BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

So at the moment everyone with a TV in the UK, which is probably most of the population can watch F1. Last count in like 2006, the BBC issued 25 million licences so lets say about 30 million this year.

Sky has a user base of 10 million...How many do we think have sky sports? A quarter of that at the most i reckon.

Potential audience of 30million or potential audience of 2.5 million.

Bernie..and i quote: "For sure there are going to be a lot more people viewing, and a lot more opportunities for people to view, so from that point I'm very happy."

Even if just a glimmer, I seriously hope the BBC show the races in full. I can live with watching the races deferred. Failing that, I'll just download the races that aren't shown live on the BBC.

Sad day, "for sure" :(

Indeed.

I'm really *really* hoping this blows up in their faces, but with Sky making record profits I doubt it matters :(

Do you mean this bit?

He makes it seem as if people who have Sky already aren't able to watch it on the BBC right now

Surely he made the biggest fool of himself and promotion of the sport with this bit:

"For those who can't watch Sky, they can still watch on a Sunday night, which will probably be better than watching the whole race live half the time," he added.

You're really selling it Bernie now that people will have to buy a subscription to see live races if they don't already have one. Maybe we should just no bother if it's going to be boring half the time?

just had a thought, they are going to be showing races on sunday at 1pm start times just when the footie kicks off.

i wonder what they are going to do with the clashing.

I don't have Sky, and I'm one of those ranting about it too. But TBH I'll probably just end up getting Sky. Rugger, Cricket, and F1 are the three sports I watch. All three of them are on Sky Sports (well some of the Rugger is on ESPN, so that's another £10 on the top of Sky).

next year though you have to pay a sky sports subscription in order to watch fly away races live, hmmm... pay sky, get up at five, whatch boring race or... stay in bed.

Good job you get a HD PVR included with Sky.

Just on the sky web page, Apparently F1 is going to be shown on Sky sports 1 and 2,

If you went for entertainment extra and sky sports, you would be paying £36.75 monthly.

Basic entertainment pack and sky sports would be £31.75 pm

Add £10-£11 a month for HD

stick F1 on one sky sports 3 or 4 which means everyone on virgin media has to buy the sky sports bundle £22.50 rather than pay for just sky sports 1 or 2 @ £14.50

ill just use my parents subscription to watch it online... no way im forking out for a channel i will for maybe 2-3 hours a month

, Apparently F1 is going to be shown on Sky sports 1 and 2,
great so virgin media customeras are forced into the sky sports package rather than just paying for one channel ROFL...

viewing figures are going to be a flop, i reckon they will do well to get 30% of the viewers the bbc did

Surely it would make sense from bbc and sky to use the same commentary team for a cost point of view?

I predict skys team to be Allen and Leggard ;)

I was talking to one of Sky's gimps in the chat thing, He said it will be shown on both. But I dunno if he meant you would need both channels to view the races? or if one channel would do.

Was just having a look at the costs, Not paying that much for it. Will have to see what happens with the BBC coverage and more than likely end up being a dirty pirate and download some races.

Well reading Ecclestones comments about expanding the viewing numbers and 10 million homes having sky it's pretty clear the dithering old **** should be in a retirement home.

It's time for them to use some fresh blood to promote and negotiate deals on behalf of the owners.

Oh great, so I will have to subscribe to sky sports now? Will there be unknown presenters doing the coverage? Will there be breaks mid race?

No body knows, No doubt we will get all the details closer to the time, I'd not subscribe just yet :p

Might turn out to be rubbish coverage.

If this is true, and the details aren't sorted yet:

Fire off a complaint to let the BBC know you want a deffered race, exactly as it is now with all the build up, same team etc, just delayed.

I have made a complaint to the BBC, I suggest you all do the same:

It won't change anything, but selling out to Sky has really p***ed me off.

Sky will just start buggering about with football kick off times even more, they've been doing it for years, it's one of the reasons I'm glad I don't support a prem team. Football should kick off at 3pm on a Saturday, how often does that happen with prem teams thanks to sky?

I'm still bloody fuming about this news today. :(
