shadow to Medium the micro stuttering goes away but VRAM stays the same. This has to be a crappy driver issue.

I have got 6gb ram.

I think it's more I'm running out of Vram rather than system ram.

I get incredibly bad stuttering every couple of seconds but vsync completely gets rid of it. I have no problem using vsync as the game smartly triple buffers it allowing it to stay at 60 all the time with almost minimal input lag. However, minimal means its still there. Its Much sharper without vsync which is quite annoying. I hope they get rid of the stuttering via newer drivers soon.

Is there an fps cap command for this game?

xfire performance appears to be ****. :( Loads of fps (80-110 easy) but bad stuttering. So far I've tried 11.10 v3 with and without the cap3 and it's pretty much the same, maybe slightly better with cap3 but still pants. Vsync makes it worse and it seems to be worse on the bigger maps. The one in Paris that isn't metro seems to be fine. Most likely crappy drivers but I'm not ruling out problems server side. It'd not VRAM because it does it when VRAM is not at it's limit.

I suppose I'd better try 11.9 next.

Wolvers try the 11.10v2 and cap 3, that's what I'm using and it's smooth as butter:
Running lovely here, everything on max @1080p:

6950>70 Crossfire@950MHz, 1350HMz, +20% power tune, [email protected], 16Gb mem, Crucial M4 128Gb for the OS and a Force 3 for BF3.

11.10 Preview 2's(preview 3 gave me issues with other games so I went back) and cap 3

Simply sublime, lowest I've seen in mp was about 58fps to the highest about 140+ fps, very little to no screen tearing as well!

Performance shocked me to be honest, I wasn't expecting this kind of fps!

I tried the v3's before BF3's release but I was getting loads of issues in other games and youtube was causing the horrid bluescreen.

I put the v2's with cap 3 back in and not looked back.

If you try it, let us know as this could be useful info.
