Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

Cant get on any servers as I just keep getting the error "Display driver has stopped responding" Running 12.8 drivers but never had any issues with them since I installed them a while back

It won't sort out any connection issues, but is there any reason you're not using the latest drivers?

Just never seen the need to upgrade them as they have always ran games pretty well, don't like chopping and changing drivers for know reason

Fair enough, but 12.11 onwards gave a pretty big bump in performance.
That's a pretty good reason, right?

Get yerself on 13.5 mate. Use driver fusion to quickly remove 12.8, and then install 13.5. Sorted!

I used to uninstall from add remove programs then use driver sweeper is driver fusion a better way now then?

Any of you lot find that playing BF3 on a 120Hz monitor makes much of a difference? I'm thinking of getting one.

It's just quick and easy. Don't worry about the 'you must buy the full version to remove EVERYTHING' pop-up

Either way works. If you want to use add/remove and driver sweeper, then go for it

Tbh, some just install new drivers over the old ones with no issues.

EA/Dice really should have fixed this by now. Some servers seem to be running ok others are laggy, poor hit reg, and failing to connect to servers etc.. It's a joke.

the auth servers won't affect server lag and hit reg. Those will be down to the server provider rather than EA / DICE.

Hi Kissenger,

I recently (about a month ago) upgraded to the BenQ XL2411T and I've enjoyed the game so much more. I feel like I can play for longer to due to my eyes feeling more relaxed looking at the screen.

It's hard to type the experience really, but on an upgrade basis, it's been as impressive as it was upgrading to an SSD for the first time for me.

Everything's so 'fluid'. You can track people so much better with your crosshairs and the animations look fantastic.

I would never go back to gaming in 60HZ after using 120HZ (actually 144hz) with this screen.

If my PC was taken away and I had to start again, an SSD and 120HZ would be the first items on my components list.

I give up with this game now, 1st time I connect to a server I get the disconnect error then 2nd time the display driver error even after upgrading to 13.4. Got a horrible green screen appear and ended up crashing my machine! At least on 12.4 the driver would recover by itself

Trying to weigh up the pros and cons regrding the use of Smoke or Thermal Vision in the Tank.

Smoke helps deflect incoming locked on missiles but I sure love mowing down sneaky soldiers with the thermal.

Decisions decisions !

I take thermal everytime

Helps pick out people much easier, missiles can be usually avoided with some speed driving behind something

Thermal works good in the closed City Maps - but out in the bigger maps without Smoke you will be annihilated.

On the bigger maps I find the zoom optics work well if you've got a bit of cover to work from. If not then the smoke is essential , but the smaller ones thermal is an excellent choice.

I find i'm also torn between proximity scan and reactive armour. I love proximity in those smaller maps and you can cap the flags in relative peace. With RA i'm always too nervous about getting c4'd

I'm going to my mates at the weekend for some beer and LAN laughs and he is harping on about playing this. Im probably not going to play it that often, so a cheapest way of getting this is required!

Erm.....wat? There are only 2 loadouts to use in a tank with 1 possible variation on that. If you are sitting back with Zoom you should be ashamed, it's for capping flags and supporting Inf NOT Artillery.

Reactive ~ Smoke ~ LMG / HMG
Reactive ~ Thermal ~ LMG / HMG

Seine and Tehran you use Thermal and the rest should be Smoke. If you play Normal mode you have 3D vision so don't really need proxy but in HC it helps a lot but just be mindful of those corners. Keep hitting Q and use the mini map to work out where the close guys are.
