Battlefield 4 Recommended Requirements - 3GB Vram

There are good reasons to believe that 2GB won't be sufficient for BF4 at max settings. It's not a scare tactic to say this. What I do think is wrong is to insist to people buying a new card that 2GB is definitely more than enough.

Sorry, fixed it now :)

I'll come back to you with a link regarding that question tomorrow. Can't find it off hand but i know Tommy has it.

Sounds kinda fishy to me, that or conjecture :D
Also as for the recommended requirements, i'm going to put it down to AMD marketing, good stuff on them :)

AMD are not responsible for creating recommended requirements for Dice. :D

No, i was just wondering how you can even begin to think that 4xaa will be unplayable on a 2gb card for a game that hasnt come out yet.

Out of interest, would you say playing Battlefield 3 on a 2gb card at 5760 x 1080 would be unplayable because of vram limitations?

Depends with what FPS you can settle for. 5040x1050 on Ultra BF 3 take around 2,5GB vRAM.

Anyway, Tile Resources or whatever is called, couldn't that feature be involved with the 2Gb/card 3GB recommended? 2GB with DX11.2 may be ok, but for lower API version you'll need 3GB 'cause it cannot use system RAM that well? Just asking...

Depends how much they pay them :D

If AMD are paying them why is there a Nvidia card on the recommended requirements? ;)

Good shout.

It is ok you dont have to. I have already found a few. A GTX 680 with 4gb performs the same as a 2GB card :)

Also, on the subject of those vram and memory requirements...presumably BF4 will have a 64 bit executable this time around...

Asus are fantastic and that card (DCUII) is brilliant! Silent.
KFA2 are also good, wouldn't touch a blower cooler especially considering it's the same price.

Cheers mate.. looks like the Asus then.. plus free shipping means it is actually only 20 quid more expensive for an extra 2gb of ram :)

And it gives me free shipping of my new corsair H80 too.. bonus.. oh and splintercell and batman too :)

Could those graphs not be the same as the ones we always see where just because a game will use 2.2GB VRAM doesn't mean it NEEDS to use 2.2GB VRAM?

If I remember correctly didn't BF3 also show VRAM usage over 2GB?

Besides, we all know that only noobs run these games with high settings, the good players turn everything down. They're too busy killing people to wonder if that wall has 2xAA or 4xAA on it.

I suppose if you're not good enough at multiplayer and have to resort to the single player mode, maybe then you'd want something to look at...

Tile resources is one reason I have updated to windows 8, that feature just looks so good for games not to use it. After seeing windows 8 as the recommended Os I don't see why this wouldn't be used?

Ok so who in this thread actually played BF4 Alfa you LtMatt?
Played the pre alpha test that was out a while back. Impossible to base final performance on that tbh. It was missing a shedload of textures, and funnily with my sli'd cards. Afterburner monitoring on my keyboard display was showing the lower card of the pair running at the highest load.

I also played the pre alpha test same cpu I have now but with a ATi 5850 1GIG VRAM and it played ok, yes it was missing a shedload of textures and had plenty of bugs but played fine on the above card, well not long to wait till the Beta :p

I'm no elite BF3 player, but I usually do stick everything on low (less smoke and distracting stuff flying about). AA is essential, as I find the jaggies very irritating and even detrimental to how well I can spot enemies.

May be just me

I play with everything ultra and do very well (stats back this up)
So maybe it's the noob who need to lower settings to get advantage over people?

Noob :p

Can we stop talking about VRAM until someone actually releases a VRAM Inspector tool that lets you see your real usage... current readings are useless, both companies handle memory differently and probably some predictive caching etc is taking up vast swathes of spare VRAM. Funny how the usage is always JUST under the max capacity...

Turn Aero off if you're hitting VRAM wall, should give you a few extra settings...
As for the tripe BF3 needs 2.5GB for 5760x1080....Here's two user reviews of 2GB 680 SLI @5760x1080, neither hit a VRAM wall...funny that.

Yep, all the benchmarks i have found show that there is no difference between a 2gb 680/670 or a 4gb 670/680 playing Battlefield 3 at 5760x1080.

But now 2gb cards will hit a vram wall in Battlefield 4 playing only at 1080p with a bit of AA?

Pfft.

I wont deny that in a few years times we will start to see 2gb cards hit the wall at 1080p once we are well into the next gen consoles lifetime, but i dont think Battlefield 4 will be causing anyone any problems...

Yep, the only worthwhile thing to look at is benchmarks between identical cards but testing the different vram versions of each other and see where they are hitting the wall.
