Belgian Grand Prix 2014, Spa-Francorchamps - Race 12/19

Alexander Rossi to race this weekend in place of Max Chilton, who is having contractual issues.

The Marussia F1 Team will provide Alexander Rossi with the opportunity to make his Grand Prix debut at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps.

Alexander will race alongside Jules Bianchi, substituting for Max Chilton while contractual issues are resolved.

Alexander joined the Team as Reserve Driver last month, the announcement coming at the Hungarian Grand Prix. He has taken part in a number of Friday morning Free Practice 1 sessions with his previous team but this weekend will see him ‘racing’ a Formula 1 car for the first time.

Edit - I may need some sleep as I looked above and saw no mention of this, now I look up and there's loads of posts.

This is what happens when money buys your seat, someone with more money can buy you out of it.

Maybe if the FIA had chosen proper teams to join in 2010 this wouldn't be an issue...

Yep, and why is it taking so long to fill the spaces on the grid, there's several decent teams who want in.

FIA just baffles me 98% of the time.

I'm not sure Rossi even brings a sponsor at this point (a coffee company with 2 stores doesn't count). General Electric was just a B2B deal courtesy of Tony Fernandes buying their equipment for his Air Asia Airbus fleet. "Marussia are currently in talks with several new investors and it is expected the situation will be resolved before the next race" is pretty vague, and of course Rossi was already a reserve driver.

To be fair the budget cap never materialised, and $100 million to run at the back of the grid is exorbitant. You could probably run a pair of Super Formula cars at the same pace for a fifth of that...

Rossi/Haas/Ferrari are all quite strongly linked, so I expect its linked to that.

Also sounds like Max's bank manager has called back and found an extra fiver down the back of the sofa. Its down to Pay-Per-Session now !
