Battlestar Galactica (now containing quite minor spoilers)

Final Five stuff:

I always thought it was a shame that they had to kill off Billy (Roslin's first aide), as I remember reading that he was supposed to be one of the five, instead of Tory (who was obviously written in as his replacement. I think that would have had a lot more impact, as he was a better character.

I quite liked the final five, especially one of them who I would never, ever have guessed who it was!

Yeah I suppose, two of them I would probably not have expected.

Final Five stuff:

Totally agree, I really liked that character as well. The one I thought was a Cylon straight away was Dee. I couldn't stand that ***** from the first episode she was in. She seemed as though she was gagging for it from the off with Billy and Apollo, as though she was as desperate for love as the 6.

I was gutted when they killed Kellie, she was one of my favs and hot in a not so obvious way :D

Why did they write him out? Really liked his character and I agree Tory is just an irritating cow.

Other commitments. It's always other commitments.

According to executive producer Ronald D. Moore, Billy was killed to release actor Paul Campbell to do other projects. Campbell said in an interview that it was because he was unwilling to sign a five-year contract for the series.

Legally? No clue, even back when they were hosted on the Sci-fi website you had to use a US proxy to be allowed to view them.

However they were intersped in the main Razor TV movie, which is definitely worth a watch.

So, i watched the opening and a couple of S1 episodes last night..

Are the writers more retard than robot?

In the one where they jump and then eventually get attacked by a scouting party and starbuck crashes onto a moon.

Questions in my mind. When does a scouting party ever have orders to blindly attack, instead of actually filing a scouting report?

Secondly, the sylons are robots right? so why do they have organic pilot things? So messy, spurting bblood, requiring oxygen etc, why not just have a cpu that controls the ships? Computers can stand more G forces and stuff necessary in combat which is better than organic life right?

When justifying the decision to stay and search, the president woman complains, but the army guys never say to her, 'look this girl is actually our BEST pilot, BEST Sniper.. the army leader guy says that they dont leave people behind, well actually they did just one or two episodes prior?

Given the cylons are robots and stuff, why dont they banzai kamikaze the BSG fleet ships? Surely they have little concern for loss of their own 'life'? well by the way they fly and try to fight the human fighter spacejets you'd think so abnyway:/

And if you were Battle star galacica, isnt earth the LAST place you'd want to go to? What good can leading the cylons to the last enclave of humans actually suceed in doing? if they wanted to ensure the future of the human race, actually the best thing they could do is to kill themselves allowing the cylons to call off the hunt and persue, whatever it is they wanted to do after ridding the galaxy of humans, as opposed to leading them possibly closer and closer to earth?

You know, in 1970 they might not have thought of this things, but this is 2012 and im not even a sci fi fan and yet i can still see some pretty ragged actions that make me question the validity of the universe that this series inhabits.

What?

That is quite easily the stupidest question I've ever read on this forum.

You're not going to grasp BSG if you can't even understand the human desire for self-preservation. You should just stop watching now.

Because the Cylons are trying to become living beings. The fighters are livings beings much the same as the cylons which is in essence what the whole story is about. Also there is little gravity in space, certainly not enough to cause excessive g-forces unless artificially created.

Re-gen was not actually covered for the fighters as it was for the nine. The ships are however treat as individuals. SCAR is an example of this

As per spoiler above.

Cylons and humans are aware of 'Earth', it wouldn't matter who got there first and in the end...as you will see...makes little difference.

A fair point but isn't all sci-fi created with a large dose of artistic license.

Are the writers more retard than robot?

Which robot? But whichever robot you suggest the answer will be no.

In the one where they jump and then eventually get attacked by a scouting party and starbuck crashes onto a moon.

Questions in my mind. When does a scouting party ever have orders to blindly attack, instead of actually filing a scouting report?

The cylon scouting parties almost exclusively attack to cause disruption then jump away. Why? Why do anything in war? Why did the redcoats form a line rather than a square? Why did the British fleet sail through the French at Trafalgar? Why did Hitler persecute a war in Russia?

They are tactics individuals choose, that is a cylon tactic.

Secondly, the sylons are robots right? so why do they have organic pilot things? So messy, spurting bblood, requiring oxygen etc, why not just have a cpu that controls the ships? Computers can stand more G forces and stuff necessary in combat which is better than organic life right?

That is what they are  why do humans have squishy organic bits? Becasue that is what we are

When justifying the decision to stay and search, the president woman complains, but the army guys never say to her, 'look this girl is actually our BEST pilot, BEST Sniper.. the army leader guy says that they dont leave people behind, well actually they did just one or two episodes prior?

Because it would be hard to justify the decision to stay behind for one person despite their skills. HIs reasons for staying behind are entirely apparent to anyone watching and paying attention and it is equally apparent why he does not wish to share these true reasons with a president he doesn't trust.

Given the cylons are robots and stuff, why dont they banzai kamikaze the BSG fleet ships? Surely they have little concern for loss of their own 'life'? well by the way they fly and try to fight the human fighter spacejets you'd think so abnyway:/

They are sentinent and alive, would you suicide bomb yourself for the good of everyone else? No? Then why be surprised that they would. Also being a bad pilot, or just not as good as the opposition, does not mean you should go and kill yourself

Lets all kill ourselves because we are losing a war, lets not try and regroup or do anything else let's just kill ourselves. Along with all them robots that are killing themselves suicidily (in your world)

Do you have any issues you want to talk about? :p

You know, in 1970 they might not have thought of this things, but this is 2012 and im not even a sci fi fan and yet i can still see some pretty ragged actions that make me question the validity of the universe that this series inhabits.

No you have brought up quite frankly ridiculous ideas, without even engaging your brain to find a sensible solution or answer to your questions first, and decided that because you cannot comprehend something one of most popular scifi shows of all time lauded for its depth and attention to detail is flimsy and ragged

Try watching it again with your brain on and you will really enjoy it as it is the best scifi ever made (arguably) but if you cannot engage your brain when watching TV (not being insulting here I know a lot of people don't like to think when watching the idiot box, they just want to be entertained) then this is not the series for you.

Missed the opening pilot and just finished the first two seasons, still don't know why the doctor guy balthazar or whaterver sees the cylon... was this explained in the pilot?

Thought the second series was weak compared to the first, lots of filler episodes

How do you know the scouts didn't make some sort of report? Or that they weren't under such orders?

And yet the Cylon raiders are pretty handy, in spite of all these apparent flaws...

I'm struggling to remember who they left behind, but if you can't understand that Starbuck means quite a lot to Adama then you haven't been paying attention.

Not sure why the slight at their flying? And they have their reasons for everything they do. Watch and learn.

That doesn't even make sense.

You think they wouldn't have had a handle on these things a scant 42 years ago?
