BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

I'm not a Sky customer, and am obviously narked off about having to pay £600 to get next year what I got for my £140 TV License this year, but seriously can't some people read before posting?

Will there be breaks mid race?

NO. Sky have said that there will not be advertisement breaks during the race.

Even if just a glimmer, I seriously hope the BBC show the races in full. I can live with watching the races deferred. Failing that, I'll just download the races that aren't shown live on the BBC.

Sad day, "for sure" :(

Unfortunately I, and many others can't. To know there is a race going on live elsewhere and being unable to watch it - unless paying Sky gives me no choice but to find a way to afford Sky Sports.

Downloading the races just won't have anywhere near the coverage you get from the BBC currently.

Really a sad day for Formula 1 fans in the UK.

i guess thats it for me apart from finding an 'alternative' way to watch, i met the gf through f1 and we both love watching it, but im not paying about £20 per race just to watch the f1, [im guessing thats what it approximately works out to per race]

ive watched it since i can remember, was hoping to go to spa next year but that wont be happening now, had it been commencing in 2013 i would have at least got to see it.

half the races? i dont think ill bother at all,

really a shame, especially for silverstone, i doubt it will be sellout next year, my only slim-to-nil possibility is that theres a break away, but unlikely.

i suppose thats me out of f1, wish you could opt out of the bbc channels and not pay the licence fee, because with this i now would.

shame bbc, itv and 5 couldnt reach a deal, i dont blame bbc just bernie et al. isnt he rich enough? i wonder how far back this was decided?

enjoy f1 next year all you sky customers.. jealous!

I don't understand the silly hate for Sky, they aren't really that expensive and the service is absolutely excellent.

If you want nice things, you have to pay for them. I know it's nice to have had it for free but times are changing, unfortunately.

More from JA on F1

That's a nice chunk of money:

It's also a fairly irrelevent stat because it makes the assumption that an additional 1 MILLION people purchase a new sky subscription with Sports and HD purely to watch the F1.

This is fantasy, absolute fantasy, and that £600 gets you a lot more than just F1 so there is absolutely no way anything like that amount would be apportioned to F1 teams!

So will the BBC be keeping all the current presenters/commentators and the current format (including the forum) for the races? As thats a big part of why I watch F1. Will also be interesting to see how sky handles it, although i'm not paying for sky sports just for F1.

Would you seriously spend £50 a month on top of the £150 license fee just to watch F1? ;)

Not always a question of affording it, or a question of hating sky. It's a question of if it's worth it.

And it just isn't. :(

F1 is the only thing I watch live, and therefore spending £600 a year to do that is utter stupidity you see :)

It's expensive if you don't want anything else from that service.

I don't hate sky, the sport has been in decline, finally they get a quality service that brings in viewers on a sunday afternoon and maybe encourages kids to follow the sport.

Instead they take half of that away to the 1 million or so sky sports subscibers. If by the end of the year they have 800k viewers I will be amazed. Big Brother got more viewers on C4 than that and it was axed :D

This isn't going to increase the viewer base and do more to shed fans than a race at valencia.

F1 teams need sponsors more than ever and cutting the numbers watching will harm that. Even if you can watch a delayed race lots of people won't bother when they know the result. I know If I sleep in and miss a race I can never resist looking at the result. Like football once I know the result I cba watching.

If the only reason to have Sky is to watch F1 then what ******* use is the Sky package when there isn't a race weekend?
If you're not interested in any other sport other than F1, what ******* use is the Sky Sports package every weekend there isn't a race?

My life doesn't revolve around the television, I certainly can't be doing with urinating money down the drain.
I'll prefer to join the switch off brigade in the hope that it causes problems for the sport.
