Thanks for those graphics setting. The multiplayer runs so much smoother now and I can barely (if at all) tell the difference from my previous settings.

I'm still **** though. Just went 1K-17D in a Conquest game.

Also, just looking at my stats, my skill rating is -185.8 (yes, minus 185.8). :p:o

I'm far too gung-ho. I need to rethink things and maybe try a a change of class. It's just so frustrating at times when you're sure you've got a kill only for nothing to register. :(

Just keep at it Fozzy, loads of people have had thousands of hours of practice. Between BF2142, BC2 and BF3 i've had about 800 hours practice (and come to think of it about 400 hours Joint Operations before that) and that's nothing compared to some people

And i still can't fly the jets or helicopters!!!

Joint ops, now there is a classic. Imagine that remade on a modern engine. One of the finest online fps games ever. Flying in jo had a fantastic control system, and the range of vehicles was very good.
 
For people coming from pads to keyboard and mice I think there are two really important things to do:

Make sure you have decent buttons for your weapon and gadget switches. It will be much easier than reaching for the 4 and 5 keys when you need a med pack or defib. As an example (although I am left handed) my keys are:

Shoot = Mouse 1
Nade = Mouse 2
Jump = middle mouse
Primary weapon = scroll up
Secondary weapon = Q
Gadget 1 (defib) = scroll down
sprint = Mouse 4
gadget 2 (medic bag) = Mouse 5
Aim down sight = (hold) CTRL
Melee = ALT
Make the map big = \
Change weapon mode = caps lock
Crouch = v
Change to vehicle seat 1 = mouse 4
Change to vehicle seat 2 = mouse 5
Spot = F

The other thing I find helps is making sure you get your mouse sensitivity right. For this I would jump on an empty server. Find somewhere with something to aim at and practica just shooting something as quickly as possible.

For example in CZ I used to stand about 20 foot away from a large box and repeatedly try to shoot different corners of the box as quickly as I could. If I was finding my mouse would go past the corner I was aiming for I would decrease the mouse sensitivity by a bit and if I wasn't aiming across far/fast enough I would increase it slightly. I do this until my wrist naturally flicks to the exact place I wanted to aim. Then you found your sensitivity :)

One other thing I do is put the network smoothing factor right down and enable enhanced stereo in the audio options.

I also have recently started playing low GFX settings and find it helps despite playing on ultra at decent FPS before.

I know what you mean, I've been there.

If you have premium, reset your stats and start by playing on some 16/32 player servers to get used to the game & how it works.

What mouse & k/b d you have?

Those buttons scare me. And I thought I had a weird setup haha
 
Just had my worst multi-player experience so far.

I played on a server called '[WBKS] Gaming#01 - Metro - NoRules {3000T/NoobMagnet/AllWeapon}'.

All sorts of strange things were going on. So many players on my team were just shooting at walls making words with the bullets. Others using their blow torches to make faces on walls.

It was also just a really dull conquest game. The other team were just content on camping and taking out anyone who tried to leave the building. That's all that happened for over an hour.

Loads of people got booted for cheating. Also, my 'Q' button kept flashing towards the end of the game as if my key was stuck. I couldn't do anything to stop it. I may well stay off BF3 over the school holidays. :/

I was really enjoying the game up until now. :(

I've not got premium. I'm kicking myself really as I got BF3 for £10 when I could have got the whole Premium for £20. I wasn't sure I'd enjoy it enough to get Premium.

I'm just playing with a crappy Logitech generic keyboard and cheap Gigabyte mouse. They're not to blame. I am. :)

You've only witnessed what 0.1 % of the population of players is like.

I absolutely loved JO and played it long after all my mates had stopped, we used to drive jeeps out of chinooks and jump out after they hit the ground. Awesome fun!

I once played against KIA in an comp - they were unstoppable. I'd totally be up for a big LAN if anyone organised it.

It's funny but I kind of expected BF3 players on PC to be less like this. Playing on PS3 you get a lot of dumb kids on but I guess i just assumed to have a decent gaming PC you needed to be more of an enthusiast, therefore more sensible in game. Guess I thought wrong :rolleyes:
