Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

Apparently this is taken from the article:
-Aiming for CY Q4 2011 release
-Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
-Frosbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written
-Lighting sounds neat, one "probe" contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.
-Level destruction is going to be "believable" but basically everything is destructible.
-Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.
-AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets
-No more "gliding" animations that look off, animation realism is a focus
-Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
-Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats
-Plan on better, more immediate post release content
-More unlocks than BFBC2
-Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having "pink rabbit hat(s)"
-4 classes
-Will talk about squads "later"
-Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it
-Will have co-op
-There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off
-BF3's team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2
-They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.
-Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah - Iraqi Kurdistan.
-"****" will be used often, so M rated for sure
-There will be an earthquake in a level. The destruction sounds very impressive. 7 story building collapses, looks very well done
-Significant narrative that goes with the SP mode
-More than one setting, you're not in the middle east for the whole game
-PC version is lead version
-Why 64 players for PC only? No complains from the console crowd.
-No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?
-Original story, not based on Bad Company at all.

So far the signs seem good for BF3 but I really want to see some gameplay footage. I hope they havnt dumbed it down for the console kiddies.

Well they keep claiming that the PC version is the lead version, so we'll have to see.

I hope they give an equippable knife, not this BS quick knife OMGLOLLUNGE.

Indeed, knife battles in BF2 used to be the best, purely because they were so hard to kill someone. Part of me will be happy with BF2 style maps re skinned in forstbite, but hopefully they do make this a propper follow up to BF2. Great year to be a PC gamer this year !!!

SOURCE: GAMEINFORMER + SCREENS + DELETED DEV TWEETS/BLURBS

Assault:
Assault Rifle
Sidearm
Ammo Box
40mm Grenade Launcher

Engineer:
Shotgun
Rocket Launcher (Stinger is in, Carl Gustav also makes a return)
Sidearm
Drill
Anti-Tank Mine

Recon:
Sniper Rifle (Key mentions include scoped M14EBR, HK91,
Sidearm
Binoculars (For instant spotting, not used for artillery strikes)
Motion Sensor

Medic:
SMG
Sidearm
Medkit
Defib Unit
EpiPen (Instant revival of a recently killed squad member, carry 2 per life)

EpiPen, Motion Sensors, AT Mines, and 40mms replace your standard grenade (Are not used with the same key as grenades, of course)
LMGs are all-class, slow movement speed, and give you no sidearm. Rather than having high RoF, high mag capacity, and high damage these are all balanced between each gun.
Semi-Automatic rifles (all-class) include the G3A3, SKS, QBZ-95, and RFB
Shotguns will be Engineer-specific (No more Recons running around with an AA-12)
Prone involves losing your hip-fire crosshairs, and taking longer to reload, switch weapons, and ADS.
More personal/interactive equipment - One device allows you to patch into the enemy team's voice chat line and listen in (Obviously useless if nobody is going to talk)
There is also a server option to only enable faction-based weaponry for both sides, regardless of who has unlocked what.
Non-scripted destruction system (Rather than scripted chunks being removed from bullets/explosions, you have more choice in what breaks. Shooting a large circle through a wooden wall will result in the intended circle.)

More rumors.

As im so excited for this game after waiting YEARS iv just read all 12 pages of this thread to see what you all think :)

My thoughts:
The magazine pic does indeed have a HUD and like you said, if that is a screenshot...where in for a REAL treat. And yes, a littlebird or a UAV

Here is what i would like to see:
64 player map
Map packs free
Mod tools
Destinations (Paris, New York & Karkand) being multiplayer
Responsive controls like BF2 for aircraft
Hit reg of MoH/BC2 carrier over and improved upon if possible
Faster movement, run means run, not jog!
Anti-cheat upgrade/reporting tool
Download matches to social sites and edit
Spot enemies (if i spot an enemy any player friend or foe within 5 metres can hear my voice where as any one further than 5 metres cant. Friend players get the enemy on the mini-map)
Friendly fire to be off to avoid annoying pricks who do it just to annoy everyone
Kill cam - optional, player preference

How:
Everything being totally destructable, does that include rubble from fallen buildings that people tend to hide in? Can we shoot/blow up the rubble their hiding in?
Everything destructable, say goodbye to frag fests.

Anyone got thoughts on these?

One other thing, you know where people winge about paying so much for a ps3 or xbox360 game, well what about pc gamers, not only do we pay about £30-£40 per game but we got to pay HUNDREDS of £'s to upgrade Hardware. If there were no pc gamers, where would computers go? Businesses sure but they wont need the spec of a gaming pc!

What is meant by this? Won't that much information make the game run like a mouse through glue for anyone not using an i7?
