£500 for 2, they're probably bengal cross kittens (e.g. half bengal, half tabby).

bengals can be very expensive, especially from reputable breeders.

Mine too. I'd probably have a longer life expectancy if I lived in a sterile compound and never went near cars or beer or ciggies or anything else detrimental to my health. Be ruddy miserable tho!

And though it doesnt change the point you're making iirc average life expectancy of an outdoor cat is actually 2/3 years. Our cats have lived to 7/14/10/1 and currently the three we have are nearly 2/7 and 8 :)

So *fingers crossed* we're not doing too bad, but we do live in a nice quiet area away from main roads etc, so that figure may be rather different otherwise!

Yeah - they seem to prefer being in pairs or trios (known one pair, a trio and a single cat).

As long as the cat(s) remain mentally stimulated and get plenty of exercise, I don't see an issue with them being indoor cats; certainly preferable to them being stolen, killed or murdered (I think we all know the hatred that some people have for cats...someone in my girlfriend's parents' village killed 12 local cats in 2 years before being caught :()...Plus I don't relish the prospect of losing £500 of cats at a young age ;)

Cats like to run around, and can run faster than a man. Just how big is your house, or do you plan to build a hamster wheel? A housecat cannot get the same level of exercise, interaction and stimulation the outdoors provides. ie our cat used to play with frogs, didn't eat them, just pawed them, if they got away pick them back up again and bring them back. Climbing trees, jumping from tree to fence, chasing after leaves, making cat friends/fighting etc etc. Also likes to hide, and when he sees me runs after me, bites my leg, I run after him, he runs away, hides again etc. :D

Personality wise there is a big difference from the 7 housecats a friend has to the 5 we've had. The housecats seem more anti social around new people, and lack any interest...just sit around and do nothing. They seem unhappy, especially during the summer, they meow to go out but the owners don't let them.

Squiffy your cat sounds like my George - we took the dog for a walk the other day and heard this racket on the field after about ten minutes. There's George - right in the middle of the field, yelling at me because he wanted his breakfast and we'd gone out before he came back in for it! :D Everyone on the field was laughing at him. He hates being stuck inside, he's always on a wall or in a garden somewhere, and as he's 1/2 siamese, he makes one hell of a noise when he wants too! :D

Penski, if you get these kitties we need lots and lots of piccies! :D

Talk to any `offical` body with regard to keeping cats and they`ll tell you that its actually preferable to keep cats perma indoors, providing >

1) You raise them from kitten stage `indoors`

2) Give them plenty of attention

3) Can stand the smell of a litter tray nestled in some dark corner of your house :)

After quite a short time they will cease to rush the door every time it`s opened and a little while later you can leave all your windows open and they`ll just sit on the window ledge looking out (like cats do).

Our cats actually all go out when they please but thankfully they spend most of their time inside. Its no so much about how streetwise your cat is, more how almost every street has its share of Saxo boy racers who insist on accelerating to maximum speed in as short a space as possible, even when they live like 50 feet from the junction they`re about to turn at.

ours too, I would say it is VERY cruel to keep a cat locked in a flat all the time, cats need to go outside and prowl run about socialise with other cats etc.

I certainly wouldn't call it cruel; that's quite offensive.

Rotty - the male has won a first and a second...He has beautiful markings - marbled. The female is spotted...quite dusky.

Certainly lovely cats for £250 each.

I dont quite agree with keeping cats inside, but as you are looking at pedigree cats I can understand, It's not like you would allow a dog to wonder the streets and espcially a pedigree.

I think that if someone realised that you had 2 cats worth 250 each someone will do the horrible thing and pinch them.

I know plenty of people who have house cats - and they seem just as happy and well adjusted as any outdoor cats I've met - if anything they're more affectionate.

Nothing cruel about it IMO.

Penski is right - it is perfectly OK to keep a cat indoors permenantly, so long as you give it a lot of attention and keep it amused. People are just so used to cats being allowed out and about the whole time that they believe it is cruel to keep them indoors.

No - they're purebreds.

I know - My ex's mum used to breed them (not personally though ;)) and last I heard she was charging from £400 with the sky being the limit (obviously based on patterning, size, bone structure et cetera...)

i dont think there's anything wrong in keeping them indoors at all - when I lived in Manchester City Centre, I had two cats in my flat that never went out, and weren't bothered at all. I had them from kitties and they never knew any different and never wanted to go out. I'd prefer to let them out and play like mine do now, but imo they can live perfectly happy lives as long as they are loved and sheltered and have each other and their 'humans' for company :)

I'm like a three year old around cats - I pester them and play with them constantly.

But unlike a three year old, as soon as they grow tired or show any signs that they're bored or have had enough playing around, I stop ;)

Our two kittens are housecats, they dont seem to mind at all... spend most of their time playing with each other around the house.

In the nice weather though, we take them to the park on their leads and harness, and let them have a good run around chasing squirrels and the like..
