Battlestar Galactica (now containing quite minor spoilers)

okay I've watched more and the next few episodes answer some questions so i rescind a fair few of them.

interestingly it does show some sexism though the idea that men can be so easily manipulated by sex seems to be a huge theme.

You know that the femme fatal role is like; really famous in film don't you? You understand the concept don't you?

of course and it would be interesting if they only had one of them in the show but every cylon woman we see in the programme tries to control men with sex.

even the ambigous ones like the xo wife does it. every incarnation of the Chinese girl, the blonde woman in the science guys head.

its like yes, i get the picture. men can be controlled via their genitals. makes me wonder if the show was written by a woman!

To be honest if Grace Park was using sex to control me i would have put a bullet in Amadas brain before the end of the first episode!

i mean yes the cylons understand the power of love ie they were asking their brethren 'did he say he loves you?'. obviously they want to form emotional connections to make it easily manipulate their human.

but the humans fall for it every time the only one i saw resist was adamo when the blonde tried to gain some effection after she personified to implicate the geek guy.

This is more nuanced than you're making out. Spoilers, y0.

Ellen Tigh: As far as we know for sure, Ellen Tigh doesn't even know she's a Cylon until she's resurrected when Saul poisons her on New Caprica for collaborating with the Cylons. Prior to that it's ambiguous (I've deliberately used the same word you did, but I hope it's clear I'm making a different point) whether she knows or not. She may do, she may not. As such, we don't know whether her manipulative promiscuity, etc is part of her Ellen Tigh character or part of her Cylon character.

Sharon "Boomer" Valerii: The first Sharon on the Galactica doesn't know she's a Cylon until she "activates" and shoots Adama. Prior to that, her sleeping with the Chief is part of her actions as Sharon, not as a Number 8.

The Sharon on Caprica, who sleeps with Helo, I will grant you. She knows she's a Cylon, she knows her mission. However, she is only using sex to get... sex. She wants to become pregnant so she needs Helo to fall in love with her and sleep with her or whatever.

D'Anna Biers: No dice. Doesn't really attempt to manipulate anyone, sexually or otherwise.

Tory Foster: Nothing until she finds out she's a Cylon, and even then the only person she hits on is the Chief, who she was married to as a Cylon, so that doesn't really count.

Six: OK, so the main six uses sex to appeal to Gaius Baltar's vanity in order to get into the Colonial defence grid and facilitate the holocaust. That I will grant you. Shelley Godfrey, as you noted, also attempts to seduce Adama.

But on the other hand... There's other copies of Six who do nothing of the sort. Gina in particular, having been rescued from the Pegasus, appears in a considerable number of episodes without using her sexuality to gain anything.

Don't know about that - she was having a lesbian fling with Cain!
Also Caprica Sharon I think pretty much falls in love with Helo, don't think she was intending to get pregnant as they previously thought it was impossible despite having all the plumbing required.

Who was with Cain? Ellen? I've not watched the extended Pegasus or much outside the main series. Is that in Razor? I've not got to that yet.

You're half right with Caprica Sharon - she does love Helo, but that comes later. It's clear from the conversations with Doral and Six when they're tracking Helo that they're trying to manipulate him into falling for her. That and the fact that she goes on to report back that they had sex!

I've been working through BSG for the last few months and have to say I'm really enjoying it. Its a show that really makes you think about the characters and their interactions with one another. Its made me question the idea of good vs evil. From what I have seen the humans have at times behaved just as immorally as the cylons.

I'm just about to watch razor after seeing the mini series. I thought the s3 finale was superb. I shall be watching the thread now as my friend refuses to discuss the show with me until I have watched it all!

I've just started season 3. Pretty dark this one, as I recall.

I get upset even thinking about Cally going out of the airlock

3/4 through season 2 now. I've got to say out of all the actors i hate starbuck the most. her face makes me get angry with the tv and her putrid attempts to deliver some of the more character defining is upsettingly bad:/

i quite like the show despite my other comments but she very nearly ruins the show/

A question about the final 5 do not read if you haven't got that far it will destroy the show for you!

Just got to the episode where ellen comes back. I might have to watch this one again. Now her and the other 5 developed regen and they became the final 5 when earth? was under attack or about before?

Do I have that right?
She said though they redeveloped it and where they human then or cylon?
Who were they under attack from?

The information was coming so fast in the episode it confused my poor old brain :D
