Belgian Grand Prix 2015, Spa-Francorchamps - Race 11/19

Regarding McLaren Honda, it was said on the BBC during the qualifying programme yesterday (though it was EJ so pinch of (or shovel of) your favourite white grainy substance) that Honda wanted to start in 2016, but McLaren, under pressure given the Mercedes contract ending wanted it brought forward and so it's a rush job.

I foresee a dodgy start from the Mercs, followed by Hamilton being mugged in to Les Combes thanks to epic slipstreaming up Eau Rouge.

That was reported a lot earlier in the year. But I'm sure they had another year (this year) on their Mercedes contract.

Perhaps given that McLaren wanted to start from a clean sheet of paper (hence the reorganised technical departments and key signings in the aero team) they all thought it best to start the process this year and write it off, but I can't imagine either party thought it would be this bad, and I'm certain sure Button and Alonso didn't.

I doubt Alonso regrets leaving Ferrari, but I struggle to imagine he'd have signed for McLaren if he knew they'd be this bad. Ferrari aren't going to win the title this year and they need to change their car to make it far more consistent across conditions to have any chance in 2016, and who knows where Honda will be (or even what regulations we'll have) in 2017.
