BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

anyone who sponsors a primarily english team and any sponsors that are really only here for the uk market will care.

Yeah I would agree with that but I don't think there are that many anymore that can afford to be on a british team and only care about a uk market. Infact I can't even think of one, either because there is none or because the logo is so small I cannot see it ;)

I just did some looking into Red Bull for their market share to see if they would be bothered.

Apparently they sell 70% of the worldwide market of energy drinks with america being one area they haven't conquered, so again you would think they would want a USGP more than anyone....

"His formula seems to work: last year Red Bull sold 1.6 billion cans in 62 countries, an increase of 80% over 2000. Potential growth is still huge. In the United States, where Red Bull has built up its own distribution network from scratch, starting in California in 1997 and reaching Florida at the end of last year, sales still average only one can per person. If Americans eventually drink even half as much as the Irish, who top the charts with 11 cans apiece, the company would sell over a billion cans a year in America alone"

11 cans a piece, no wonder the paddies are so highly strung ;)

Murray has had his say here.

I still can't see how going to Sky will increase viewing figures, is it even possible to receive Sky and not BBC, I know some don't like the BBC but do any people not watch F1 now and will when Sky show it?

There will be some who can watch on either and some that will probably pay up and watch on Sky but surely a lot of people who don't subscribe to Sky Sports still won't (me for one).

So there is nothing in this for the general fans of F1.

I do appreciate that the BBC need to save money and maybe this was an easy few million, let's hope we don't get Big Brother in it's place.

Andi.

maybe not but badnews for british drivers seeking sponsorship to get them into F1 , dont expect to see many more british drivers in the future if the viewer count goes down thanks to sky.

Over 16,000 signatures on the petition and over 5000 comments on the blog.

Yet no mention of the deal on the qually today. Sickening.

I filled in the bbc news form about suggesting something that needs reporting on, suggesting they report on the huge negative reaction to the announcement, was the bbc not the one involved they would be reporting on it for sure.

I wrote a complain on the BBC website earlier today. I don't think it will change anything, but I had to do 'something'.

This whole deal stinks of Bernie's greed.

It is time for him to go.

How do other countries get their F1? Which country holds the highest viewing figures?

These are two good questions I feel.

Take Italy, Do they have to pay for F1? They must have a fair few viewers? They are Ferrari mad over there.

it's free in italy :) their coverage isn't that good though (not that I understood much, but I was told by some relatives it wasnt much cop)..

it wouldnt take a genius to work out that a pub will get more than three viewers for the big games. im sure they take that into account for the viewing figures

They don't, because you can't guess when there could be 4 or 400 watching in any particular pub, or often stadiums are opened for fans who can't get to the game can watch in the stadium with other fans, which for Utd is another 80k.

Football is FAR more popular in the UK than F1, I only know a handful of people who like F1, and I only know a handful of people who don't watch football AT ALL.

It's not been confirmed that the BBC will be showing all the races in their entirety so i dont really know how you've come to that conclusion?

Because, the current general thinking is they will show the whole thing, so I'm going off that.

And that completely ignores the majority who'd absolutely hate to watch a delayed show. Completely removes all life from it.

You don't see the deal because you have Sky Sports.
Imagine if you hated all other sport and didn't have Sky. Would you be over the moon and absolutely delighted with this news? It's a load of **** for the majority of people, that fact can NOT be ignored.

As for not watching it live taking all the life out of it, rubbish, complete tosh.

With football its different, if you miss the 12.45 game, then the table is different by the time the 3pm games start, especially when it comes up to title winning you can't just watch the 12.45game after you've seen the other later games, that does feel wrong.

But F1 isn't a sport at all like that, you put a tiny bit of effort into not seeing the result and you watch it from the start, sorry but plenty of people have had to do that infact the vast majority of F1 fans have had to. For the record, I hate cricket, I'm not a fan of watching golf, I don't watch womens football, rugby or, 75% of the sports actually shown on sky sports, but I love to watch football so I have sky sports..... everyone has to deal with something.

I've watched a couple F1's at 4am, but not many, and most fans have life to deal with, kids to get to school, jobs to go to and live with recording it and watching at a decent time. Welcome to life, I'm getting increasingly miffed with people who make the biggest deal out of the smallest thing, this one thing isn't 100% perfect, therefore its completely ruined attitude.

LIke I said, if I had to watch it on BBC, I wouldn't be able to watch a few races live, I'd prefer to, it won't kill me not to, so I really don't care. If they don't show them all live, guess what, I'll download the whole show and watch it myself, before the actual BBC show even airs, because this isn't 1965 and BBC aren't the only way to watch TV anymore.

A few hundred thousand people might die in Africa due to lack of food in the next couple months, I might have to watch a race a few hours later........ how will I survive.

That's what everybody is hoping. It's certainly not what everybody is expecting. If it were then this thread wouldnt be full of people complaining about the price of a sky sports sub in order to watch all the races.

Really why? They will still get in lesser series and if they shine they will be taken on, it wasn't big in Germany until ms. Even jb and Lewis I don't remember them promoting uk sponsors. Not like when you used to see say frentzen with big german sponsorship on his overalls. Wasn't ms and then alonso backed by home national sponsors that followed them but I don't remember many British ones lately??

When did school open on a Sunday? LOL your whole rant is illogical - its wrong for F1 fans to be annoyed about not watching something live because they have other priorities, but a footy fan cant miss a 12.45 kick-off if a 3pm match is due to follow? LOL I guess the jobs dont happen and the kids dont get to school either then?

EDIT: Im not religious ;)

ps3ud0

im thinking more about recent drivers look at the recent drivers getting into F1 they all had big spomnsorship and basicly paid there way into the grid how do you expect british drivers to compete if they cant bring sponsor money with them?

I work nights and hardly watch TV as it is. I was happy to pay my fee for top gear and F1 as this is pretty much all I watch. I guess I will be watching this on viasport baltic with R5L over the top. I will not pay for sky as I do not want it. It was the same with cricket (Im one of thise few who actually watched it :P). When it left CH4 I stopped watching it all together. I have no idea who plays for England now!
