BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

If all the teams kicked up a fuss about it do you think it would matter?

It usually does. But who knows if they will or not. I'm a little surprised that the deal was announced before the teams were informed about it as they do have rules in the Concorde agreement about broadcast rights.

F1 fans have had a free ride for too long, you're getting partially shafted now as well! :p

Still, the Sky services are fantastic so I don't see why people have an issue paying for them.

Not everyone can afford to pay for Sky etc.

So is this effectively the same kind of deal to how the Champions League is shared between Sky and ITV? Some are live on BBC and some are live on Sky rather than Sky showing every race and BBC also showing the odd one?

I belive the BBC contract runs to the end of 2013. I highly doubt that they will renew it, so thats F1 exclusively on Sky Sports from 2014 onwards.

And thats only if the BBC don't wriggle there way out of the contract early. I would not be at all surprised to see them drop it at the end of 2012, or, if they can get around it without Bernie taking them to court, dropping it all at the end of this season.

Why would I either want to pay £30 odd a month if I was on VM or ditch my Freesat box and go back to a Sky sub to just watch F1?

I had Sky before, £21 for a bunch of channels I really didn't watch much, hence dumping them and just watching the FTA channels with a HD recorder box.

I will give you my paypal details and you can send me the money then please.

That's the whole point though, Sky have bought it to get more subscribers. If you want to watch it, you have to pay.

I'd rather the football was free but I accept that it isn't and pay for it.

I have sky but don't subscribe to the sports channels. Now if I want to watch the entire F1 season live I have to subscribe. That extra cost (what is the cost of the sports pack anyway?) just for 20 races a year? No chance! Think I'd prefer if it was on PPV then I wouldn't be paying for endless football that I have absolutely zero interest in watching. RIP F1

The football comparisons don't stand up though. How many hundreds of football games are shown on Sky a year?

F1 is 20 (ish) races. The cost per 'event' is much much greater.

Around £480 for maybe 30 hours of entertainment over the course of the year (and less if you watch the BBC coverage for the races they have). You don't see why people wouldn't find that attractive?

atleast you get more than a few games a month... with F1 if sky only have half the races your pretty much paying 30 quid for a race

Yes but a lot of F1 fans don't want to watch the premier**** or any of the other sports on Sky Sports.

It doesn't bother me too much as i only have sky for sky sports, and largely all i watch is sport and the motorsport offered by Eurosport and motors TV.

I can understand why people don't like this and i enjoyed, greatly the BBC coverage, but knowing sky sports i don't doubt that the coverage will be top notch, just like their football coverage is and even more their Cricket coverage which is so much better than anyone else was it's untrue.

Agreed. I can't see sky gaining any subscribers. I think the only people who will watch it on sky sports are the people that already have sky sports for the current sport coverage

Mind you, to be fair, I dont remember people cheering in the street when Hamilton won the title, a victory parade or people lining the streets either and that was broadcast on BBC :p

No, it wasn't broadcast on the BBC. It was broadcast on ITV.
