BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

Team principle briefing this afternoon, to tell them the inns and outs of the deal,
So by tonight we should know how peed of the teams are.

According to Adam Cooper, many of the teams found out this morning through the media, rather than any contact from Bernie/FOM... Could lead to more breakaway talks if they're unhappy, but I don't see the point. It's not like the BBC would then go and buy coverage of that.

I think if I was a team manager, I'd be pretty peed off. Say what you like about F1 with regards to money, but teams have always seemed to hold fans in high regard. This just seems to be F1 management peeing on them from a great height.

Complaint to the BBC sent.

Will likley fall on deaf ears, but at least when they say on the news that "The BBC have recieved x thousand complains about its loss of F1 coverage", I can consider myself one of those counted.

If the teams aren't going to get a cut out of the deal then they won't be happy. Simple as that. Because if the teams sponsors are getting less exposure then it means teams will be getting less sponsor money. Which means they need to gain it from somewhere else.

They wont be at all - theyll be told theyll get more money out of the TV rights (its my understanding the combined BBC/Sky deal means more money than the £50m BBC was paying each year) irrelevant of the possible reduction of viewing figures. Its really the sponsors that could make the stand. Andy Parr from Williams has pretty much already stated as such...

Whatever happens the F1 forum this weekend is NOT to be missed!

What a crap piece of news this is!

People should just boycott the current BBC coverage of the remainder of the season so viewing figures plummet.

That would possibly be only way to make your protest know, they will not give a **** with all these petitions online.

I'm sure the sponsors of all the teams will have something to say about all this. If 50%of the races go to Sky, thats a lot of lots viewers even if they show the highlights on the BBC, they can't be sure there logos etc will be seen. Plus hardly anyone watches the highlights, normally you've heard the results by then.

Fingers crossed the BBC team do the sky commertray, sky get rid of the adverts during the live race and they at least setup a new F1 tarriff, not making us all subscribe to the whole sports package.

50% of the races are on Sky next year. Within a couple of years all races will be on Sky.

Sky will have all the races next year - just allow BBC to duplicate 50% live - when that ends Im not sure (I cant see Sky allowing that until 2018 myself)

AcidHell you keep stating it will now cost £61 per race to watch.

It's about right.

Sky + Sky Sports is basically the best part of £50/month. So considering that F1 isn't actually racing during the winter months. It's only actually racing about 8 months out of every year. So it's perfectly plausible where the £65/month figure comes from... It will be costing every bit of that.

In reality it's all down to Ferrari isn't it? If they don't like deal then it won't happen or a breakaway series will be on the cards, but why wouldn't they? Any Brit who can afford to buy a Ferrari is likely to be able to afford a Sky Sports subscription. Then again, isn't there an argument that Ferrari is *the* aspirational car partly because of F1. If F1 diminishes in popularity then won't Ferrari's status too?

We need Lewis Hamilton to win another championship - and fast.

Then the BBC will be forced to get the rights back for reasons of 'cultural significance'.

IE: Making the average Guardian reader have a smug, warming, glowing feeling inside about how great multiculturalism is.
