BC2 BETA... Your thoughts and SCREENSHOTS of it

Well downloaded it at 1.1mb/s from fileplay and started playing around 9pm.. went to bed at 2am.

I think its brilliant, I'm running a Q6700 at 3.4GHz, 4GB DDR2 and a 4850 512mb and played at the full wide screen res of 1650x1050 with low settings and it was smooth as anything. Yes a tad laggy internet wise but thats going to happen with everyone trying to get on and it being a beta and all. If I upped these to medium I started to get some sluggishness in the game but that aside I think its brilliant!

My mate pretty much summed it up really, he couldn't get on the game but when he did the first time he hated it, said it looked dire and went away for a few hours (he was lagging too). He returned later on, joined up and was hooked within seconds! Huge scale battles, you can either be at the front line or sneak around the back. Guns are decent, sniper rifle is a bit rubbish in my opinion, sometimes needing 3 shots to kill one person.

I tried playing through the Play Now and it never found a game for me so I went with the server browser on the right hand side (bottom, right tab) and that worked for me although it crashed a few times.

Current rank is 6 I think, name is AuxiliA Jam0r, shame I'm not around this weekend, think i'm hooked already!

Finally got it downloaded last night and never got into a game. Initial problems were the same as rjkoneill's with either "Server Full" messages or "Check Connection" messages when trying to use the Play Now. Still get the same error message with Play Now but bringing up the server browser now causes a ctd every time. By the time I went to bed last night there was already a 4 page thread about it on the beta forums.

Hopefully this evening might see me actually get into a game. Not gonna stress too much because, let's face it, it's a beta and we are here to find these problems sooner rather than later.
 
proberbly covered somewhere in this post but i take it you need to preorder to get access to this beta? gonna preorder next few days i think i just wanted to see peoples opinions first.
 
I think its a little dissapointing that they didn't have the Friends or Server Browser working. I mean surely in-house testing would show that?

And yeah, server full or connection lost messages here too. Getting a little dodgy since i had 1 case of it hanging on 'Please Wait' and had to close it in task manager, others pressing 'join now' didn't even get a response.

people are complaining its laggy... ITS A ******* BETA!!!!!!!! its not a fully playable demo...its for dice to get to get information from PC gamers so they can make there final release better...

Iv never expected much from beta games iv played. My expectations are for the real game. And im enjoying the beta so i expect the real game to be much better...
 
DICE announced they have released some fixes to the server code and they were stressing the servers for the first few hours after beta release.

maybe explain the lag we experienced. other than the lag i find it a very good game.
 
Played a couple of rounds this morning (I can actually connect to games now!), have to say its just battlefield really, which isnt a bad thing at all. Has pretty nice graphics and I quite liked the 'snow storm' effects, though had to drop down from DX10 because of crashes but thats normal on my rig. Seems a bit hectic but that may just be the map and its nothing really different from the rest of the battlefield series, hopefully hardcore mode will be a bit better.

Also noticed one of the medic unlocks mentions helping accuracy from the prone position, well done DICE take it out but still leave it in the text. Having prone in the game though would make snipers even bloody harder to see, bad enough trying to spot them through the weather while their crouching in their little suits (not to mention the accuracy of the non sniper/ recon guns even firing single shots is pretty poor at longer ranges so you're pretty much relying on counter snipers) so its maybe not to of a bad thing :p

Thank god someone else who has realized this, the game WILL get better, just takes time.

how do you change to DX9?

The BETA is quite good. iv played 20mins straight with no lag or disconnects. Occasional few graphics lag here and there but thats fine. If the beta is quite good for me, i cant imagine how good it will be when the real game comes out.
Some reason its making me want to buy MW2 to try it out and compare them. I havnt bought it so i cant really say MW2 sucks :( owell as hovis says best of both.

I've played MW2 with my mates, not just public but also official matches, the same guys I played the beta with last night, everyone agreed its a better game than MW2. The way the buildings blow up, the way the trees cut in half with gun fire, the way the squads work, the way it looks.

I know it sounds daft but its more of a full battle experience (which is what BF is famous for I know)

nice writeup. Ive not played mw2 and dont intend to.. Cod4 gun game on a dedi server f.t.w!

BF BC2 has exceded my expectaions so far, they just need to sort friends and server browser.
 
hi guys i was wondering if anyone can answer a few questions for me on this game.

i havent used my beta key yet......maybe this weekend.


but from what ive seen on hear and on the net it looks pretty much the same as bad company on the XBox360. apart from the maps have white on them.


can anyone tell me if it is the same or what differences there are?
