Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

I'm trying to understand the way skill level is calculated. I was at 284 skill level the other day, went on a server and got 29-4 in around 10-15 minutes and it went up to 625, i was like 'wtf?'.

The skill rating is BS, imo. It seems to mainly just be based on K/D and SPM and doesn't really take into account caps or plants.

It's nothing to do with your KDR or score per minute.

The game keeps track of yours and everybody else's skill rating. Kill somebody with a lower skill than you and you won't gain any skill.

Get killed by somebody with a lower skill than you and you lose skill rating. Kill somebody with a higher skill and you gain skill.

It's based on every encounter you have with other players

As for good, 500 appears to be good, 1000 is insane and higher than that usually means they are hacking or never die because they just road kill with the MAV every game and sit in the uncap all game

it was voren1, but Matt & I nuked him in our chopper :D

Hehe yep. We took him down.

*TLDR Accidents can happen, sometimes the wrong person gets kicked.*

The kicking plugin i have on the server can be a little problematic at times. You have to type in a command.

Ill give you an example.

Lets say that Jimlad was talking about a rendevous with my gran (shame on you jim:p) and as a result he needed to be kicked in order to protect my grans privacy i would type !kick Jim dissing my gran. The server would then ask me did i mean to kick Jim? I wold then type @Yes and he would be kicked and the kick message displayed in battlelog. However sometimes it picks the wrong person. If someone was playing called Jimothy it might have kicked them instead. So sometimes you have to type in the whole name.

I'm not feeling any love from CommanderRoot right now. I won't lie to you, it hurts.

You are coming across as petty. If people are donating in droves then matt must be doing something right with his server. Maybe the 'offical' servers need to do better.

ok think of it like this sas , tfu other clans have servers as busy as matts hes labled his server as "the official server" for bf3 . so its not his server is doing well its that thousands on here who play on his server because of ocuk could generate him a lot of money ;) . more than what is needed to cover costs which is profit. no clan or group on here should profit from the advertising of this forum really.

at end of the day you all have your own op but like said 30-40 quid a month and 200 plus a month is a lot of difference for running a server that many others already do on here to same standard or higher.

hes done a good job fair dos ive done it myself many times .

also thats why i suggested that if the donations are a lot higher than expected or needed that he could something else ,maybe rent few more servers or something else which the extra would cover.

as for the " official servers " if the ocuk proper servers were manned by people who knew what they were doing and marketed and managed right i dont think matts or many others on here would get a chance . maybe in the last few months more pressing things have been in the mind of ocuk apart from free game servers they have .

blah blah back to bf3 :)

i don't see a problem as people are aware what they are donating and the totals are easily accessible it's not like he's hiding anything, so in theory he said £90 had been made which should cover another 2 months which is handy cause not everyone can donate all the time. Some people might just make one off £10 donations.

Are servers subject to minumum contracts periods?

Some are and some aren't.

I can see where DG is coming from, if donations were setup so that there was a limit, say £40 for the month. Once the limit was reached then the donations wouldn't begin again until the following month, etc.

Worst case scenario would be Matt receives £300 worth of donations, the server costs £40 a month.. That's seven and a half months worth of costs paid for, whats to stop him cancelling his contract and doing a runner after the 1st month?

I am NOT saying that this is the case but simply saying this would be the worst case scenario!

Once I get paid I'll happily contribute a few quid towards the server as it's by far the best I've been on so this is in no way an anti Matt post :) He's doing a great job and I hope it continues for a long time!

would have liked Bronken to continue but think the majority hated BF3, there were too many admins and the servers changed settings pretty much every day to try and keep the things busy which probably wasn't the way to go about it. If things had continued well then we were planning on rolling out a subscription service through vBulletin which allowed people to pay a certain amount a month which was a recurring thing until the user decided to cancel it their end. Something like that would work quite well I would have thought.

On the other hand, if he splashes out on another 3 servers and the donations stop, then he's going to be up poop creek!
