Battlefield 4 Recommended Requirements - 3GB Vram

  • Memory usage
  • Memory requirements

I wonder if these two trains will ever join the same track.

I'm going to be very surprised if BF4 is not just a reskin of BF3 Alpha.

Take a note, I know nothing about the upcoming game.

Did i touch a nerve Jono? :D

No, i was just wondering how you can even begin to think that 4xaa will be unplayable on a 2gb card for a game that hasnt come out yet.

Out of interest, would you say playing Battlefield 3 on a 2gb card at 5760 x 1080 would be unplayable because of vram limitations?

Not scare tactics, just presenting benchmarks and recommended requirements, then forming opinions based on those. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Didn't those benchmarks also come with appropriate frame rates? All showing unplayable at those settings...:p
Also if i remember correctly, the 2GB670s/680s were inline with 7950/7970s framerates even though your VRAM usages show 2GB being too little.

Flew off the handle there...

I touched a nerve because i dared to suggest 2gb may not be enough. Not the first time its provoked this sort of reaction. :p

I based it on the vram usage taken from benchmarks of the alpha. I posted the graph in the OP. 2gb was right on the limit with 0XAA. Considering the recommended requirements id say my prediction is not going to be far off.

Your second question makes no sense sorry.

The game had no performance optimizations or driver enhancements, dice said as much.

Vram is not something driver performance is going to lower. Considering a lot of the textures were missing i doubt very much vram usage is going to magically decrease dramatically.

If the vram usage was suddenly going to be the same as Battlefield 3 the recommended requirements would not have jumped up to 3gb vram and 8gb system ram when they were much lower for Battlefield 3.

Exactly.

Don't everyone freak out about 2gb not being enough. 2gb will be fine I'm sure. Too many scare tactics on the forums here at OCUK.
Tbh, for quite a long time in bf3 i had to settle for less aa as when the game came out i only had gtx 470's in sli. As they were only 1.2gb ram cards, any level of aa was a killer. Ive skimped on settings before, ill be happy enough to do so again. Besides, ill need some reason to upgrade again, might as well be bf4.:D

Sounds kinda fishy to me, that or conjecture :D
Also as for the recommended requirements, i'm going to put it down to AMD marketing, good stuff on them :)

Edit: Ignoring the games lack of performance optimizations. The VRAM would be as you said something that's not going to be reduced (by much) with improved drivers. So why was it, with those benchmarks the 670s/680s didn't show the drops associated with hitting a VRAM wall? When the graphs you show all the damn time show they should be slideshow unplayable (couple of FPS not 20-30)
