Batwoman

Looks like it's probably going to be cancelled after it's ratings have slowly dropped to 450k-ish over 2 seasons from their 1.8m highpoint.

I know there's likely to be lots of "Get Woke Go broke" style thoughts but, regardless of any agenda, in the end it was the absolutely terrible writing quality which really sunk this.
I am shocked I tell you! It did have a slight bump in ratings this week but still over 1m short from the highs of 1.8m viewers. Also I am losing track of how many coincidental lesbians there are in the roster now, including Safiyah who was about as menacing as my mother-in-law asleep. I would love to be a fly on the wall with the writing team and their meetings.

CW's budget must be getting stretched because the CGI in The Flash (Caitlyn and Barry speed running) was awful!

from what I read in various places it secured a season 3 but it likely a final season and how many episode it will have is still undecided. i believe under normal circumstances it wouldn't of gotten a season 3, but due to the effect that corvid-19 has had on the industry and with black lightening and Supergirl ending, they gave it a renew just to help fill out 2021-2022 timeslots.

A good point which I hadn't made very clear in my post but that was the gist of the link. Regarding the viewing figures, when so many YT videos can get millions of views within 24hrs I'm amazed that "high production cost" TV shows like this are getting less than 500k in 24hrs. You'd imagine the "income vs cost" analysts at the studios would be very unhappy with viewing figures under say 1m viewers I'd guess, unless they somehow sell a huge amount of advertising

just add CW has renewed a lot of there shows early. as well as give early renew to walker, superman & lois plus give them extra episode in their freshman season but i suspect that they got there renewal on solely on the fact that they are performing very well, plus show that are returning and yet to air have already been given season renewed for example Roswell new Mexico season 3 is still to air but season 4 is greenlight. it just that side from all these show been given a another season, to help fill in they also given batwoman a season 3 to help fill the gap left with other ending

The 18-50 demographic is particularly damning. It makes it look like it's only 50 year old male comic fans holding on, and no one younger is interested.

The real question is has anything woke ever been successful? Or original?

I'm not sure whether these would be considered "woke" TBH (I'm not sure I would but someone might would) but films like The Green Book and Hidden Figures are fantastic at dealing with racism in a well written way which doesn't pander to a specific demographic but still hits hard. Both films did very well in both the Box Office and in the Awards, showing to me at least, that it's far more important to have a high quality team behind a project rather than with a poor quality team who are only interested in ticking boxes.

I don't consider those films woke.

Thats exactly what "get woke, go broke" means. This is where so many people misunderstand it. If you listen to the people who lap up the woke BS shoehorned into shows, they believe that people are racist, sexist etc and thats why they won't watch these shows. People don't have an issue with gay, trans, strong female characters. We have had them for decades (maybe not trans). What people have an issue with is really poorly written and directed media that places the main focus on these issues with little regard for what actually makes compelling TV or films.

"Get woke, go broke" just means that someone has become so focussed on virtue signalling and their own personal politics and agenda that they have forgotten to make something intrinsically good or interesting. They think the message is more important than the delivery.

Schiits Creek is a good example of a show which has a gay main character who is very feminine, very proud of his sexuality and the show doesn't shy away from showing it. Most people have 0 issues with it because he is just a character and its all well written. Its not "look at me, I'm gay, get over it, if I make you uncomfortable thats your problem" in the middle of a show that is not about relationships and sex. Its where shows like the latest Star Trek have fallen down so badly. Its jarring and badly done. The issue is execution, not content.

So much happened this week....
  • Batwoman been sneaked on to a plane and then halo jumping with a bedside oxygen mask
  • Villains and allies again just appearing in the Bat office
  • The universe sized range of Safiyah's henchmen skills - Luke and Mary taking one out and then arguing about saving Batwoman's plant
  • The Crow woman doing another mission underprepared and her and her boss somehow get jumped in a well lit car park
  • The same two just walking out of a prison cell and overpowering Safiyah's henchwoman
  • Fake Ocean and his pristine face mask which can simply be slid off
  • Safiyah's acting and lack of any screen presence or intimidation (side note - she's gorgeous in real life and not that far off 50  - plus she's a Geordie, all of this sounds way more interesting than her character)
  • Random plane parked on the secret island
  • The very convenient bit where potassium nitrate could be smelled, and we told that it is likely used to grow the desert flower - only so that Alice can blow up an entire field
  • Finally confirming Kate is dead - dum, dum, dum! (or is she......)

So they've ruined James Bond, Doctor Who, Batman and The Terminator what's next on the agenda for a bit of diversity and social justice?

Maybe an all white boys in the hood? who would you cast in the leading roles? Alan Carr?

What happened with Bond / Terminator?
I suppose replace Bond for some part of the film with a black female, not problem with that, but it makes zero sense in the world.
Terminator could have been fine with Female "john Conner" but Jesus that was the worst casting ive seen in a long time, jsut far far to soft lookign and no screen presence, same for the female terminator sent back to protect her. In fairness hat film was jsut a hot mess.
It never works shoe horning a replacement female for a traditionally male role, its been done lots of times now and they never work. Film however with strong female kickass characters from the start do very well though, they wont learn to make a better spin off of the series of films. Women know when they are being pandered too.

On Bond I just thought that a female agent takes over the 007 moniker whilst Bond is out of action. It’s being quietly championed as a “look what women can do now” sort of thing which, all things considered, is fine. I don’t think the idea of a female ‘00 agent’ is daft so I don’t see this as being some sort of awkward, forced thing. Plus, most of the Bond films are quite sexist by today’s standards so I’m not surprised it’s something that’s being heralded as progressive, considering the history of the franchise.

With Terminator Salvation I just thought it was a bit of a rubbish film but I didn’t really think any of it in the context of “wokism” or whatever.

Yea, but in the large marketing thing, its going down as 007 replaced by a woman", its token gesture stuff when they could have set up separate films with a female lead throughout and expanded the films, 008 009 etc. Apparently then Craig comes back to save the day, which again is stupid as it then set things up that the replacement cant get the job done.
Setting Terminator up jsut to kill off John and make up an entire new backstory jsut so they can replace but woman leader, that isnt in the slightest bit convincing in teh role, was a tad much. It removed the entire story of Terminator.
Proof is in the pudding though, franchises that are trying it pretty much die at the box office.

Anything past Terminator 2 is just fanfic, IMO. High budget, poor concept fanfic. Given that, the woke stuff doesn't bother me as I just happily ignore it. Hell, it's probably "not made for me" anyway.
