BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

So you're going to pay the 400 odd quid for half the races? Brave man, I think I will end up doing it but am living in denial at the moment.

No, because I actually want a lot of other stuff on Sky. I used to have all the channels and I really miss all the Documentary channels (especially Discovery), and things like Eurosport and Motors TV. I also can't get Freeview HD until the end of next year at the earliest.

It's always been the plan to get Sky (HD), this has just given me a deadline.

"I think the two of them will eventually do a good job. Sky aren't going to get the live viewing figures that we had with the BBC, but I think with the combination of the two across all the F1 that is broadcast there will be a lot more viewers.

"In the short-term, I think that collectively taking in the amount of broadcasting that's going to be scheduled between the two of them next year, there will be more eyeballs watching than we have now."

F1 fans are notoriously enthusiastic about their sport and, even if their loyalty has been tested by this latest episode, Ecclestone believes that they will be the winners in the end.

He claimed, "That's good for us, good for the teams and good for the fans."

I still don't understand how they can sit there and say things like that with a straight face.

How on Earth they think a subscription channel is going to result in more F1 viewers than a channel that literally every person in the UK with a functioning TV can view is beyond me.

I dont either unless there is a large population of F1 fans that dont like the BBC so havent been watching it for the last few years, but will do once it moves to Sky :p

The more Ive got used to the idea the more Ive started to loose interest in F1 - just like they have done to me...

ps3ud0

Are you trying to convince us or yourself :D:p

The powers that be need to get their PR machine in full flow. The comment above, about how the SKY deal is great for F1 is nothing more than some PR to try and brain wash people into believing that this is a great move for F1.

You will be surprised how many people can fall for brain washing. The power of suggestion is used in marketing, advertising and hypnosis...and PR.

Weird isn't it.

There is PR and there is making downright nonsensical statements though.

Statements like that are akin to a hypnotist just standing in front of someone saying 'You are now hypnotised' over and over again whilst they sit there saying 'No i'm not'.

Bernie has done the deal to maximise revenue until 2018, this is a really good deal from Bernie's point of view, all he has to do is think of how to answer awkward questions. He has many years of experience doing this.

Bernie doesn't get money from sponsors or from circuit attendance, he gets money from circuits to run a race and he gets TV money plus a load of F1 licensing stuff.

The teams will in the short term get more money, but in the end get less.

Bernies mission is to get money for CVC, that is all.

it dosnt help when the teams are so short sighted and just go along with whatever bernie decides if theres a few quid in it for them.......

there just as much to blame really

Id say they are more to blame - at end of the day there would be no content if the F1 teams put their weight around a bit just like Bernie does. In all honesty what Bernies achieved wouldnt be that hard for them to recreate if they had to. Things like A1GP have shown that...

Bernie without the F1 teams would have more difficulties putting on a show than the F1 teams without the FIA...

The teams had nothing to do with this? IIRC they said in the past they wanted to keep it on free to air in the UK.

the teams were singing the same crap as bernie about it will help get a larger audience and the rest of the rubbish... only a few weeks/months earlier they were telling us how importaint free to air is for the UK..

they soon changed the tune when they realised they would be getting an extra 1million a year each for most teams its not even 1% of their budget

has anyone used any of the live streams of the german channel rtl before? they have broadcast rights until 2015 (interstingly whilst sky also broadcasts in germany all races are still fta on rtl), although it has adverts, its free and legal to watch apparently in other country's, not sure what the online streams are like. As an alternative I have a dvb-s card in my pc, buying a mini dish (about 30 quid) seems like a good and cheap way of watching the race. Interested to know how viable an option that is for the races we wont be getting via the bbc.

yeah but its the same footage as everyone else gets, so just put 5 live commentary over the top.

Its pretty easy to find some streams of the german coverage online it seems, just watching the news on rtl at the moment lol, will need to test this come spa and see how viable an option it is come raceday.
